What are your thoughts?
Evil can be summed up as anything in opposition to or injurious to what is considered to be perfect, right, or good.
When you have the omnipotent, omni-present, omniscient God representing what is good then you assume evil is that which is opposed to his plan, his creation.
Starting with the accepted Christian creation story. A canvas that when God said, it appeared, and so it was, and so it was perfection. Man was created in the perfect image of God. His spirit being given many qualities of his creator, he is given dominion over God’s created Earth and all of its inhabitants. And Man was given free will, free will to love his God, his wife, and all of Creation. And so life in the Garden of Eden was perfection until the day that Man’s wife was approached by the serpent and convinced to do the exact thing that they had been forbidden.
In opposition to perfection, in eating this fruit the Man and his Wife became aware. Ignorance in bliss. Can you imagine not having time? I propose a theory here: Time, as we view it didn’t have to exist before sin. The Bible states that: “The wages of sin is death, but that the gift of God is eternal life.” So before sin, the implications are that no one had to die, time didn’t need to exist, since a life never had to be measured, theoretically it was infinite, as its Creator.
And so it began to snowball, the creatures that had been given free-will and realized it in all of its glory and then ugliness continued to make choices based on their own desires. And often times our desires are not holy.
Ultimately the person who makes the choice- is the person who is responsible.
“Guns don’t kill people, People kill people.”
Idiots with guns killing people.
Free will + idiot = disaster.
So we have sinned, gone apart from perfection so now we must be separated we must know pain and die. That’s pretty harsh, however its nothing done to us,it’s a choice that each person makes.
These rules, that define evil, the Thou-Shalt-Not’s are they there to heard mindless sheep? Possibly. To keep them from harm, its not a I don’t want you to enjoy your life, I just want you to be aware that these things will hurt you. Maybe not today, but they’ll destroy little pieces of you. And because I love you I want to see you whole. I don’t wish to see you choose to destroy yourself. Let me tell you, show you...
Pretty simple.
Now,judgment in the realm of Christian belief is the end result and feared. However I am going to propose that once again thanks to free will the only thing you have to fear is yourself.
Sure you have professed faith, and been saved. But, what does your soul read? Ultimately it will come down to whether on not you have truly accepted Grace. The concept of Grace is a fulfillment of Old Testament law. A sacrifice was demanded to atone for human transgression. Christian’s hold that on a Friday afternoon, on a hill known as the place of the skull that a different type of sacrifice was made. Not lambs, or doves, But a man who had walked among them, shared bread and fish with them, a man who had somehow healed their sick, and gone about the countryside performing great works in the name of God.
Their God, who had, in his son, become flesh then experienced the full weight of death, they hold firmly that this frail body released an innocent soul to a consequence he never merited, bearing the weight of all sin so that his sacrificial blood could forever atone for the transgressions of mankind.
Judgment too is simple.
Did you accept the gift of Grace to cover the transgressions of your gift of free will? Or Did you not?
And I don’t mean lip service. It doesn’t matter that the pew has a permanent indentation from where you have sat for the past 30 years. “You will know them by their fruits”
The fruits of the spirit are “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control”
If you love, you know God for God is love.
If you have accepted the fact that Grace is a gift, nothing you can buy, nothing you can earn and embrace this gift with thankfulness and joy this gift will grow inside you, these fruits will grow inside you through no merit of your own but through the miraculous gift of Grace.
