By way of clarification:And if this is difficult to understand. Whatever. It's almost 1am. Considering the post twice previous: A reader suggested that the earlier post suggested that the esteemed Rev. Wilson was greater than both Paul and Apollos. I hope I have not treated the comment unfairly, but in way of response, here are the following..words: If you recall in the first chapter of 1 Corinthians, Paul speaks about divisions in the church. Some people were saying they were of Paul, some of Apollos, some of Cephas, and some of Christ. In the following verse Paul asked the rhetorical questions: "Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?" That these men of God were being idolized was in no way a bad reflection upon themselves, but rather a reflection upon the misguided affections of a small part of the church. I respect Doug Wilson very highly. This post referenced those certain people who choose to idolize him. The language was sarcastic, and the post was intended to ridicule absurdity. Now as much as I would like to make these people change their priorities, I have no such misguided fantasy that my words will actually cause them to change. In fact, I used an offensive word to make my accusation easier to reject. After all, an argument ending in "bitch" is much easier to refute in the minds of most Christians than one ending more...courteously. So, I knew the target audience probably wouldn't read, much less heed this post, so I chose to ridicule them even more by allowing them to write off the entire argument based solely on crude language. "omg, he said the b-word. he is a bad person. everything he says is bad!!" Yeah. Just making it easier. And, you know, I imagine if any Wilson idolizers have read this, I have not shot far from the mark. I know it's not consistent. It's pretty hypocritical, but that's part of the beauty. |
