We ask that members do not delete the comments of other members.  We have established an email account for the Board.  We ask that, if you have a comment on your site that seems inappropriate to you, you copy the comment into an email and send it to us.  We will attempt to assist you in resolving the situation.  The Board email is Soc_Board@hotmail.com.  We will make every effort to help you resolve the problem quickly.

Please remember that the main purpose of Socrates Cafe is questions rather than answers and that we need to be open and listen to others' opinions so that we can better review our own.  Listening to others helps us think more deeply and can strengthen our own views.  It can also help us to understand each other better.

Prospective members, please read the FAQ and be sure that you agree with it. Leave a message saying that you have done that, please. To join, you need to click on the Socrates Cafe Blogring link in the custom module at the left of this site. Then click on "Join this blogring." There is a form to fill out that lets me know that you want to be a member. I try to check regularly for new applications, but leaving me a message in the comments under the current post on this site may help me find your application faster.

The vote was tight.  It was also not definitive.  We had a 3 way tie for second place.  I eliminated the second choice of the people who gave 2 choices, but that still left a tie for second place.  I have arbitrarily chosen one of the topics, and I will put the other one up next week.  We will select one new topic next week to go with it.

With that said, the topics for this week's discussion are:

Can you separate religion from science? or Are religion and science separate?  Can or should they be? hosted by tychecat and BlackSockCerulean. This questions was re-worded when the vote was taken. Because that changes meaning a little, please write on the version of the question that is meaningful to you.

We are giving eddiefromhb a bit of a break this week because he has a busy week coming up, but he will help as he can with linking and site visits.

Enjoy the discussion!

Thanks for the break.  I will probably still visit sites and ask questions, but just because that's the whole point of the Cafe.  It relieves some of the stress not to be labeled host and feel like I need to stay on top of it every day.

Meanwhile, I made an effort on anarchy and democracy.

yes, I have read the FAQ and agree.

I'm just going through a transition period where I'm trying to unravel mental blocks, as of now.

Slightly off-topic - did everyone see France named a bridge after our own Simone de Beauvoir? Well, not our Simone, but the Simone.

I addressed the science versus religion issue arguing a seperation continuum involving science, spirituality, art and philosophy and conclude that science and spirituality can artificially be seperated to understand how they are integrated.
