Why have people recently lost the ability to think for themselves? It seems people have become too lazy to question anything they are told. This applies to almost all discussions: Religion, politics, diets, sex. Nobody ever says, "maybe they are wrong." Instead, it seems most people would much rather say, "Okay."
If people could only think for themselves, we would be much less of a destructive species. If we all thought differently and came up with our own conclusions, then naturally we would all realize that everybody has different opinions, so why fight?
One of the biggest concerns I have with this is organized religion. Instead of looking at research and coming up with their own conclusions when they get older, people just believe everything they are told as a child and get into fistfights over religion by the age of seven.
Personally, I believe that churches and such are in it for the money. They tell people what "God" wants them to do, and the poor, unsuspecting victims pay the church money. You would think that a "holy place" such as a church would not be overcome with the sin that is taking over the rest of the world: greed.
But, as mentioned before, "blind followers" are not only found in religion. In politics, it is becoming more of a problem then in recent years.
Take the Presidential Election of this year, 2008: John McCain and Barack Obama. Nobody ever wonders why everything McCain says is in agreement with the majority of Americans, but they pounce on Obama when he says something nobody likes.
I believe that McCain is saying all these "great" things and promises because he wants to win. If he says what most people want to hear, most people will vote for him. He is the worst kind of follower: he does not follow blindly; he knows what he is doing, and is doing it solely to win.
Obama, on the other hand, speaks his thoughts without caring who knows. People say, "He isn't American because he doesn't say the Pledge of Allegiance." No, that makes him an American. He is using his right to free speech to show that he won't support our country at a time that it needs serious reform. The people who say he isn't American are the real non-Americans, because obviously they don't believe in freedom of speech.
Onto the less-serious-but-still-annoying things that people follow, the first being diets. People in this country are so obsessed over how everybody looks at them that they will follow a Peanut Butter and Cockroach diet just to slim down. Don't you miss the good old days when people actually EXCERSISED to lose weight, instead of eating and making themselves fatter? You want to know why diets are a scam? Think about it: they tell you to eat more of a certain food, and when you get fatter, you need to slim down more, so you BUY MORE FOOD!!! They are purposely making you buy more and more.
Next is sex. Why does everybody feel the need to have sex? Why can't you wait to find the right person, and wait until you want a baby. Guess what? We have sperm and ovaries for a reason, but we also have fingers(some people are gonna laugh about that). Why risk pregnancy and screwing your life up when men have Susy Palmer and girls have Johnny Hilfinger? And before anybody mentions condoms and Birth Control, let me say something: Condoms break, and some women are immune to Birth Control. Not to mention, even when they do their job, both only do their FULL job 90% of the time.
Okay, i'm done ranting. If anybody actually made it to the end, you may comment. But remember that rude comments will de deleted. I already know some people are going to disagree with something or other, and you may, but remember that cursing and CAPS LOCK makes you seem much less mature and stupid.
