| Short Rec Week ReflectionWhen did "realism" come to mean half-heartedly negative idealism?
Here's a dose of reality for you:

| STIMFor those of you who I've given letters to: Please send me the commitment cards ASAP! You mail those by themselves to me like a postcard- the business reply envelopes are for checks and go to Intervarsity's national office.
For those who I haven't been able to get in touch with:
I'm currently participating in Intervarsity Christian Fellowship's Student Training in Missions (STIM) program in preparation for going on the Kolkata Global Urban Trek this summer. For six weeks, I will join a team of about 25 students (12 from Texas) in Kolkata to minister to the needy, homeless, exploited, sick and dying. While there, we will partner with local ministries and organizations to learn from them, serve them, and serve with them.
Kolkata, India (formerly known as Calcutta) is one of the poorest cities in the world; in fact, Operation World states that Kolkata has the lowest urban standard of living in the world. It is in this city that the Sisters of Charity (the order Mother Teresa was part of) have served the poor and dying for years. Millions of human beings, images of Christ like you and I, live without homes, proper health care, nutrition, or economic mobility. These are the people I will meet face-to-face this summer and learn to love as God loves. I'm REALLY excited about this opportunity, and a little scared. My entire world is going to get shaken up and broken this summer, I'm sure.
I know I've already asked many of you for support, but for those who I haven't gotten in touch with yet who are reading this, if you would like to partner with me in God's work this summer, I would LOVE to talk to you about the details as I learn them. I am responsible for raising $4,772 for this summer, and as many prayer partners as possible! If you would like to support me financially and/or by prayer, or if you have any questions about the support process, please email me at shengo@gmail.com with your home address and contact info so I can send you a letter with all the necessary information. If you have any questions about STIM or the Kolkata project, feel free to email me as well. I'd be more than happy to hear from y'all!
Wish I had fancy pictures and stuff to show off the awesome people on the Kolkata team, but you'll just have to imagine them for now. |
