This is a must-see movie for everyone of Vietnamese heritage and anyone who's interested in Asian-American culture and history. It's won several independent film awards. I'll be skipping class to go watch it. Anyone else interested? Tickets are about $7, but it's definitely worth it since screenings are rare.

Inspired by actual events, Journey from the Fall follows one family's fight for freedom in the wake of war-torn Vietnam, communist political prison camps, and the mass exodus of boat people.

April 30th, 1975
Against his wife's wishes, Long Nguyen chooses to stay in Vietnam and fight for his beloved country. Knowing that his decision may separate him from his family forever, he asks his wife, Mai, to leave their homeland for safer shores. Together with her son and mother-in-law, Mai reluctantly boards a tiny fishing boat bound for America and they begin a perilous journey across the sea, with nothing but hope to keep them alive.

Meanwhile, as the city of Saigon falls under communist rule, Long is captured and imprisoned in a series of re-education camps. There, he endures solitary confinement and witnesses the death of his friends, spiraling him downwards into a deep despair. Believing his family is dead, Long's faith is revived when a mysterious visitor brings news of their survival in the new world. In one moment his fate becomes clear, and he sets in motion a dangerous plan to escape and join his family in freedom.

Journey from the Fall is dedicated to the millions of boat people and survivors of the communist re-education camps. This is their story.

articles like this make me question why I'm an Advertising major. our society is all about materialism and consumption. do i really want to promote that? consumerist societies like ours create such negative consequences to our environment.

i've been thinking for a while now that i wanna do something with my life after college that positively affects our world. something along the lines of helping others, whether it's little kids or people in a third-world country, or something that deals with helping the environment.
i'm not promising that i'll definitely do it, but i've given it serious thought. if anyone, especially those who have already graduated, has more information or knows where i can learn more about these topics, pass it my way. one organization i've been planning on researching more about is Greenpeace (there was another big organization but i can't seem to remember the name at the moment)

like i said, i've given it serious thought, but at the same time i'm worried about how i'll be able to support myself, a family, and my parents when they're old if i do choose to embark on an endeavor such as this. that's a major concern of mine. unlike a lot of people i've met, i've never had the ambition of being rich. i don't measure success in amount of dollars. however, money is necessary to fulfill certain needs in life.

who knows? maybe i'll end up a greedy, money-hungry, rich bastard who doesn't give a damn about anyone but himself one day. (or am i already one and this whole entry was to get everything to believe otherwise? well all except the rich part because i'm currently broke-phi-broke)
it could happen... we'll see where time takes me.

i learned an important lesson yesterday... the new cushion-bag seats at the FAC/UGL are a trap. they look nice and comfortable, tempting you to relax in their warm embrace. but once you're there, it's over. i KO'd for a bit too long. even my trusty cell phone alarm couldn't pull me out of my sweet slumber. i was late for class and decided there wasn't a point in going anymore. first class skipped this semester... damn.

since it's been a while since my last real update, let's see what i've been up to...

i don't have any classes before 2pm. sounds great doesn't it? i stay up late and sleep in everyday... not true. i recently got a job! it's a sweet one too. i'm working at the Harry Ransom Center (i'm sure a lot of you don't even know what that is) on campus as a marketing assistant. it's a fun job, plus it's on campus so i can just leave work and go to class easily. only down side is that with my schedule, i'm on campus everyday for AT LEAST 6 hours straight, with the exception of Friday.

right now, school isn't really that busy yet, but it's gonna be a bitch once everything kicks into high gear. the few waking hours that i do have free will be gone. but overall, i like where things are going. i'm pretty excited about the current projects i'm working on at work. school shouldn't be TOO bad.

there are probably other updates that i could talk about but it's kinda late and i have work in the morning. peace.

p.p.s. looking for someone to eat/ hang out with Tuesdays and Thursdays 5-6:30pm between my late classes. most of the time, it'll just be eating though haha. however, like i said on my facebook, cool people only; uglies need not apply. for those who don't know me that well and think that i'm always this superficial and shallow, please believe me when i say that i'm not usually like this... i normally discriminate against chubbies too. that is until i realized that some fat people can be attractive if they lost weight. however, there's very little hope for you beauty-deprived/ aesthetically-challenged types. and ugly chubbies might as well give up on life.

p.p.p.s. i sometimes write with sarcasm... sometimes i'm brutally honest... sometimes i mask my honesty as sarcasm... sometimes people confuse my sarcasm for honesty... sometimes there are deep truths hidden in my ramblings... sometimes i just ramble to confuse and waste people's time for shits and giggles... sometimes i ramble just to see what kind of ramblings i end up rambling about... sometimes i waste my own precious time making up new ramblings... sometimes i like to ramble on and make people read useless nonsense when the only pertinant information to be read lied in the first sentence... this isn't the first time... nor will it be the last. ramble ramble ramble... bitches.
