| Mid-March UpdateWell, I figured it's time to update again...mainly because it seems like a lot has happened since...well, whenever I last wrote.
1. Biggest and Baddest news first. In February, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had a lumpectomy in mid-Feb. She was scheduled to start radiation in mid-late March, however, after her first visit to her radio-oncologist (I think that's the right term), he determined she needed to have more surgery. SO, yesterday she went under the knife again. Thankfully she did well in both surgeries and has/is recovering nicely. She'll have to wait another month before she is able to start radiation. Thankfully, she isn't going to need chemo (at this point). If this surgery didn't take care of the cancer, I guess some different options will need to be discussed. Please keep her and my dad in your prayers. I hope that God really works in both of them through this situations...God is far more concerned w/ our hearts than our circumstances, so I know He wants to use this to do something in them.
2. Next biggest and FREAKIN' AWESOME news: I am officially running in the Chicago Marathon on October 12, 2008! HECK YES! Amber and I will be going w/ a group from Springfield that is running to raise money for World Vision, a Christian organization that works to feed poverty stricken children all over the world (but mainly in Africa, I believe). I will be putting up more about that once I have more information.
3. My job is going pretty well. I can't really say much...it's like working for the CIA. Seriously. I've signed a non-disclosure form. Pretty hard core. :) But I am getting to work on some really interesting projects, and I work with amazing people. One exciting thing that I can talk about is getting to go work at the Orange Conference in Atlanta in April. Woohoo! Louie Giglio (along w/ some of the other Passion guys) and Donald Miller will be speakers there. I plan on sneeking away to get to listen to them!
4. I joined the choir at church. Holy cow, I love it. :) If you're in the Springfield area on Easter, you should swing by James River Assembly at 8:30, 10:00, or 11:30. Shoot, even if you go to another church, you could probably fit in one of these times. :)
I think that's about it. Maybe I'll start updating more w/ the marathon training. It might be fun to look back and see how I was feeling through it all.

| This one's for you, NapoleonWell, I guess it's time for an update. This post is an attempt to breathe a little life into a dying Xanga world and to fulfill the requests of my loyal fan. (Yes, that's meant to be singular.)
My boss has encouraged me (along w/ everyone else in my dept.) to keep a "Love It, Loathe It" list to better shape my role at work, so in the spirit of the list, here is my Xanga version...
Love It: Working out, specifically Body Attack. It makes me feel hard core.
Loathe It: Body Step...that's asking for a broken ankle...and line dancing in a workout class? Ha. I'll take the treadmill, thanks.
Love It: The new American Gladiators...it's nothing short of inspiring. Hulk+Hellga+The Eliminator = Skull crushing bliss.
Loathe It: Celebrity Apprentice. Donald, your show's old. The only thing that could make it better would be to have American Gladiator Apprentice. Now, that's a show I'd watch!
Love It: Crunchy snacks. I think I need to go hit up the roasted nut stand in the mall.
Loathe It: Crunchy snacks. They're so darn addicting.
Love It: Good food...food network, Ocean Zen....it's like a beautiful art.
Loathe It: Giada. The focus should be on the food, not on you. 'nuf said.
Well, that's all I feel up to today...savor it because it will be a long time before I write again, I'm sure. :)

| THANKS-givingIn the spirit of Thanksgiving, I thought I'd share a list of things I'm thankful for in my life (in no particular order):
- My Family: While we might all be a bit dysfunctional at times, I love 'em. I'm thankful for my super-fun brother that I'm getting to hang out w/ more than ever (Meow!) and for my parents who always love me and who are great to be with and talk to in all sorts of circumstances.
- My Friends: You don't know what you have until you have to leave it behind...and after being away from S-field for 2 years, I am SUPER thankful to get to spend time with my friends...and I'm also thankful for the new friends I've made at work and at church this year...from car break-ins (mine getting broken into, not breaking into someone else's...) to the symphony to 5ks, the past 3.5 months have been a blast.
- My Job: I must admit, I was a bit nervous about going to work at Headquarters. But I am convinced that A) God has me there for a reason/purpose, B) That I work on the funnest floor in the building, C) That I have 2 of the best and most inspiring bosses at HQ, and D) I am learning A LOT.
- Jesus: Last but not least. I've been in this really new and honestly kinda awkward place w/ God lately. But I'm learning that just because it's weird doesn't mean it's not good. I feel like He's breaking down a lot of religious walls that have been built up over the past 7 years and teaching me new ways to experience Him. I'm also really being challenged in the area of community...why it's important...why it's so hard...and why I want to push it away sometimes. I must say, He's also done a wonderful job of lifting some life-long burdens from me in the last 5 mos. Way to go, Jesus!
So, there's my little list. I hope you all have a great t-giving and get to eat some amazing turkey! Gobble gobble!

| I have had people tell me and have heard people say that there isn't a need in Springfield for any more churches or outreaches as opposed to more "unchurched" cities. I can see why they would say that...I mean, there are a lot of good things going on here in Springfield, and there's a church on nearly every corner. But did you know that Greene County (the Co. Springfield is in) has the highest rate of domestic abuse in the state? It also has more meth labs than any other country in the nation. I guess our work here isn't done. Fortunately, we can still make a difference. Click here, get involved.

| Interesting things I saw today while running:
A guy walking his dog with a girl...and the guy was dressed like Captain Jack Sparrow.
A guy riding his bike....with a pizza box in the handle bars, and a dog on top of the pizza box.
A braid with beads laying on the trail...which made more sense after I saw the guy dressed up like Captain Jack.
People in shorts and t-shirts sweating profusely. Which is only weird because it is an October morning...where's the fall weather???
