Or maybe it just is impractical. I have a mere 5 tests (2 cumulative), 3 papers (over 20 pages total) and 1 speech to make. So, time for studying doesn't quite fit in. Oh, did I mention the MCAT too?

Anyway, the way I figure, I can not study and get most of the test right; or I can study really hard for 6 hours and get an extra 4 right but confuse myself about something I already knew...

That's the theory. In practice, I still study hard starting the week before. Good thing it's not on my own strength and intellect alone that I make it through each semester!

Things that go bump in the night

Monsters, elephants, sisters....

So,two of my sisters swear that there was a loud explosion in their room that woke both of them up, and no one in the rest of the house heard it. The snow has all melted and Death has given up in utter defeat once again. We have no more need to fear - Christous Anestie, Alithous Anestie!

Well, that's what I was hoping to post this morning. Unfortunately, it's not entirely true. Winter still has us in it's grip. Actually, that completes the analogy even more perfectly since Christ's ressuretion was not an automatic fix to all ills. Now we have hope, though. No we are no longer of all men most wretched but of all men most to be envied.

Black Friday

In the depth of winter the days are at their shortest and death holds the world in its grasp. The Word was made flesh and was born. When things looked as bleak as possible, in the middle of darkness, the Incarnation brought hope and light.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

In the middle of Spring, life is triumphant. New things are growing, and out of the dead comes the living. Then, death rears his ugly head. Winter roars back to blight the earth. The Son of God is seized and dragged away by evil’s minions. He is condemned to die by his own handiwork. The ultimate rebellion is occurring once again: creature against Creator.

It’s the first week of April but the temperature is no longer 70 but 30. An inch of snow is falling. The sun is eclipsed by clouds but the Son has been raised up to give light to the whole world. Any minute now and the ground will begin to shake. Satan is making one last attempt to destroy the incarnation. Death tried to sieze the newborn, now it seems to triumph over the God-man.

It’s Black Friday and the King of Creation is crucified. Not terribly pleasant, not much percievable good, and a huge relief to have finished. Midterms are especially so. The biggest drawback, though, is getting done with a test.

Yesterday, I took my Biochem test and finished in 20 minutes (to my classmates disgust). Immediately and automatically, my brain shut down. I simply lost any motivation to sutdy. After all, spring break starts in just over 24 hours and not much happens before then, right?

Unfortunately, or fortunately... myabe it's just a fact. Anyway, the MCAT is still looming 2 months in the future (May 12). Maybe it's just as well, I have a lot of review to do still.

You know its snowed when...

Well, when the county snowplow gets bogged down in a 3 foot pile of sleet at the foot of your hill...

I was aroused at the ungodly hour of 7:00 and informed that Daddy needed to get to the hospital for a case. I wandered outside and returned to report a deep pile of snow at the foot of our hill.

Half an hour later, he admitted that I was right and the drift was in fact to deep to get through. Fortunately, it only took us that long to remove the car. We called the county engineers and they said someone would be along shortly. Sure enough, they came by with this result. Too much snow to push, to icy to back up the incline.

Fortunately, there was a farmer who pulled him out and helped clean up. The farmer also removed the 8 foot pile of snow in our driveway after the plow pushed through. While he was plowing our neighbor's driveway, they went out to ask him to stop at our house and move the 8 feet of snow. He was so leary of being thanked that when he saw them coming he left in order to avoid being payed and headed over to our house without being asked!

In addition to our driveway, certain doors and windows are currently immobilized...

I never did trust those groundhogs much. It started snowing yesterday afternoon and just kept going. Walking around our beautiful campus, it was amusing to watch the efforts of the maintainence crews. They would go down the sidewalk with their snowplow, turn around at the end and have to redo the whole path because it was already covered again...

This morning, all classes before 11:00 were cancelled (hey, 3 inches is a lot in Ohio).
