  • ZzZzZzZz ... NOT.

    Arrgh.

For nearly a week now, I've been waking up super early (for me, anyway). This morning was the earliest so far, at @ 5:30 AM.  I'm not stressed, I'm certainly tired enough at night to drift off shortly and I'm not sleeping "too hard". I rarely drink anything with caffeine in it and certainly not within 16 hours of my bedtime. Not eating anything late either (getting old is so BORING from a nutritional point of view LOL.)

So why oh why is my body only allowing me one full cycle of sleep before I wake up? I don't know, but I don't like it.

I need a typewriter. That's right; I said a typewriter. And not just any typewriter either - I don't want an electric or even a word processor. I want a good old fashioned portable manual typewriter. Ink for the puter printer is almost as through the roof as gasoline. I find that more and more, I am writing letters; the regular number of them actually rivals my usual amount of emails. And all of my homesteading instincts are urging me toward self-sufficiency, much like Joseph after Pharaoh's "fat years - lean years" dream. I found several on eBay. Now I just need to scratch up the money to pay for one. You know how it is in today's economy: something more pressing always comes up.

Speaking of today's economy, wanna know what "they" say is the next big personal investment item for society as a whole? Nope, not gold or silver; no diamonds for us. Not bearer bonds or CDs or real estate.

It's food. Stockpiling freeze-drieds and canned goods.

    Isn't that scary?

  • Hi.

Please keep my son-in-law Mike (and the rest of our household) in your thoughts and prayers as he begins his first and (hopefully) only 12 week course of chemotherapy tomorrow morning. Thank you.

  • Bullet Blog.

It's been a while, eh? Time for one of these. I think negative forces are trying to distract me from taking care of myself. I sat back and took inventory today and realized:
    • It's been a few weeks since I've had my daily walk. (My bad.)
    • Need that to keep my blood pressure (and stress) to acceptable levels.
    • I've only been reading my study about Paul's missionary journeys sporadically instead of regularly.
    • Need that to be diligent in the study of the Word.
    • I haven't had much junk food this year, but after coming to DD1s to stay for a bit, I kinda went nutso on the puff corn, ate sandwich bread and even *gasp* drank soda for a while.
    • Very bad Alyx. That's dangerous for a diabetic.
    • On the other hand, I have been eating more fruit and salad.
    • I know... I know...
    • Yes, I'm here writing this at 4 AM, EST.
    • For the past few days, Dani's had some kind of stomach flu.
    • Whenever Dani is sick, her internal sleep clock is messed up.
    • Which means that Alyx' sleep clock gets messed up BIG TIME.
    • I fell asleep at 11 PM, but woke up at 1:30 AM and now I'm WIDE AWAKE.
    • I decided to spend the time on Xanga, which brought to my attention...
    • A former acquaintance of mine, who is known for twisting what others say and tearing them to pieces, waited two years to give her views on a subject I had blogged about and specifically pointed me out, "refuting" what she claimed I wrote, in a mocking and sarcastic manner.
EDIT: You know, when you're up at nearly 5 AM, things don't always come out as they should. I read this again hours later and my comments sounded unkind and a bit smug. No matter how much I don't like this woman's negativity, her condescending attitude and manipulative ways, she is a fellow Christ follower. Two wrongs never make a right, so I am editing what I originally wrote.
    • Anyway -- I know who I am and how God is moving in my life.
    • Even in the midst of this newest turmoil, I'm happy and at peace.
    • Moving on...
    • I am researching some things and Id like to ask your advice in the near future:
    • Something computer-y.
    • Something about working vs. going back to school (to get a better paying job).
    • Something about future living arrangements.
    • Something about the male/female things; old and new relationships.
    • Something about teenage daughters, gifts and legalities.
    • I'll keep you posted. LOL
    • Anyway...
    • I spent some time today, creating the 2008-09 home school schedule.
    • And budgeting so I can get Nila the curriculum she requested.
    • There was enough of a respite from the heat for me to bake. (YAY!)
    • I made creamed salmon with biscuits and peas for dinner. (YUM!)
    • Yesterday (Sat.) was Mike's 32nd birthday. We're hoping for 33. And 53. And 83.
    • I think I'm wound down enough to lie down now.
    • I will have just enough time for a full sleep cycle before Dani starts her (and my) day.
    • The breeze from the window brings with it alternate scents of honeysuckle and jasmine.
    • Very peaceful. Such a gift.
    • Sleep tight.

