This should piss you off!From the 11 September edition of the Army Times: STRANGERS BEAT UP GUARD SOLDIER A uniformed Washington Nation Guard Soldier was beaten Aug. 29 by strangers as he walked to a convenience store, the Pierce County sheriff's office said. "The indication is it's because he was a Soldier," sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said. "There are some specific questions (the attackers asked) that were military-related and what his involvement in the war was." The Soldier, 22, suffered minor injuries and did not receive medical treatment. Glad to be serving to keep your freedoms of seeking out Soldiers to abuse. Not one word of this was on the local news! This is the county that most of us from FT Lewis, Wa live. I called back and asked if anyone even heard about it back there and they were clueless. Lets change the situation and put it into a different perspective and see how people feel. A _______ (black,white, jewish, hispanic, war protestor, etc. you fill in the blanks) was beaten today out side of a convenience store. The man, 22, suffered minor injuries and did not seek medical treatment. Tell me the Media, Hillary Clinton, FBI, NAACP, and a bunch of other initials would not be up in arms. It would be on the National Headline News and investigated with vigor as a hate crime. 2 White dudes burn churches in Alabama that have all Black worshipers = hate crime and Nation News. 3 Muslim males beat up a Jewish man in NYC = hate crime and National News. 1 Soldier beat up by war protestors in liberal, war protesting, hippy-ville Seattle area = unfortunate event and no news coverage. WTF! When I return to Washington after this deployment I will wear my uniform proudly everywhere I go. If the same situation arises there will be a different outcome that will probably be make headline news. Soldier pulls firearm and shoots a group of people that accosted him outside convenience store. Soldier does have permit for the firearm but was arrested by police anyway because the group had the right to beat up the Soldier as per status quo. All of the victims were taken to the hospital for injuries. When asked the Soldier stated he was not trying to kill anyone just make them hurt really bad! If you feel that this should be investigated as a hate crime as badly as I do then forward this statement or refer everyone you know to this entry and maybe we can put some pressure on the Law Enforcement or Congress to pull their heads out of their asses and make something happen. Just like when the Army Recruiter had water bottles and such thrown at him and jeered at until he left the campus at a college in Seattle. The Dean of students took no disciplinary action against the students involved saying that it would violate their freedom of speech. When did tossing items at people become speech? This reminds me of the movies and news footage I have seen of Soldiers returning from Vietnam and the crap they had to put up with from the public. They were spit on, yelled at, harassed, beaten etc. because they were a target of people's political views. Support the Soldiers! |
