summer vacation trip 077

Virgil and Bettie King - Happy 62nd Anniversary!!

Words cannot express the love I feel, the impact you've had, the difference you've made in the lives of our family.

In other words, Grandma and Grandpa ROCK!

summer vacation trip 072

This picture is so priceless to me.  My two grandmothers sitting for a chat.  My Grandma Dorothy decided that she was ready to leave Texas and move back to Nebraska.  What are the odds she'd be in Scottsbluff, just a few miles down the road from my other grandparents?!

I had the delightful honor a few weeks ago of taking all three of my grandparents to lunch.  I can't even describe the feeling.  Plus, I discovered that Scottsbluff has some pretty darn good Mexican food.

I'm hopeful that although neither of my grandmothers drive, they will find ways to get together from time to time.  Friends are so very precious, and I worry that Gma Dorothy will get lonely with Gpa Gordon gone.  My aunt Laura and cousin Kathy live in the area too, so I know Grandma's enjoying reconnecting with them and their families.  It's so strange to me not having her in Texas any more.  Austin and Nolan will certainly miss the batches of cookies she always sent home with us.  More reasons to schedule more vacation time in Nebraska!

poem for Grandpa Gordon

This is the poem my Grandma Dorothy chose to have read at Grandpa Gordon's graveside service.  I had the priviledge of reading it.  And when we got home, Austin dedicated a tree in his great-grandpa's memory.

JUST A MEMORY AWAY

I'm no longer by your side,

but there's no need to weep;

I've left sweet recollections

I'm hoping you will keep.

Eternal joy and memories

stay in our hearts forever,

Strengthening our special bond

that parting cannot sever.

Now it's time to journey on,

so let your faith be strong,

For I am in a better place...

I'm home where I belong.

And if times of loneliness

bring sorrow and dismay,

Don't despair, for I am there...

Just a Memory Away.

Now you can not only check out the Jalan Crossland Band, but it's like you're right there with me (and Mark and Becky) at the Big Horn Mountain Festival.

Here are a few pics to complete the experience:

I've got a job!

I've been meaning to write about our amazing vacation, but as you'll see I've been busy since our return home:

I am happy to announce the search is finally over.  I have accepted a position with Daystar Christian TV Network.  It's an awesome company with an interesting assortment of ministry people and tv people, working together to bring God's word to the world.  Daystar broadcasts nationwide, plus 13 foreign countries.  For more info on the company, and to see if you can watch, check www.daystar.com
(Also, they're totally cool with me continuing to be the "Backup Buster" for CH 5.)
While I know that working for a religious company will have some unique challenges, I figure it's gotta be more uplifting than promoting news (and no sweeps!).
Besides, Daystar has 3 things every tv station needs:  1 - their own prayer department, 2 - a Starbucks in the building, and 3 - the diet Coke machine takes credit cards!  I'm in heaven.
The building is located 11 miles from my house, which is much handier than the jobs I turned down in Kansas City, MO and Portland, Maine.  I get to remain a Texan!
My work email should be set up in a day or two so I'll send out my contact info soon.  Thanks so much to all for the support, references, suggestions and/or advice.  This time off has been a blessing to me and the family, and now the new job has come at just the right time.  God knows what we need, even when we're too busy or stubborn to pay attention.

Here's an interesting thought for the day:
You needn't worry. There is time. You have all the time in the world. You preceded time and you will exist beyond it. Age is irrelevant; more meaningless than a number. Forever, (insert your name), you have FOREVER. There is no dream you now have that you will not manifest. There is no challenge you now face that you will not crush and dispose of. There is no point in spending one more second of your awesome, amazing life, thinking anything to the contrary.
Olé!
