After my first basic makeup tutorial I was asked to make a basic smoky eye tutorial.I
am not a makeup artist or guru, but I do know that there is more than
one ways to achieve a look. This tutorial is EXTREMELY user friendly. I cut down the amounts of tools and colors used by professionals to the basic core counterparts. Basically what I am saying is that this is doable. Ok I will cut the chit chat. Let's get STARTED!
The Materials
LANCOME COLOR DESIGN Sensational Effects Eye Shadow Smooth Hold
The color I used was Designer (Metallic) 1) Eye Shadow Sponge applicators 2) Eye Shadow Brush (I grabbed a L'Oreal brush at the local Walgreens for this tutorial) 3) Eye liner ( I use Palladio Eyeliner) 4) Eye lash curler ( Shiseido) 5) Black Mascara ( L'Oreal Volumous) For nude lips I used 1) Concealer ( Mac studio fix pot) 2) Lipstick (Revlon Naturally Nude) I
applied the concealer on my lips to wash out my natural lip color
because it helped make the lipstick look more opaque and brought out
the color. Here is the video showing you how I created the Basic Smoky Eye look.
Remember, I used one eyeshadow color because I wanted my eyes to look very simple and elegant If you cannot watch the video, I made a step by step tutorial for you to read here.
Reminder, I took these photos with my flash on, so my eyeshadow appears lighter than in real life. Yes I am aware that my eyebrows need to be plucked...but hey...even I get lazy!
Start off with a fresh foundation/powdered face.
+ Now take the eyeshadow sponge applicator with the eyeshadow on it and OUTLINE
your eyelid. Find where the crease is and outline the crease. This ends
up being a guide to show you where to stop when you fill in your eyelid
with the eyeshadow. Now fill your eyelid with the eyeshadow color and avoid coloring over the outline you made. Stay within the eyelid area. Now here is how you create the smokey look. Take a CLEAN eyeshadow brush
and blend out the eyeshadow line you have made. Blend in by following
your natural eyeball socket. Make sure to emphasize the outer eyelid
area to create that sexy cat eye look. It should look like this where the outer corner of your eyes should appear more exaggerated. Now apply another layer of the same shade on the Lower part of your eyelid. This helps darken the smoky eye. Again, take the brush and blend blend blend. Now
take the eyeliner and line your entire eyes. Line as close as you can
to the lashline and inner rim of your eyes. If it looks sloppy, do not
worry because we are going to smudge it. Now take the eyeshadow sponge
applicator and smudge the eyeliner. Be sure to apply the eyeshadow on
the outer lower eyelid. Darken your eyebrows. Dark eyebrows helps your smoky eye look more dramatic. Take your eyelash curler and and curl your lashes, then apply the mascara on the top and lower lashes.
Now
you are finished. Sometimes you may have to eyeball your smoky eye to
see if it is even. You may have to fix your smoky eyes by blending or
adding more of the eyeshadow. This is not something you are supposed to
master on one try... believe me, even I have difficulties.
Later
on, you can add more colors and experiment. Highlight the area around the tear ducts of your eyes to brighten them. Remember, this tutorial was just to show you the basics, you do not have to use just one color like I did here. I encourage you to try new things and experiment.
Goodluck ladies and I hope my tutorial helped. I will cover the Egg mask next time.
After all this...I still prefer the simple and clean look =) Cheers ~ Michelle Phan Youtube made my video darker looking O_O
