I'm Alive...Who Cares?

hi, xanga land!!

So. Isn't amazing how people enter and exit your life in such amazing ways? Mind boggling! Yes. I just said mind boggling. It sounds so cliche to mention that everything happens for a reason, but those stupid cliches are actually true.

I went to Monterey/Carmel this weekend with my especial friend. It was bbbbeeeeeauuutiful! I had a great time.

In other news...I'm a social worker for big, bad CPS and oh the great things I have seen. I was going to quit and work for the Social Security Administration, but at the last minute...I changed my mind! It just didn't feel right. At this point, I like my job, I'm content, and have come to realize that I need to be thankful that I have a job!

I WANT TO MOVE TO THE BAY AREA!!! RIGHT NOW! TODAY!!! TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

shopping success

So the shopping trip was a success. Scored big @ DSW! 6 pairs of shoes for $60…yea! I’m trying to revamp my closet. I’m getting rid of tons of stuff and already dumped several loads @ Goodwill, sold some to Plato’s Closet, but I’m still left with a ton of stuff! Doesn’t help that I went shopping in SF, Pleasanton, San Jose, etc. My mom was upset with me, because she’s telling me that I don’t NEED the stuff. She’s exactly right. But there is no way that I’m going to pass up shoes for $8/pair. Ok? No way. A skirt for $3…6 skirts for $36? No. I’m sorry. Maybe I should run all my purchases through a filter: “DO I REALLY NEED THIS?”…but I can’t in good conscience let a bargain get away. The sales were so good that Christina and I decided that we weren’t going to buy anything over $15! She held up some really cute shoes and I asked her how much…she said “$25.99. Under any circumstances that would be fantastic…but I said…NOPE! We can find something better! And we did. 80% off the ticketed price…J I constantly had my phone out subtracting discounts and I’m sure I looked like an idiot. I did have one splurge though. L I bought a pair of boots that were well over the $15 rule, but I had my Macy’s $25 coupon…and while they were regularly $195 and marked down to 50% off and I had my $25 coupon…it didn’t turn out too bad at all. Basically, I’m all shopped out and don’t want to enter another Macy’s, DSW, H&M, Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, Urban Outfitters, outlet mall, strip mall, 9 floor mall, or anything with clothing/accessories/shoes for at least…ohhh a week. I kid.

New year! Not sure about calling my list resolutions, but more like goals. One goal is to buy a house by the time I’m 25. I’m on the verge of 23 and I’ve got two years! Is that possible? I do want to maximize my savings. Another one of my personal goals is to be less critical. Not sure when I became so critical…or have I always been? I’m not sure if the correct terminology is critical or pessimistic, but at any rate less of it will be helpful. I have a few other things to accomplish, but the way I see it changing my mindset is the way to go. Sure it looks good typed up and printed out, but to achieve these goals I’ve gotta be proactive!

So xanga is pretty boring. Someone else had posted that they are looking for another blog site. I’ve started the search, too, but haven’t really found one that I like. I used to blog all the time…sometimes 3 times a day…but as the years progressed I got a life. Still, blogging is a good outlet and a cool way to interact with people…I’m just not sure if I want to be on xanga. But even if I did switch blogs what would make it more amusing than xanga?? Hm.

I’m not quite sure what to do with myself…I don’t start work till Monday. I’ve had nearly two weeks of rest and relaxation and it was quite nice! Now I’m getting antsy. My family keeps telling me to quit talking about grad school, work, and just be content with my little vacay. I shall try!

Alrighty. Happy New Year!

Christmas Time is here

The shopping is over! I’m thoroughly satisfied with my purchases. Yes, as long as it’s from the heart…and it’s the thought that counts…blah and more blah.

As a child Christmas seem to take forever. Birthdays took forever. Summer vacation took forever. Now I’m on the verge of 23 and wistfully wondering how 2008 is literally NEXT week. CRAZY!

It’s been freezing cold here. Well, no snow and I thank God for that. Snow looks nice, but I’d rather not have to deal with shoveling it. Plus, it looks so disgusting after it’s all over. So bring on the fog and keep your snow.

I’m still wondering why my registration fees on my vehicle increased. Aren’t the fees supposed to decrease as time progresses? My registration deadline is January 12th, but I got that mess out the way and went in to the DMV today. It was dead. One other person was in there. I paid my $124 and looked at the registration and noticed that it said GMAC was the lienholder. Wait a minute. My mom paid my car off and we have no lienholder. I didn’t have time to worry about it today, but that conversation will have to take place sometime next week. Good ol’ GMAC.

My last day of work was Friday. I was a little scared to put in my two weeks notice, but I finally did. Oh…I have a new job that starts January 7th. New year, new career. Yeaaaa! This will allow me to figure out if social services is the right thing for me. I can’t figure out if I want to get a Masters in Social Work or a Masters in Public Administration. USC has a dual MSW/MPA program that I would love to get into. I have the grades/GPA/scholarship etc, but I don’t know if I have the frame of mind for the So Cal way of life. I’ve been pressured into applying to USC, but I’m still applying to CSUB’s MSW and MPA program. The beauty about the dual program at USC is that I could get two separate Master’s in two years. Excellent. Whereas, if I stayed here I could design my own course work with the Master’s of Interdisciplinary Studies, but I wouldn’t have an MSW or MPA. I don’t like that too much. At any rate, the deadlines for priority entrance are Feb 1. I’ll be spending next week collecting my letters of recommendation and compiling my personal statements. BLAH.

Speaking of school…that fabulous piece of cardstock came in the mail.

diploma

I had this gnawing feeling that I’d get a call from admissions/records telling me to come back to finish a few courses. But nope! Last week my diploma came and I jumped up and down. J Yeaaa

Ooooo on Wednesday Christina and I will be fighting mobs of people at Macy’s in Union Square. I’ve decided to drive up to Tracy on Christmas afternoon (my mom/sis aren’t too pleased). Then on Wednesday morning Christy and I will wake up at 5am and drive to the BART station, catch the 6:14 BART and end up on Powell St. amongst crazy people. I’ve got a portfolio of Macy’s coupons, Nordstrom this, H+M that…and crazy as it may seem….I can’t wait! I just hope we can last in the freezing bay area!

I bought so many toys for my Sunday School bus kids and I was sooo excited! I can’t believe how these girls LOVE those ugly BRATZ dolls!! They are hideous! I found myself wanting to keep the Game of Life, Simon Says, and the Baby Sitters Club books that I bought. The toys they have for boys are scary…everything has wings, fangs, swords, and demonic plastic faces! L

I’ve rambled enough. Have a great Christmas!

Ps. Here's the pic we used for our Christmas card. Sister Mother Me! It's blurry, because the picture folks have it copyrighted!! But I scanned it anyway!

It's Over

Soooo thankful that CSUB has two graduations! Spring and Winter. Imagine if I would have had to wait until June....!!!

Finally! Chandra D. graduated with high honors, appa kappa delta sociology honor society, four year honors, blah and blah. Wow. I think I'm just a little bit proud.

Master's program bound! Wooooo!

Ps. Know what I realized after I took 6 million grad pix? I am SO not photogenic!!!
