| Fun Fair Activities We had a fun day at the fair! It started off with the academic rodeo. At 9:00a.m. Lydia participated in the 1st grade spelling bee against five other kids her age. She won 1st place! Then she was on a team for a challenge quiz and won second place. Then Daniel was on a team and they won 2nd place. I am very please that they participated (it was in front of a pretty large group of people). Then we went to check out the art and homemaking exhibits. Stephanie got several 1st and 2nds on some photographs that she took. Matthew won a 1st on photo he took. Lydia won Grand Champion in her age group for an outfit that she sewed. We hung out for awhile and looked at all of the animals and socialized with friends! Tomorrow we will see how we do with foods!!

| Election Day
I learned Tuesday that there are some very interesting people in our small town. I worked the election on Tuesday. In fact, my sister (election administrator of Robertson County) talked me into being the presiding judge for the Republican party. I was terrified at first, but I quickly got into the swing of things. It was nice being sociable and meeting such amusing people. I will share a few stories with you......
Election Judge: "Will you be voting Democrat or Republican today, sir?" Man: (with a smile) "What do I look like to you?" Election Judge (with a smile) "I am not answering that." Man: "I look poor don't I?" Election Judge: "Will you be voting Democrat or Republican today, sir?" Man: (laughing) "Democrat, of course."
Middle aged woman: "There is a lady down the street who tried to stop our car on the way here." Election Judge: "Really, what did she want?" Middle aged woman: "I think she was trying to make us be a Republican." (She didn't notice the lady that tried to stop her was holding an Obama sign)
Female voter: "They said on the news that we could vote twice" Election Judge: "Really!?!"
Person hands Id to Election Official. Election official attempt to "find" person in the electronic poll book, without any luck. Election official asks, "Have you ever registered to vote?" Person: "No" Election official: "You can register today and you will be eligible to vote for the next election" Person: "How can I vote for that guy out there that is giving out free barbecue?"
Person standing in line waiting to vote: "I am not voting for that man, he is wanting more homework for kids and my kids have enough homework. I am voting for the lady because she is for healthcare. My kids couldn't go to school if they were sick."

| Busy, but rewarding weekends
Two weeks ago today, Steve and I were at the "Whatever It Takes" conference by Paul and Jenny Speed. I don't know how to express what the weekend meant to both of us. It was very refreshing to meet real people. Every couple there had such a wonderful testimony of how God had performed miracles in their marriages. Some of the stories were heart wrenching, but that is where God can show His power, right? I would recommend this conference to anyone. If anyone wants more information about the conference I would love to share it with you!
Last weekend Stephanie and I went to a Mother/Daughter retreat. It was our first time. It was good to get away, just the two of us. We don't get to do that very often. We went canoeing, had a manicure, decorated cookies, made a princess crown , played a little ping pong (not my game), went on a hay ride, had smores, and went paddleboating (Steph "accidentally" fell in). The speaker was good (Sally Clarkston with whole heart minitstries). Most of all I just enjoyed being with Stephanie without any distractions. Thanks for going with me Steph!
I have really missed seeing everyone at church.

| August 22, 1987 - August 22, 2007Yesterday was our 20th anniversary! Wow, I can't believe it! It just keeps getting better.
We spent a long weekend in Arkansas at the lodge that we stayed in on our honeymoon. It was a nice quiet place to enjoy being outdoors. We were concerned last week that it would be too hot to do some hiking because they were having identical weather to ours (highs over 100). The temperature's dropped the day we headed up there to high in the low 80's. So it was very pleasant. We did a lot of hiking, which is something I have always wanted to do. It was wonderful to spend so much time focusing on each, talking, laughing, and just enjoying being together with no schedules. God really blessed us with a wonderful trip. God blessed me with a wonderful husband who has always done his best to make me happy. I thank God for bringing us together and for His hand in all that we have done (especially our mistakes). I am looking forward to the next 20 years!
