Here are some observations from my trip to Cincinatti, OH for the Youth Rowing National Championships:
* People specifically complain about Oklahoma and Texass being a rural farmland "hell-hole" and I beg to differ. With the exception of St. Louis, Springfield (if that even counts as a city), and Indianapolis, the central United States is nothing but fields and an occasional cow. I guess the only difference is that the hills there are green because it actually rains in those states.
* Cincinatti, Ohio ... oh wait, I never actually saw the city. HOWEVER, the Clarion that we stayed at and Lake Harsha were quite nice.
* Apparently in Ohio ominous clouds lurking on the horizon on an already rainy day are a sign that weather conditions are improving and that it's actually going to STOP raining. Hmmm that's funny, because in Oklahoma that definetly means that it's either going to rain more or that in about 5 minutes tornado sirens will start going off.
* Magellan GPS Navigational System = MapQuest in your car ... amazing.
* Speaking of navigation, there ARE some more people who are more navagationally impaired than me.
* Ohio's drinking laws are different than Oklahoma's ... haha.
* My sister's 4 is really fast ... one of the fastest in the nation.
* Teenage girls having to worry about making weight so that they can row lightweight are more moody than PMSing women.
* My family, in a car for an extended period of time, in nothing but cowfields = lots of cussing and arguing.
Ok, all sarcastic remarks aside -- I actually had a really good time playing with other people's dogs, rating the boy rowers with some of my sister's team, enjoying the significantly cooler Ohio weather (as opposed to the 101 degrees here) and playing "soccer mom" (AKA sitting around and talking/drinking with the parents). |
