  • figures and cats

i was cruisin around deviantart.com  and i found this painter, and i really like her.

i really like it when people paint what they like and stick to it and develop more and more into the subject matter. that is what i've liked so much about painting trees.  by painting 'the same thing' over and over again, i've gotten better at painting trees, of course, but it's also like a soft blanket....like, i can be sure of the trees, and all i have to figure out is the background, the message, the meaning, the colors.  it's both comfortable and freeing....

i've been working on one at the studio for a while now, and i have hopes of finishing it today. It gets pretty hot up there [i paint in abel's attic. its bigger than it sounds] so i haven't been up there very often or for very long. but the painting i've been working on is pretty neat.  it's painted after a poem. when i finish it i'll post the poem and the painting together.

so, art show, november 15, abel's house, featuring paintings by YOURS TRULY and a good friend of mine from Austin. We're both newer painters, and we're totally pumped. so everyone should come...november 15, abel's house, night time.  there will be some free snacks, live music, visual art, and a good time all around.

ps: in the words of my sister, "just because i think sara palin should stay home and raise her kids instead of running for office does not mean i'm anti-feminist."

can't wait till we meet linda.

    charlotte out.

  • 2 weeks left...!

well, things are going well. i'm actually kind of sad that i can't stay. I've started to build some good relationships with people in my bible studies, and kids, etc., so it's hard to trust them to others when i leave. But I know God's got it under control.

I painted last night, that was fun. Sadly, unlike holly, i do not currently have digicamera access, so i could not photograph it. it is not one of my better ones, honestly, but it's kind of interesting. it kinda looks like one of those pictures of the sun from Hubble, where there's a big nasty solar flare happening. I think i'll keep working on it.

so the plan: stop working here august 1, hang out in dfw for around a week, see holly, nathan, chris, steven, michelle some more since i don't have much time to do so while i'm working, then go home after that.

well that's all for now.  oh, and siegro means blind, soldo means deaf. period.

  • day....? week 2.

Things are going well. I'm exhausted. I went to my friend chris's house last night with steven and michelle, cooked dinner (!!) I miss cooking. we eat lots of canned food and old pizza here at M.A.  Basically, whatever gets donated is what we get to choose from.

lots of corned beef hash sitting around. why would you ever, ever, ever donate corned beef hash?

    don't.

um, moved into my own room. that is great.

i've decided to try to spend at least 1 hour a week or more with someone from the outside world. last night really recharged me. made me feel like i can make it. which i can. it is exhausting, but while I'm here, I have a job to do. so i'm stickin' with it, even with all the weird rules and restrictions.

hall, lunch would rock. sunday afternoons are the best time for me to come visit you or go out, whatever. any day lunch is good, just not saturday. lunch is from 12 to 1:30 ish, or more like 12:30 to 1:30. let me know.

i'm ready for a shower, and lots of rest. 4 more weeks.

  • day three

feelings: "whew."  happy. content. excited. tired.

I feel better about being here. for a while i was nervous. but now that i'm getting into the habits, it turns out this will be pretty cool.

  • first day

feelings: nervous, excited, worried, overwhelmed, doubtful, "did i make a mistake?"....

going well so far. sad news is i may not get to see the arlington people like i thought. lots of rules, we can't just leave it seems. permission must be obtained for all outings. weird.  not used to rules.

if you wanna hang out, let me know, and i can ask permission to have like sunday lunch out or omething. i have a car, that's good. and they'lre letting me bike to the mission every day. lots of the people i live with are very young, so that is different. And they are very i-only-listen-to-jesus-music people. we'll see.

    later!
