I was at a Game Stop store earlier today hunting for the all-elusive Wii. Not for myself, I've actually never played the thing, (or a PS3 or an Xbox/360,) but to resell on Ebay. Yeah, so sue me for artificially driving up demand... :) Anyway, this has been in my mind the whole day, it really disturbed me.

So just after I was told 'We have no Wiis' (couldn't help it!) a boy about 9 or so brought a game up to the counter to buy with his mom. The salesman looked at him and asked, "Are you going to show your mom the rating?" The lady didn't know anything about it so he told her it was rated M, "Mostly for extreme violence, drugs, some sexuality and Satanism." I was in shock but Mrs. Parent was like, "Hmmm, no, I'd never hear the end of it." (What does that mean?!) The kid was all protesting because his friends have it, but seriously?!! Lady, there are better reasons not to let your kid have that game and what kind of stuff is your son doing at Billy's place?! Maybe you should look into that.... Wow... our culture...

Long time, no post... I know... I think Facebook has transformed my blogging time into check what friends are posting time. Not necessarily bad but different.

In December of last year I blogged that I suspected the number of Britons naming their new babies after the Islamic Prophet Muhammad was topping the baby name charts. (http://www.xanga.com/PoliBlog/557758339/what-will-rock-your-world-continued.html)

I was going on chart rankings due to not being able to track down actual numbers so I couldn’t be sure. My call for investigative help was just answered by the Times Online of Briton which confirmed my suspicions.

Bottom line: “Muhammad is now second only to Jack as the most popular name for baby boys in Britain and is likely to rise to No 1 by next year, a study by The Times has found.” (http://timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article1890354.ece)

So as the next generation matures, the stereotypical Englishman will not be “Jack” or “Charles” but “Muhammad.” As I’ve said before, there is nothing inherently wrong with that, but….

-Almost a quarter of British Muslims say the 7/7 [subway] bombings can be justified because of the Government’s support for the war on terror, according to an opinion poll.

-2% of British Muslims would be proud if a family member decided to join al-Qaeda. Sixteen per cent would be “indifferent”

-A third of those [British Muslims] questioned said they would rather live under Sharia law in the UK than British law.

I’ve posted about the overall solution before. (http://www.xanga.com/PoliBlog/536073701/what-will-rock-your-world.html) Simply put, while combating militant Islamism we need to continue to encourage the majority of peaceful Muslims who do not want to link Islam and state through violence to suppress others under Sharia law. In the US we need to promote organizations like the American Islamic Forum for Democracy (http://www.aifdemocracy.org/) who are “At Home with American Liberty and Freedom.”

Only in this way can we see our Republic, and the freedom of the West endure.

How a British jihadi saw the light

Ed Hussain, once a proponent of radical Islam in London, tells how his time as a teacher in Saudi Arabia led him to turn against extremism

During our first two months in Jeddah, Faye and I relished our new and luxurious lifestyle: a shiny jeep, two swimming pools, domestic help, and a tax-free salary. The luxury of living in a modern city with a developed infrastructure cocooned me from the frightful reality of life in Saudi Arabia.

My goatee beard and good Arabic ensured that I could pass for an Arab.

But looking like a young Saudi was not enough: I had to act Saudi, be Saudi. And here I failed.

My first clash with Saudi culture came when, being driven around in a bulletproof jeep, I saw African women in black abayas tending to the rubbish bins outside restaurants, residences and other busy places.

“Why are there so many black cleaners on the streets?” I asked the driver. The driver laughed. “They’re not cleaners. They are scavengers; women who collect cardboard from all across Jeddah and then sell it. They also collect bottles, drink cans, bags.”

“You don’t find it objectionable that poor immigrant women work in such undignified and unhygienic conditions on the streets?”

“Believe me, there are worse jobs women can do.”

Though it grieves me to admit it, the driver was right. In Saudi Arabia women indeed did do worse jobs. Many of the African women lived in an area of Jeddah known as Karantina, a slum full of poverty, prostitution and disease.

A visit to Karantina, a perversion of the term “quarantine”, was one of the worst of my life. Thousands of people who had been living in Saudi Arabia for decades, but without passports, had been deemed “illegal” by the government and, quite literally, abandoned under a flyover.

A non-Saudi black student I had met at the British Council accompanied me. “Last week a woman gave birth here,” he said, pointing to a ramshackle cardboard shanty. Disturbed, I now realised that the materials I had seen those women carrying were not always for sale but for shelter.

I had never expected to see such naked poverty in Saudi Arabia.

