We Finally Made It!

Darla and I finally made to New Orleans. We have started classes. It is going to be a good semester of classes. I am taking greek exegsis of the book of Hebrews, philosophy of religion, apologetics, and Pastorial Leadership. I look forward to all of them. On top of that I have to come up with a Thesis topic and find a thesis advisor. Pray that I can figure that out.

On another note, I either sprained or broke my ankle yesterday. We haven't deceided if we should go to the hospital or doctor for it (that cost money). Anyway, I hope that it is not broken because I like to run. Have to run(not literally)!

Finally finished the Doctrine of God by Frame!

Well, I finally finished the Doctrine of God by Frame yesterday! It was alittle cumbersome at times, but overall I learned somethings and was reminded of somethings. He made some really good points on God's trancedence and immanence, His relation to time, the compatablity of Divine sovereignty and human freedom (author and character model), and utlimately refreshed me on the extraordinary God we worship. Although, Frame's emphasis on triads took some getting use to. I would recommend the book to anyone, but probably not without recommending he read The Doctrine of the Knowledge of God first. If one did not want to do all of that, he just released an Introduction to Systematic Theology, which appears to be fairly simple to read and understand. Anyway, picking back up today in a book a started a while back, its blowing my mind and hopefully will help me in my Apologetics course this fall!

On another note, I saw and talked yesterday to my professor I had this year named Miles Van Pelt. He has been one of the most influencial teachers in my life. He changed my whole paradigm of the Old Testament, helped to understand the meaning and point of the Hebrew Bible, and rekindled a fire in me for the biblical languages. All who know him know what I am talking about, for those of you who don't maybe you will in the future by his books. Thought I would just mention that because we need to recognize those in our lives who have made or are making a difference. God has place them in our lives providentially for a purpose. Anyway, beautiful morning to go run in my long overdue new running shoes!

No Move-In Date Yet!

For anyone who cares, Darla and I still do not have a move-in date for our apartment at NOBTS. I am sure that we are not the only ones in that boat, but school starts in less than three weeks, so it would be cool to know. Hopefully, we will find something out late Friday afternoon, or on Monday. I am betting on Monday. Other than that, we are looking forward to NO. We know that it will be hard at times, but that it will be a awesome as well. We have not seen the seminary campus, except one time in Oct, and only for about 4 hrs limited to our apartments. We do not know first hand what it is like down there, but have heard through the website and others that the seminary campus is literally an "oasis" in the middle of the community. I know that is the way it looks in the most recent pictures on the website. I pray that the Lord will use everyone of us coming back to refresh our brothers and sisters who have been down there since the waters receded, and to go and impact the city for the glory of God.

I hope that these quotes find and edify someone today. They are from a book called The Bruised Reed. The book is a wonderful little old book that will help anyone who is struggling with assurance of their salvation due to temptation, doubt, or tribulation. Check it out! Thank God for his grace and mercy, which is like new every morning! Lam.3:22-23 "The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."

"There is more mercy in Christ, than sin in us"

"It is better to go bruised to heaven than sound to hell"

"A holy despair in ourselves is the ground of true hope"

"the best men are severe to themselves, tender over others"

"A sharp reproof sometimes is a precious pearl and a sweet balm. The wounds of secure sinners will not be healed with sweet words."

The Brusied Reed by Richard Sibbes (1577-1635)
