This week has pretty much been the cruise from the theological place of
eternal damnation (we can thank my HS Algebra 2 teacher for that lovely
phrase... see, I did learn something in his class...). I'm glad it's
over.
It pretty much started on Wednesday. There was an oil
spill on the pier on Maui and they wouldn't let us dock there, so we
had to spend the WHOLE DAY at sea. Maybe it started on Tuesday night
when I got a call from someone who thought they had food poisoning...
it turned out they had the norwalk like virus, what we lovingly refer
to as GI. It spreads quickly. So all day Wednesday, people were upset
about missing a day in Maui or upset about being sick. We had to
majorly change the sailing schedule, people were upset about that.
Added to those two major problems were a HOST of other small
problems... crew being sick and therefore rooms did not get cleaned,
the computer system for billing was totally screwed up, the toilet
system got clogged a couple times, no one got their correct luggage
tags or bill at the end. Today was a nightmare when they were all
trying to leave the ship. Add to all that the rumors floating around,
the people accusing us of lying to them because "that's not was MSNBC
said!" and you've got a real treat. It's been exciting.
I'm glad this cruise is over.
I
did meet some very nice people, and one Welsh lady gave me a $20 tip.
People seem to like it when you do what you say you will do. :)
I
also have stayed way past my bedtime every night this week, so I'm
really tired. And I've had to work at 6 these past two mornings, so
after I get my 3300 words in for the day, a nap may be in order. That
is, if I can finish my words before I have to be back at work in two
hours to finish up my eleven hour day....at least we'll just have easy
new passenger questions tonight, though.
I was supposed to go
out on Honolulu with my friend David from Germany, but they won't let
us get off the ship until the ENTIRE thing has been disinfected. Oh
well, I need to work on my novel anyway.
Here's a crappily written article that's semi true if you want to read it.