At that moment it dawned on me that Britain, my home, had given refuge to thousands of black Africans from Somalia and Sudan: I had seen them in their droves in Whitechapel. They prayed, had their own mosques, were free and were given government housing.

Many Muslims enjoyed a better lifestyle in non-Muslim Britain than they did in Muslim Saudi Arabia. At that moment I longed to be home again.

All my talk of ummah seemed so juvenile now. It was only in the comfort of Britain that Islamists could come out with such radical utopian slogans as one government, one ever expanding country, for one Muslim nation. The racist reality of the Arab psyche would never accept black and white people as equal.

Standing in Karantina that day, I reminisced and marvelled over what I previously considered as wrong: mixed-race, mixed-religion marriages. The students to whom I described life in modern multi-ethnic Britain could not comprehend that such a world of freedom, away from “normal” Saudi racism, could exist.

Racism was an integral part of Saudi society. My students often used the word “nigger” to describe black people. Even dark-skinned Arabs were considered inferior to their lighter-skinned cousins. I was living in the world’s most avowedly Muslim country, yet I found it anything but. I was appalled by the imposition of Wahhabism in the public realm, something I had implicitly sought as an Islamist.

On Sheep, Wolves, and Sheepdogs -A MUST READ

This has finally put the right words to something that’s disturbed me for a long time: People who are presented with factual truth, a painful truth, as insensitive as it may be, and instead of acknowledging it at some level or trying to refute it with logic, they turn on the bearer of that truth and attack personally.

I’ve shortened it somewhat (as noted by “ … “) and have bolded portions as well for easier reading and comprehension. I’ll admit I haven’t researched some of the specifics mentioned but even if you disregard those, the theory remains.

This is a must read.

On Sheep, Wolves, and Sheepdogs

One Vietnam veteran, an old retired colonel, once said this to me:

"Most of the people in our society are sheep. They are kind, gentle, productive creatures who can only hurt one another by accident." This is true. Remember, the murder rate is six per 100,000 per year, and the aggravated assault rate is four per 1,000 per year. What this means is that the vast majority of Americans are not inclined to hurt one another. Some estimates say that two million Americans are victims of violent crimes every year, a tragic, staggering number, perhaps an all-time record rate of violent crime. But there are almost 300 million Americans, which means that the odds of being a victim of violent crime is considerably less than one in a hundred on any given year. Furthermore, since many violent crimes are committed by repeat offenders, the actual number of violent citizens is considerably less than two million.

I mean nothing negative by calling them sheep. To me it is like the pretty, blue robin's egg. Inside it is soft and gooey but someday it will grow into something wonderful. But the egg cannot survive without its hard blue shell. Police officers, soldiers, and other warriors are like that shell, and someday the civilization they protect will grow into something wonderful.? For now, though, they need warriors to protect them from the predators.

"Then there are the wolves," the old war veteran said, "and the wolves feed on the sheep without mercy." Do you believe there are wolves out there who will feed on the flock without mercy? You better believe it. There are evil men in this world and they are capable of evil deeds. The moment you forget that or pretend it is not so, you become a sheep. There is no safety in denial.

"Then there are sheepdogs," he went on, "and I'm a sheepdog. I live to protect the flock and confront the wolf."

If you have no capacity for violence then you are a healthy productive citizen, a sheep. If you have a capacity for violence and no empathy for your fellow citizens, then you have defined an aggressive sociopath, a wolf. But what if you have a capacity for violence, and a deep love for your fellow citizens? What do you have then? A sheepdog, a warrior, someone who is walking the hero's path. Someone who can walk into the heart of darkness, into the universal human phobia, and walk out unscathed

Let me expand on this old soldier's excellent model of the sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs. We know that the sheep live in denial, that is what makes them sheep. They do not want to believe that there is evil in the world. They can accept the fact that fires can happen, which is why they want fire extinguishers, fire sprinklers, fire alarms and fire exits throughout their kids' schools.

But many of them are outraged at the idea of putting an armed police officer in their kid's school. Our children are thousands of times more likely to be killed or seriously injured by school violence than fire, but the sheep's only response to the possibility of violence is denial. The idea of someone coming to kill or harm their child is just too hard, and so they chose the path of denial.

The sheep generally do not like the sheepdog. He looks a lot like the wolf. He has fangs and the capacity for violence. The difference, though, is that the sheepdog must not, can not and will not ever harm the sheep. Any sheep dog who intentionally harms the lowliest little lamb will be punished and removed. The world cannot work any other way, at least not in a representative democracy or a republic such as ours.

Still, the sheepdog disturbs the sheep. He is a constant reminder that there are wolves in the land. They would prefer that he didn't tell them where to go, or give them traffic tickets, or stand at the ready in our airports in camouflage fatigues holding an M-16. The sheep would much rather have the sheepdog cash in his fangs, spray paint himself white, and go, "Baa."

