So we've been a lot less stessed this year about cooking all this nonsense. I think it's because this is my fifth turkey in three years, and also, I think we're a lot better prepared for this year. Though I am slightly delirious from having been awake since 5:00am this morning, my sister and I started making our Thanksgiving dinner tonight (Wed.) at 10:30 pm. And now it's 2:00am and our turkey is basically going to be lonely in the oven tomorrow, because here's the breakdown:
Roast Turkey: Thawed; plan is to have it in the oven by 11:00, done by 3:30. Stuffing: Sausage cooked/spiced/drained, veggies chopped/measured/baggied, bread cubed/toasted/baggied. Plan is to heat and mix around 10:00, and then stuff turkey. Mashed potatoes and gravy: Complete Yam Casserole: Complete except for marshmallow topping, which will go on before back in oven for reheating. Green Beans: Beans blanched to cut down cooking time and cut into manageable sized pieces; can be ready to eat in 25 minutes. Corn bread: Complete Biscuits
It's that time again! Thanksgiving! Food galore! Well actually, we're doing Thanksgiving a lot smaller this year, since we're not expecting as many people, and we also don't have very many young'uns who, particularly in the male teenager form, can eat nearly three times their own body weight in food*. On the plus side, we're making even more stuff from scratch than before. The Stove Top has been shelved!
Here's the menu for this year: Roast Turkey Cranberry, sausage, and apple stuffing Mashed potatoes and gravy Yam Casserole Green Beans Corn bread Biscuits
Pumpkin Pie Two-layer Cheesecake Pumpkin Spice Bread
* Never mind, we're expecting just as many people as usual this year. Good thing my ability to gauge Portions Per Guest is still set on "Must Ensure Family Guests Have Leftovers for a Week" mode.
