| Good morning and happy New Year!
There are many exciting things on the horizon for my family this year. We hope to become more musical (as in learning to harmonize better when we sing as a group), and we will seriously tackle another language. Several of us already have international trips planned, which are always fun learning experiences.
Things that will probably stay the same: Continued major focus on intense discipling of the children via homeschooling and life experience. Everyone will read through the Bible at least once. The younger four children and I will continue memorizing the book of Philippians. Emphasis on physical health through excellent nutrition and consistent physical activity, including volleyball and biking for everyone. Intentional work on everybody's communication skills and emotional intelligence.
Things that will probably change: Family dynamics--Gypsy received her Bachelor's degree in December and is headed off for her first real-as-in-career job. (All prayers for her and us appreciated.) I hope to post more regularly and improve my communication level with folks--I actually was instant messaging the other day! I also hope to come up with a workable plan and timetable to launch my proofreading business.
I pray that God will bless you mightily in 2006 as you CHOOSE to know and obey Him.
"Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen."

| I started a post the other day but it got lost before I finished it. I guess I need more practice or fewer interruptions.
I am reading a fascinating book called _Upside-Down Brilliance--The Visual-Spatial Learner_ by Linda Silverman. This book has given me so many insights into: my husband; my own children; other people's children; and myself!! At least four of the eight people in our family are strong visual-spatial learners (VSLs)--people who think in images more than words. I have some strengths in the audio-sequential way of dealing with the world, but the description of VSLs fits me well enough that I can understand that perspective.
Check out www.gifteddevelopment.com and take the inventory. From the first page: click "Welcome" to enter; go to the links on the left side of the page and click "Visual-spatial learner"; click on VSL indicator--self-report English.
Let me know what you think.
| Well, so much for getting off to a consistent start! Summer is a great time to begin a blog, but the lack of schedule works against me--I am a creature of habit! Anyway, as I start to get into a rhythm for the fall, I'm hoping to translate all the stuff in my head into more regular posts.
To begin with, here are the basic newsblogs that I scan on a regular basis:
www.hughhewitt.com www.powerlineblog.com www.captainsquartersblog.com www.irishpennants.com
Reading these blogs keeps me current with some of the important issues being discussed in America. They also provide lots of info for my prayer life!

| Such a great day! The sun was out, & the breeze was blowing GENTLY, so we loaded the bikes in the back of the van and drove about 15 minutes to the banks of the Rhine Canal. First we biked south between the rows of trees, watching the barges and boats on the canal on one side and the cows, horses, sheep. goats, swans, ducks, and herons in the fields on the other. The bike path is level, but we did have to cross one bridge where they had metal "troughs" for us to push our bikes up while we climbed the steps. Going up was okay but it was trickier coming down without losing control! We faced into the wind coming back-- that just made our picnic of croissants, ham, cookies, and juice taste all the better.
This week I hope to start more serious blogging--like book reviews, prayer points, etc.
| Well, I've finally made the leap into the wonderful world of BLOGGING! It will be interesting to see how my weblog develops. My hope is that what I write will both encourage and challenge you in your own journey. | | |