Until the wolf shows up. Then the entire flock tries desperately to hide behind one lonely sheepdog.

The students, the victims, at Columbine High School were big, tough high school students, and under ordinary circumstances they would not have had the time of day for a police officer. They were not bad kids; they just had nothing to say to a cop. When the school was under attack, however, and SWAT teams were clearing the rooms and hallways, the officers had to physically peel those clinging, sobbing kids off of them. This is how the little lambs feel about their sheepdog when the wolf is at the door.

Look at what happened after September 11, 2001 when the wolf pounded hard on the door. Remember how America, more than ever before, felt differently about their law enforcement officers and military personnel? Remember how many times you heard the word hero?

Here is how the sheep and the sheepdog think differently. The sheep pretend the wolf will never come, but the sheepdog lives for that day. After the attacks on September 11, 2001, most of the sheep, that is, most citizens in America said, "Thank God I wasn't on one of those planes." The sheepdogs, the warriors, said, "Dear God, I wish I could have been on one of those planes. Maybe I could have made a difference." When you are truly transformed into a warrior and have truly invested yourself into warriorhood, you want to be there. You want to be able to make a difference.

There is nothing morally superior about the sheepdog, the warrior, but he does have one real advantage. Only one. And that is that he is able to survive and thrive in an environment that destroys 98 percent of the population. There was research conducted a few years ago with individuals convicted of violent crimes. These cons were in prison for serious, predatory crimes of violence: assaults, murders and killing law enforcement officers. The vast majority said that they specifically targeted victims by body language: slumped walk, passive behavior and lack of awareness. They chose their victims like big cats do in Africa, when they select one out of the herd that is least able to protect itself.

Some people may be destined to be sheep and others might be genetically primed to be wolves or sheepdogs. But I believe that most people can choose which one they want to be, and I'm proud to say that more and more Americans are choosing to become sheepdogs.

Some individuals would be horrified if they knew [a] police officer was carrying a weapon in church. They might call him paranoid and would probably scorn him. Yet these same individuals would be enraged and would call for "heads to roll" if they found out that the airbags in their cars were defective, or that the fire extinguisher and fire sprinklers in their kids' school did not work. They can accept the fact that fires and traffic accidents can happen and that there must be safeguards against them.

Their only response to the wolf, though, is denial, and all too often their response to the sheepdog is scorn and disdain. But the sheepdog quietly asks himself, "Do you have and idea how hard it would be to live with yourself if your loved ones attacked and killed, and you had to stand there helplessly because you were unprepared for that day?"

It is denial that turns people into sheep. Sheep are psychologically destroyed by combat because their only defense is denial, which is counterproductive and destructive, resulting in fear, helplessness and horror when the wolf shows up.

Denial kills you twice. It kills you once, at your moment of truth when you are not physically prepared: you didn't bring your gun, you didn't train. Your only defense was wishful thinking. Hope is not a strategy. Denial kills you a second time because even if you do physically survive, you are psychologically shattered by your fear helplessness and horror at your moment of truth.

Gavin de Becker puts it like this in Fear Less, his superb post-9/11 book, which should be required reading for anyone trying to come to terms with our current world situation: "...denial can be seductive, but it has an insidious side effect. For all the peace of mind deniers think they get by saying it isn't so, the fall they take when faced with new violence is all the more unsettling."

Denial is a save-now-pay-later scheme, a contract written entirely in small print, for in the long run, the denying person knows the truth on some level.

This business of being a sheep or a sheep dog is not a yes-no dichotomy. It is not an all-or-nothing, either-or choice. It is a matter of degrees, a continuum. On one end is an abject, head-in-the-sand-sheep and on the other end is the ultimate warrior. Few people exist completely on one end or the other. Most of us live somewhere in between. Since 9-11 almost everyone in America took a step up that continuum, away from denial. The sheep took a few steps toward accepting and appreciating their warriors, and the warriors started taking their job more seriously. The degree to which you move up that continuum, away from sheephood and denial, is the degree to which you and your loved ones will survive, physically and psychologically at your moment of truth.

I would like to think I’m a sheep dog. Where do you place yourself?

WARNING: GRUESOME DETAILS OF A TRUE, REAL LIFE ACCIDENT!!!

DO NOT TELL THE DETAILS TO MY MOM! (She only knows it was a puncture wound.)

To celebrate my birthday I left work early at about 8:00 and went to Academy Outdoors to purchase a punching bag. I expected therapeutic results due to the, uh, things that have come up in my life lately.

