    Welcome to the Working Week

Back in Bangor for the time being listening to DeVotchKa in my room...BUT...my iTunes is on shuffle...so don't be surprised if you come to the end of this entry and think to yourself, "Joe, you old trick-turning prostitute, you're not listening to DeVotchKa at all!"

I'm back in town for a day or two 1) for Father's Day, 2) to have some work done to my car and 3) to hopefully see some friendly faces while I'm in town, because I don't know how much more time I'll be spending up here.  I just had an interview for getting a few hours in at a really nice, little cafe (now I'm listening to Earth, Wind and Fire!) to fill up the hours not dedicated to Blockbuster.  And while things still aren't ideal and I've come across some brand new uncouth obstacles things are definitely better than they were.  Mostly financially.  That's solved.  And I'm gonna put some ugliness with Johnny Law behind me in a matter of days.  So...that being said, the weather is getting warmer, construction is finished on Essex St. bridge, the docks are out at the lake, Kyle's still at Bonnaroo as far as I know and my favorite Johnny Cash song just came onto the shuffle, which has actually been doing a good job of sifting through the not-so-good and finding some delicious jams.

I can't stop listening to Bob Dylan.  And for someone who has denounced Bob Dylan for 20 years...it's strange to folk out to it almost exclusively.  Folk me and folk my musical prejudice.  Folk it.

I should also mention that seeing so many people in my living room again last week truly made my summer.  Thanks to everybody who made it out (AND NOW BLACKSTAR IS PLAYING!  SHUFFLE!  KEEP IT UP!) and to those absent, you were quite missed.  BUT...we have another shot at it!  Hopefully the turnout at Bryan's camp is just as good and with any luck I'll be able to host a hoot-a-nanny (Dinosaur Jr now!  I'm gonna split a sundae and watch Cinemax with my iTunes all night!) at my place in Auburn, which would be a perfect spot to host something in the radical-level.

Billy Bragg now.  iTunes.  Come over here and hug Papa's neck!

    A last resort kinda rant...

    *THIS IS A SELF-INDULGENT, "GET-IT-OFF-YOUR-CHEST" KINDA RANT*

*IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BYPASS SAID RANT SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM*

I must have started to write close to fifteen new entries in the last two weeks or so.  I haven't been able to go through with them, quite honestly, because there's been no real good news recently and I didn't want to seem like a big grump.

I'm giving in, though.  Because I can't for the life of me think of anything else to do down here.

I've been here in Auburn for about three weeks now and I've never felt so tossed around, manipulated and pressured all while at the same time never feeling so dull and lonely.  I've been playing a vicious little game of cat and mouse with employment since I got here after moving out of the dorms.  I've worked for Androscoggin Title Company for a day before they let me go and I got a good four days out of Maine People's Alliance in Portland before they gave me the axe.  I just wasn't cut out for the positions...I wasn't doing blow off the manager's desk chair or anything.  Right now I'm waiting to hear back from Blockbuster (which I think I'd be more suited for anyway) after an interview I had on Monday.  They have to run a background check which is all well and good and should, by all means, turn out quite well.

Needless to say, I'm completely, 100% out of money.

Please, God...lettith me don the blue polo shirt.

Oh!  And who the hell came up with the idea for khaki pants as the standard for suitable office attire?!  Do they look good on anybody?  Raise hands!  Go ahead!

While I'm ranting I guess I'll mention that I fell victim to the old "maybe a long distance relationship'll work out" cliche again.  It doesn't.  I need to remember that.  And it's not as if I can say..."forget about it...go out on the town and hang out with some friends" when I don't know a single person in Auburn aside from some aunts and an uncle.

    I'm feeling incredibly unmotivated.

The people aren't very friendly around here.

    I miss home.

I'm sitting here in my little embassy of a space in my quad here in Gorham, ME.

    Just sitting.

    I'm not even thinking.

I have no reason to be writing.  No thoughts or feelings to express.  Just letting the e-voice be heard while I hang out and listen to the new Paste sampler cd.  Which, might I add, is stupendous, so far.  I just heard a great song called "Buildings & Mountains" by a band called Republic Tigers.  Never heard of 'em.  It could be that I've fallen behind.  It's getting to the point where I'm starting to realize maybe I just won't be able to keep up with music and things like I used to.  It's been forever since I've been to the movies too.  Come to think of it.  I've mostly just been versing myself in things I should have seen or listened to by now but haven't yet.  I've been renting old movies that everyone's seen but me and listening to music that's been tried and true from generation to generation.

So, I guess I've just been trying to catch up on the world lately.  I'll catch up on the here and now in a couple years.

I haven't been to a show in forever, but I don't really mind.  I've just been way too busy with either "City of Angels" or the upcoming, dreaded "Bald Soprano" in recent months.

What I really wish I could do is get to Boston to see some of you guys.  Alas, my wallet only reaches so far.  About 7 inches, to be literal.

Listening to a song by Cloud Cult now.  Cool name.

My Tintin calendar tells me that it is now April.  The second of April, in fact.  Which is good, because it felt like springtime outside today.

I am fond of things, lately.

Not geology class.  I don't like that.

    My heart is an autoclave...

...Goddammit, the new Mountain Goats album is good!  John Darnielle's voice is this great exhibit of how honest a singer/songwriter can still carry himself.  At times the songs can sound like each melancholic anthem that came before it but they all still make me so happy.

It's started snowing and whispers about a day off have reached me and I never seem to plan accordingly.  When I ignore my homework we always seem to end up having school.  When I work diligently the night before we end up with a day off.  I can't win.  And it was just getting warm too.

So, I've written my first ten minute play and submitted it to a festival and now we play the waiting game to find out if it gets picked.  If it does then I hand the script off to a student director and I find out how it actually looks and sounds.  I'm nervous.

If you want to entertain yourself for a few hours check out www.televisiontunes.com .  I guarantee enjoyment.
