  • Vacations are awesome!

Well, I haven't been on xanga in a loooong time, and then all of a sudden I decided to check in and found out all kinds of interesting things going on in people's lives and saw many awesome pictures, so I decided to share some of my own.

We spent spring break traveling in Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina, and we were just awed by the beauty of God's creation. I realized just how long I've been in the Houston area when I realized that the white stuff I saw on the ground was not white pebbles or gravel or some strange colony of mushrooms, it was indeed snow! How cool!

We visited the Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield park, a nice lake house in Crossville where Nathan's grandparents live, we saw the most awesome treehouse, and enjoyed days of hiking in Great Smoky Mts. National Park. It was incredibly amazing and beautiful.

    So, here are some pics!

  • Happy Birthday to my favorite guys!!!!!

I have the not too common pleasure of having the two guys that I love most in the world share the same birthday, and today I get to wish them both happiness, blessings and unending joy.

This year, with mixed feelings, I say goodbye to a boy, and embrace a young man. Twelve is a significant age, and even though it is sad in a way, because I have very much enjoyed watching Andy travel through boyhood, I am also very excited to see what this new chapter in his life will bring.

Happy Birthday, Nate and Andy!!!! I love you tons and tons!

  • Cockroaches and instant answers to prayer....

Who would have thought those two things could belong in the same statement?

Many of my dear friends (if you are reading this you most likely are one of them) have heard me tell several of my roach stories, most of which are horrid, frightening and ludicrously funny. This one is different.

The other day, at the end of our family devotion time I had prayed for Nathan and asked God to give him oportunities to serve and to show love to others. We had barely said Amen when our phone rang - mind you, it was  6:30 am. It was our next door neighbor who has 3 little girls and whose husband had already left for work. She said that there was a large cockroach crawling on her wall, and though she was terribly embarrassed, was there anyone at our house who could help her?!?!????

Well my charming husband donned his armor and sword and rushed out to help. Ok, ok, he donned on his flip flops, grabbed the fly swatter and rushed out to help. My dear neighbor was ever so grateful, and I thanked her for being an answer to prayer. Or was it the roach? I am amazed at God's ability to take one of my greatest phobias and use it to answer a prayer request!

  • Dyeing Adventures

A while ago I had a  burst of inspiration to "renew" a pair of curtains that had seen a little too much sun with some Rit. The result was pleasing and I was thrilled to get almost new curtains with very little expense. So a few weeks later when my eyes got very tired of looking at some very boring tan couch covers, and my little heart desired some variety in my living room I reminded myself of that earlier success and very impulsively decided that the couch covers would look ever so much better if they were a chocolaty brown (I am really into brown right now). Despite some very wise words of caution (I refuse to say from whom), I launched into this very exciting project.

Well, it turned out to be a little more involved than I expected . How did that happen?!? Anyway, most of the cushion covers are a delicious chocolaty brown. The rest, well, they need another dye bath. I think the most unhappy is my poor washing machine, who never had any intention of becoming brown or any other color other than white. How much bleach is too much?

Thankfully my wiser half has been kindly quiet on the subject, and I hope to finish my project as soon as I can get back out to Walmart to get some more RIT! Maybe next time I should stick to moving furniture around.