I bought it and some gloves, headed home and filled up the base with water. Then before I started using it I had to move a wooden cabinet and some boxes. First I took a few things off the top of the narrow cabinet that I didn’t want to fall off. One such item was a ceramic mug that I had placed 5 long shaft screwdrivers handle side down in and filled with pennies. I set the mug and a few other things on the floor behind me.

I moved the cabinet then shifted my weight to my left foot as I stepped back, over top of my truck’s former bumper. I felt a sudden piercing pain and my foot felt heavier, like something was stuck to it. It also felt weird. I had never felt that way before.

I looked down and about two inches of a flathead screwdriver shaft was sticking out of the top, left side of my left foot. The handle was sticking out of the bottom of my foot. Ever pulled a handle really, really fast?

Then the blood started flowing. It dripped on my ankle weights I had hanging on my truck bumper, the floor and things on the floor. I grabbed a FairTax t-shirt and quickly wrapped it tightly around my foot and called some friends in the medical field.

I ended up calling them, my folks and then driving to Wal-Mart to get hydrogen peroxide to pour on my foot. Then I drove a couple ours to a friend’s house east of Houston where they have medical connections.

The bleeding only lasted about a minute and now Saturday morning it has a serious ache, but that’s it. I’m going in to get checked now and I’ll post what happens.

EDIT: Back from the hospital. The X-rays show the screwdriver only went through soft tissue. The thing they're most worried about is infection so I got a shot of anti-biotics and a perscription. Also a tetanus shot and crutches. Looks like volleyball is going to be pretty low key Sunday....

EDIT 2: Today, Thursday I can almost walk on it normally but jarring it or twisting my ankle to turn a corner is still out of the question. It doesn't really hurt anymore, it's just colder than my right foot.

This is a very important issue. Please read the opening as it will come together.

There were 3,732 boys named Mohammed or with one of seven other variants of the name in 2000. Last year there were 4,532, and this year 5,936, a rise of nearly two thirds on the Millennium year.” - http://www.thisislondon.co.uk

So this is what I’m trying to figure out: Britain’s official statistics for 2006 show that three spelling variations of The Prophet’s name made it into the top 100 baby names.

#22 MOHAMMED -- #44 MUHAMMAD -- #69 MOHAMMAD

All together there were seven different spellings of the name for a total of 5,936 babies named after The Prophet. The #1 name was “JACK” but I’m wondering if a combination of all The Prophet’s names, again 5,936, are MORE than English baby Jacks. However I haven’t been able to find the numbers. The only other ‘multiple spelling’ candidates on the list were:

#59 FINLAY -- #60 FINLEY

and

#10 CHARLIE -- #51 CHARLES

All told, probably not up to The Prophet’s impressive combined numbers if the entries were pretty close. (Which is what I gathered by the few number stats I saw.) By the way, what kind of bloke names their boy “ALFIE”, #16?!!

If anyone finds out how many kids were named Mohammed, Jack, etc, let me know. But this is the bottom line:

I’m fairly sure the different versions of Mohammed combined made it the #1 baby name in England and Wales. Nothing inherently wrong with that but…

What will it take to wake the nation up? My co-workers are more upset that I’m visually bringing up the Iranian nuclear threat with a Christmas ornament than the threat itself. And that threat is physically obvious, visible and in the news! The radical cultural shift barely gets covered!

Live and let live Islam is obviously not the problem. It is radical Islam. The ideology; the belief system that you can profile.

Thankfully, I think the US is in a much better position than Europe for reasons I’ve posted before, but one illustration is this:

But even if the US and US Muslims totally reject radical Islam (which will not happen) we will be faced with the reality of a European continent so overrun and neutralized by radical Islam that we’ll be pretty much alone in ‘the struggle of the ages.’ Australia will most likely still be alive and kicking, but say goodbye to the rest of the free world.

You think oil prices are a problem now? You think Israel is struggling to stay ‘unpushed’ into the sea and ‘unwiped’ from the map right now? You think global opinion is stacked against individual freedom now? You think the Cold War and hoping we weren’t going to get nuked was tough enough then?

"British intelligence and law enforcement officials have passed on a grim assessment to their U.S. counterparts, "It will be a miracle if there isn't a terror attack over the holidays in London," a senior American law enforcement official tells ABCNews.com.

Islam gets concessions; infidels get conquered - What they capture, they keep. When they lose, they complain to the U.N.

