Hi, I'm back. Don't go to Missouri, ever. And if you go there twice like I had to, you're probably crazy. And if you live there, I'm profoundly sorry. But at least those two stays there clinched a place for me in the Military Police Corps of the United States Army.

Nutty world, ain't it?

But crazy I am for different reasons. I'm addicted to the written word. Follows is the Christmas list I just gave my mother:

by Kurt Vonnegut:
    Cat's Cradle
    Slaughterhouse-Five
    Breakfast of Champions
Fates Worse than Death: An Autobiographical Collage
    God Bless You, Dr. Kevorkian
    A Man Without a Country

by H.L. Mencken:
    Newspaper Days, 1899-1906

by Hunter S. Thompson:
The Proud Highway: Saga of a Desperate Southern Gentleman 1955-1967
Fear and Loathing in America: The Brutal Odyssey of an Outlaw Journalist
The Mutineer: Rants, Ravings, and Missives from the Mountaintop 1977-2005
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
    The Rum Diary
    Screw-jack and Other Stories
Kingdom of Fear: Loathsome Secrets of a Star-Crossed Child in the Final Days of the American Century

by Tim O'Brien:
    The Things They Carried

by Sylvia Plath:
    The Bell Jar
    The Collected Poems

And a typewriter. I want a typewriter something awful. There are a few hanging around in the veritable junkyard that is my home. That's what I get for reading so much Sylvia Plath in recent days. She and Hunter S. Thompson, two creators of their fields (confessional poetry and gonzo journalism, respectively) did almost all their work on the typewriter. Who cares if it's a relic? I want one. Nevermind that both Plath and Thompson offed themselves.

The semi-isolation of coming back in the middle of the semester from AIT and having to miss said semester because of said AIT, and filling that void with '80s progressive rock and hair metal, is not helping much either. The sanity, I mean.

Early Friday Classes Could Cut College Drinking

Wed Jun 27, 7:02 PM ET

WEDNESDAY, June 27 (HealthDay News) -- Scheduling college classes before 10 a.m. on Fridays may reduce excessive student drinking on so-called "thirsty Thursdays," a U.S. study says.

As an American college student, I'm calling bullshit. Friday classes make absolutely no difference; people either cut them or go to them hungover.

Confirmed: they're mobilizing in March. I'm contracting with ROTC in November so I'll be sticking around here.

Sunday, June 24, 2007

My unit might deploy in March. Stay tuned.

The male and I went to see Knocked Up last night. I think it was just me, but the sex an hour or so later was the slightest bit awkward.
