25. A! - an alternative I've also heard is to hide in a cherry tree!

26. Oh goodness, I don't know! I'm guessing white? His hair was pretty dark.

27. Is this the now singer Bill Mumy, or a different guy? I have no idea what he did!

28. It's either A or D. I'll guess D, as I've never heard of PSM before.

Dear Amber:

25.  I'm amazed that those jokes are still remembered!  Yes, "A" was the answer.  My sister knew every one of them and inflicted them all on me back then!  I think she invented a few, herself!

Q:  Why is an alligator flat?

A.  They get caught under elephants jumping out of trees.

Q:  Why is a beaver's tail flat?

A:  They're a little quicker than alligators!

Juvenile stuff?  You bet!!

26.  Buster had dark brown hair.  It seems that the screen technicians discovered that the best way to emphasize tow-headedness on black and white film was to dye his hair... green!  I have a VCR tape of "Flash Gordon Conquers The Universe" (!), so I know it worked.  Just another rib-tickler from the annals of Hollyweird!

27.  Yes.  Bill Mumy now heads a R & B band.  He's also the father of Lilliana Mumy who appeared in "Cheaper By The Dozen" and the "Santa Clause" movies.  When he was a kid, however, he was the top child star of his time.  Look for him in several episodes of "The Twilight Zone", "Lost In Space" (naturally!) and a number of films.  He was noted for his movie role as the kid who became obsessed with Brigette Bardot.  He got to kiss her in the movie... thereby winning the jealous emnity of every man in the Western World!  Not bad for a grade schooler!!

28.  Pamela Sue Martin played Nancy Drew in the 1970's TV series.  Then, when her career faltered after the series, she tried to revive it by posing in some nude bondage shots for Playboy!  That was a different era, however.  It outraged the parents of her young followers from the series and killed her career deader than a doornail.  I could draw some modernday parallels to that... but I guess I've already done a lot of that!  But she wasn't the earliest one.  That was Bonita Granville, who starred in a series of B-movies based on the character in the late 1930s.  Emma Roberts is, of course, the latest Nancy.  God help us if Pam Anderson takes a stab at it!!

haha, my brother had many joke books growing up and told us most or all of them. Many old ones, too, he seemed to know them all! The most interesting time was when his best friend shared the first two dirty jokes I heard...which I still remember! But the kid, or at least clean, ones were the only ones my brother told.

Ah, the age-old story of someone doing playboy and/or posing nude after a faltering career. I remember that Elizabeth Berkley from Saved by the Bell did the same! And I don't see her in highlights now!

Goodness, I think I know too much useless information!

Dear Amber:

Elizabeth Berkeley went on from her child actor roles almost immediately into pornography.  She starred in Paul Verhoeven's "Showgirls" which, before it's final cut, as X-rated.  At least she waited until she was of age!  Despite that infamy and the fact that the film was one of the worst bombs in movie history, she still shows up here and there.  But she's stuck in the "adult actress" role forever.

Going the Playboy route sometimes works for washed-up performers.  Debbie Gibson, the former teen singer, did that and it revived her career.  So did Tiffany.  Self-degradation, it appears, is the key to success in the modern culture.  The only difference is (again) Tiffany and "the Gibster" were legal adults when they did it, pathetic though it is.  The legal age barrier, however, is crumbling.  Again, we come back to... guess who?

We DO tend to remember our first dirty jokes, don't we?!  All kids do.  That's why it's so important that we address a polluted culture where those once-whispered jokes are given form, substance and legitimacy everywhere they look.

Okay... I'm lecturing again!!

BTW:  Don't despise that "useless information".  No information is useless.  On a number of occasions, peripheral knowledge I'd happened upon in my researches proved valuable later on in tying seemingly random events together.  The Joy Purvis connection in "Hounddog" is an excellent example.