“IN THE DAYS before Pope Benedict XVI's visit last Thursday to the Hagia Sophia complex in Istanbul, Muslims and Turks expressed fear, apprehension and rage. "The risk," according to Turkey's independent newspaper Vatan, "is that Benedict will send Turkey's Muslims and much of the Islamic world into paroxysms of fury if there is any perception that the pope is trying to re-appropriate a Christian center that fell to Muslims." Apparently making the sign of the cross or any other gesture of Christian worship in Hagia Sophia constitutes such a sacrilege.

Built in the 6th century, Hagia Sophia — Greek for "Holy Wisdom" — was Christendom's greatest and most celebrated church. After parrying centuries of jihadi thrusts from Arabs, Constantinople — now Istanbul — was finally sacked by Turks in 1453, and Hagia Sophia's crosses were desecrated, its icons defaced. Along with thousands of other churches in the Byzantine Empire, it was immediately converted into a mosque, the tall minarets of Islam surrounding it in triumph. Nearly 500 years later, in 1935, as part of reformer Kemal Ataturk's drive to modernize Turkey, Hagia Sophia was secularized and transformed into a museum….

Herein lies the conundrum. When Islamists wage jihad — past, present and future — conquering and consolidating non-Muslim territories and centers in the name of Islam, never once considering to cede them back to their previous owners, they ultimately demonstrate that they live by the age-old adage "might makes right." That's fine; many people agree with this Hobbesian view.

MOGADISHU, Somalia - Residents of a southern Somalia town who do not pray five times a day will be beheaded, an Islamic courts official said Wednesday, adding the edict will be implemented in three days.

Wear the veil or else?

Say no to AP’s shoddy work

The AP is making up war crimes. But the resulting stink in the blogosphere has barely wrinkled a nose in the mainstream press. The ethics-obsessed Poynter Institute seems to be oblivious to it.

It has to do with the AP’s Iraqi stringers and an oft-quoted Iraqi police captain named Jamil Hussein. Problem is, the Iraqi police say Capt. Hussein does not exist. The Iraqi police and U.S. military say an incident described in an AP report - Iraqi soldiers standing by as people were burned alive in a mosque - didn’t happen. Another AP-reported incident, U.S. soldiers shooting 11 civilians, also never happened, the military says.

When the AP was forced to acknowledge this situation, it did so in a story about a new Interior Ministry policy regarding false reports. The AP buried the fact that its own false report prompted this new policy….

The AP stands by its reporting.. The AP has cast “Capt. Jamil Hussein” simply as someone not authorized to speak, and AP Executive Editor Kathleen Carroll has sniffed morally: “Good reporting relies on more than government-approved sources.”

The AP has another Iraqi stringer problem. Photographer Bilal Hussein is in U.S. custody, and the AP has been clamoring indignantly for his release. AP reports have buried the U.S. explanation that Hussein is being held without charge because - quite aside from producing photos that showed him to be overly intimate with terrorists in Fallujah - he was in an al-Qaeda bomb factory, with an al-Qaeda bombmaker, with traces of explosives on his person when he was arrested.

This is a story on what the media would call amost a civilian death. Often times they make no distinction between the good guys and those who are set upon making Iraq a home for the most despicable kind of terrorism. Here is the difference:

Anyway, his wife talked with mine last evening and sent this picture. Mindy related that this little girl's entire family was executed. They intended to execute her also and shot her in the head but they failed to kill her. She was cared for by John's hospital and healing up, but has been crying and moaning. The nurses said John is the only one she seems to calm down with, so John has spent the last four nights holding her while they both sleep in that chair. The girl is coming along with her healing. John comes home in early October. He is a real Star of the war and is representative of what America is trying to do."

Immigrants must pass an exam on Dutch language and culture before being allowed to move to the Netherlands. That does not apply to immigrants from US, Canada, Australia, Japan and other EU states.

Legal immigrants already there must take a Dutch language course at their own expense.

Immigrants guilty of any minor crime, such as shoplifting, during their first three years in the country can be deported.

People can bring in a husband or wife only once they are 24 years old, and do not depend on welfare benefits. The measures are aimed at curbing international arranged marriages.

26,000 illegal immigrants are being deported, some of whom have been in the country for ten years and have established families.

Clampdown on foreign imams working in mosques. They must show their appreciation of Dutch values.

Beheaded girls were Ramadan 'trophies'

Three Christian high school girls were beheaded as a Ramadan "trophy" by Indonesian militants who conceived the idea after a visit to Philippines jihadists, a court heard yesterday.

The girls' severed heads were dumped in plastic bags in their village in Indonesia's strife-torn Central Sulawesi province, along with a handwritten note threatening more such attacks.

The note read: "Wanted: 100 more Christian heads, teenaged or adult, male or female; blood shall be answered with blood, soul with soul, head with head."
