| They Paint The Picture-Perfect Masterpiece On The Insides Of Your EyelidsWell, I'm back from yet another DragonCon. Only a few things could have made it much better than it was. And to my great surprise my costumes, all three, went over extremely well. (Actually, oddly enough, I felt like I didn't get that much notice for my tenth Doctor. Or at least not near as much as I did at SDCC). My Gray Ghost costume from last year, which I had no intention of ever wearing again (mostly due to it's poor reception) got a lot of notice and it made me feel pretty damn good. About 15 minutes before I put it on I attached the cape in a different way with safety pins that I think made all the difference in the world. And my third costume, a simple "Satan" costume I had tossed together for a halloween party last year, was really fun and actually, shockingly, people wanted to take pictures of it. It was simple but effective and I kinda wish I had worn it longer than I did.
Made some new friends, as per usual, and had fun with some old ones. Met up with a lot of people from the Batman costuming forum I'm a part of "The Brotherhood of the Bat" some I already knew and some I didn't. That's what it's all about when you get right down to it. Cons are just for us nerds to mingle. You "cool kids" can keep your bars and beer kegs... we're going to dress up in costumes and take pictures then go back to the hotel room and get drunk. lol Besides, we have more fun than the norms anyday!
I think my favorite new people were Gary and Sam. Gary posts on BOTB and while he seemed like a nice enough guy I'd never really talked to him outside of the board. He, and his girlfriend Sam, ended up being amazingly awesome people. They happen to be from London and I got to talking to Gary about how much I want to go. And he said "You should come, stay with me. We'll have fun." And at first I thought it was a simple gesture, the kind of thing a person says but never really expects the other to take them up on. But, as the weekend went on, and the more we hung out, we just kept talking about the possibility. Telling me all the things he'd be willing to do for me, places he'd take me and so forth. He totally hooked me and I told him "That's it, I'm coming!" He must have asked me half a dozen times "So, you set a date yet?" lol
So....I think this Doctor may be traveling to London sometime in the near future. I first need to breath a bit after the crazy rush the last few months have been. I mean there was the Mad Caddies Album Release concert on July 10 in San Luis Obispo, then SDCC July 25 - July 29 in San Diego, came home to go straight to a Streetlight Manifesto, Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, Against All Authority concert on July 31 in Anaheim, a quick trip down south to see "My Girls" (plus Sean lol) followed by Warped Tour on August 22 in Fresno, a day trip to Berkeley and then finally Dragon*Con this past weekend in Atlanta. Damn, I've been busy. I never do anything, how did this happen? lol
Well, just about the only part of DC that sucked was my woeful lack of pictures. I did even worse than last year and only ended up with 100 pictures. :( I totally screwed up there. But, it was because I was in costume so much and when I'm in costume I'm usually being asked to be in pictures rather than being able to take my own. Plus, some costumes, like my Gray Ghost, makes it near impossible to take photos in. (Can't see out the damn goggles well enough and the gloves make it hard to take things out of my pocket much less push a button) Luckily I know quite a few people who got good pictures of the con in general and of me. I may wait to post my pictures till I collect theirs as well.
Oh, I take it back, there was one more thing that sucked about DC, and not just that it wasn't long enough. I got super drunk and stayed up way too late Friday night so I slept in during the parade on Saturday and missed the entire Doctor Who SDCC group. Way to screw that up Doctor. Can't ever be where you need to be. I saw some of the people from the group throughout the con but the pics I saw of the whole group looked awesome and I'm sad I missed it. Would have been great to have group pics from both SDCC and DC... oh well I guess. At least I have the GallifreyOne group to look forward to.
All in all, I had fun and I'm both glad and sad to be home. Because now it's back to work for the next 8 days straight... |