  • Now It Can Be Told.

Today I have received the "okay" from my daughter to write publicly about what has been going on here in the past month or so. She's been spending a lot of necessary time away from home, and I've been filling in for her in the meantime.

My SIL Mike has been sick for the past six months or so, but none of us knew what was going on -- it seemed like he was being bothered by a few ragtag ailments and oddities. He had been urged to go to the doctor for some time, but being a bit on the stubborn side, he refused, stating that he had a job to do and he is the type to ignore things until they go away.

In May, he was laid off of work (no relation to the sickness) and eventually he felt bad enough to go to the ER; they kept him for a day or two, told him he had anaemia and sent him home. DD1 has been filling him up with nourishing foods, vitamin supplements and Gatorade. They made an appointment to see a blood doctor, but he collapsed in the early morning hours the day of his appointment. It looked pretty bad at first, but he's been steadily making progress.

Mike's been going through a battery of tests in the hospital for the past two weeks and this morning the diagnosis came in: he has Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Lymphoma is a kind of cancer that originates in one of the types of white blood cells in the vertebrate immune system. Fortunately, if Hodgkin's is discovered in time, it has a high rate of cure. He starts his chemotherapy in a few days and we are all hoping and praying for his full recovery. In the meantime, things are a bit up in the air here, but we are managing with haShem's help.

Thank you, whoever takes the time to read this, thank you everyone who has been praying along with us and sending positive healing thoughts. We believe that God hears every single prayer.

    Shalom.

  • Giving My Tired Brain A Boost

My granddaughter received a Nintendo DS for her birthday early this year. Geek that I am, I never really bothered getting acquainted with it ... UNTIL my eldest and her hub brought these two gems home from Wally World:

    brain          brain2

Supposedly, the ideal "age" of your brain is at 20; after that, the ability to learn and retain begins to drop away. Since the brain is a muscle, the idea is to exercise it with the little games and quizzes designed to help your brain be more active. It actually is fun to keep up with the games every day and compete with my family and myself. It's been nearly two weeks and with daily training (and messing around with the sudoku), I score 39 on game #1 and 29 on game #2. Not bad for a 50 yo with a lot on her mind.

    Anybody else play?

  • Hi.

I just wanted to say, to those who are concerned, Thank You.

I think I'm just one of those people whose lot in life is struggle; but it seems that God has equipped me for this. If not anything else, I'm learning what is truly important and how to be happy no matter what the circumstances.

As I explained to some, I still have some of my family and great friends and my faith keeps me afloat. Most of the time, I feel like I'm in the center of a tornado and even though I'm watching all of the destruction swirling around me, I'm a core of peace. God is good.

  • For all those who keep the feasts:

    shalom

I am thankful to Adonai Y'shua for being our Passover lamb, paying the ransom for the sinners of the world and being the first fruits of the kingdom to come. May joy and peace be with you (from Sar Shalom - Prince of Peace) as you keep the eternal feasts of his death, burial and resurrection this week. (And sympathies to all of us who cannot eat leavening for seven days LoL)

    HAPPY PASSOVER!

    Love,

    Alyx and family.

  • Hi. We've been having problems with our wireless Internet connection and I haven't been online since the last time I posted. We're still doing okay; just trying to accumulate what furniture and things we need to get by.

If you could pray that we get the remainder of our things out of Alicia's without any problem, I'd appreciate it. We've been trying for weeks and she has been "unreachable" for various reasons. Now suddenly this week she had one of her sisters get ahold of us, acting like we left a pile of dog excrement in her dining room and would we PLEASE contact her to arrange the collection of it. *Shakes head* What a nice child.

I never said my life was dull.
