Christmas season is upon us

Christmas is here and my favorite part has already happened.  Okay, my second favorite.  Those of you who know me well know what my first favorite part of Christmas is...the presents of course.
But Friday we went to the Singing Christmas Tree at the Keller Auditorium in Portland.  Yes the program is almost the same every year, but it is definitely an awesome event, with so many voices united in beautiful song!

And the spirit of God is so evident there.  I love that part!

This year we saw a Salvation Army Band playing outside the auditorium and I talked with one of the members for a while. It's kind of like seeing the history I am teaching standing live on the street.  Amazing!

Today several people stayed after church to help decorate.  That was so good as it has been just a few for the past few years.

I have spent much of the afternoon working at my compy, loading pictures for a Christmas project which I hope turns out.  If it does, I will be very pleased and it will be a fun thing to give.

Well, I am heading for bed soon.  Everyone is turning in early after a busy weekend of Sundays.
Gabrielle announced her missions trip today in church.  She did a fabbo job.  I guess she's really going!

Next Sunday we start making breakfast for the church people.  For all of Advent.  That should be fun.  I like cooking once I get into the swing of it.

Bye for now.

Peace, a good thing to think about

I am reading a book called To Pray and To Love, by Roberta Bondi.  She has a lot of good thoughts and I wanted o to post this one.  It's about peace, a good thing to think about as several people I know heading into the last weeks of the semester, a time when peace is at a premium.

"Peace is a deep disposition of the heart.  It is an ability to let go of the need to be right, an ability based on
the knowledge that our rightness or wrongness in any issue is totally irrelevant to God's love for us or for our
neighbor.  The peace that comes with claiming our self in God is the foundation of our ability to love others in
the most bplaces and everyday ways." (p. 95)

Chew on that one for a while.  Letting go of the need to be right.  I have made great strides in that arena, but still have a bit of a journey there.  What do you think drove me to always be the first one to run for encyclopedia during dinner time?

BTW I bought Dad and myself an early Christmas present, the Focus on the Family Radio Theatre presentation of Chronicles of Narnia.  We listened to the Horse and His Boy on the way to the beach and home.  It is fabulous! Quite fun.  I think we are going to listen to some more RIGHT NOW!

Okay, so  I have a new year's resolution...a  little early...that I  will look in on Xangaland more often and even contribute more than occasionally.  What better occasion to start than with a new haircut!
I hope it doesn't take me so long every day to just make it look artfully messed up!

Here I am on the couch complete
with natural backlighting and new
hairstyle.

This is my new hairstyle complete with highlights
which I haven't splurged on for over a year.
Just thought you all might want to see it.
I took a picture of the back, actually Gabrielle
took a picture of the back, but it looks a little
scary so we will try that again when I have had
more practice with the hairstyle.

Here I am on the couch complete with natural
backlighting on the new hairstyle.

Over to the right we have a fun picture
with Mom and Gabrielle a la Honor Academy--you know where everyone takes their own pictures.

Yesterday a friend called me and invited me to walk the Portland Marathon with her this October. I am so excited!!! I was already thinking about it, but didn't have anyone to walk with.

I have another friend who will train with me, but she is really a runner and is wanting to run the marathon. So now I have the best of both worlds: someone to train with on the long walks and someone to walk with on the Really Long Walk. God is so good!

I walked 5 miles this morning. It was so awesome. I haven't really had my quiet centering prayer time as I used to, but walking has been a centering time of a different sort. This morning my knee was feeling a little weird, not really hurting, just feeling weird, so I tried walking from my torso, not so much from the force generated by my legs. It really helped in the walking part and I began to be able to center on God's presence in me and how He is the wind at my back and my strength.

I love the music selections that Anna helped me organize on my MP3 player...some of them are in the wrong spots, but that's okay. I was really blessed by God of Wonders.

Well, I need to get started on my research paper for CMIN 530. It will be exciting to write and even more exciting when it is finished.

Xangaland is a fun place to be. Next thing you know, I will be experiementing with my backgrounds. Oh my!

"The nearness of God is my good."
