@triciaplumley - Boston is actually a '70s band.

who cares?   The 70's were IT!  (ducking and laughing)

I didn't listen to much "secular" rock/pop in the 80's...

Absolute BEST Christian rock band of the 80's - Mylon LeFevre and Broken Heart.  http://www.mylon.org/bio/index.php  Check out the photos http://www.mylon.org/flashBack/index.php

My sweetie took me to see them live when I was preggers with Will.  I drove everywhere with their music blasting for months.

I was so busy raising babies and working, I didn't pay much attention. I liked Van Halen and Guns and Roses, and Sting, but they might be 1990's for all I know. It's all a blur!!!  I also liked Blondie.....

No argument there.
Have you seen this?
Which leads me to the question is U2 not just the best band of the eighties but of all time?

I always thought of U2 as more of a '90s band, but I guess their start was the '80s, so that'd count.

Me, I would've said The Clash or AC/DC (even though the latter is technically '70s by way of start).

the pictures didn't show up on my subscriptions page, and so I didn't see that it was U2 until I actually clicked on your page...if it hadn't been U2, I was ready to go on and on for a few minutes about how it should have been. but you picked them, so it's all good. :-p

@LandofMercy - Van Halen was actually a 70s band (albums Van Halen and Van Halen II released in the late 1970s).

GNR is definitely an 80s band, but they are nowhere near as influential as U2 (also, unlike U2, GNR is no longer together).

The Police (lead singer Sting, a.k.a. Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner) released their first two albums, Outlandos d'Amour and Regatta de Blanc, in the 70s.

So, with The Police and Van Halen, Renee (carrensey) may have a point - albeit beside the question.
