Guess who's back-back-back(back again-gain-gain) So I have come back after more than 3 weeks (which included studying for finals, finals themselves, a very strange proposition from an old friend who offered to be my "booty call" and one week of college touring road trip) to realize that most have probably not even realized that I had left. But it was a nice little hiatus and a good time to concentrate on my academic life without the distraction of internet. I successfully avoided both xanga and facebook for 3 weeks, as well as getting in the A range for all my finals, which I am exceedingly proud of. (I don't typically get As!) I don't think anyone would actually read what I would write about my college touring experience, so I decided to do a picture journal! 8D So Cat woke up on Monday morning and set off with her mother for their first stop: UPenn. At first the weather wasn't that great, so Cat was a big skeptical. It was her first college, so it gave her a rather shocking first impression. But after some touring, she warmed up to it quite a bit and it would become her favourite university for the week.
She and her mother stayed the night in Philly. They ate sandwiches and salad for the first time at Cosi, and shopped a little before heading in to rest before their stop for the next day, Haverford. Haverford was weird. Cat didn't like it. Therefore there are no pictures of it. :) Next was Swarthmore. It was a school with a small name, but it made a big impression. Although she initially wondered if Swarthmore was the college for her, Cat quickly grew attached to it and it became her favorite college. There were students out and about doing work, playing frisbee, sketching, you name it. The next stop was DC. Although Cat liked the layout of the campus of Johns Hopkins, something about it just didn't click.
While JHU was somewhat of a let down, there was one thing about DC that was fantastic: the cherry blossoms. She visited a public garden owned by Harvard (I know, Harvard garden in the middle of DC, wtf) that had cherry trees that stretched for maybe a mile around. It was fantastic.
Next was Georgetown. At this point, Cat forgot her camera, so there are no pictures of it either. >>;; FOOD. This was the bulgogi Cat had in Princeton, but she also had some in Baltimore (JHU). They were both Japanese/Korean restaurants. She believed the food in Princeton to be better, but Baltimore had a cute Asian waiter. ;)
Last stop was Princeton, of coure renown for it's rich brainy white kids. The campus was actually quite nice, but Cat was a little creeped out by the lack of life. It was almost deserted. It was probably good that Cat didn't love the school. That way she wouldn't be too discouraged when getting deferred from it next year. xD
What did I learn from this trip? I love UPenn and Swarthmore. Haverford is a little too in touch with their Quaker roots and give a creepy vibe. So that was my trip! Well, week 1 of it, at least. Next week I'm going north to hit up Brown, Harvard, MIT, Amherst, and Yale. Okay so I'm guessing the majority of people who read this (if any have) actually skipped everything I wrote for lack of caring. lol But that's okay. Just nod and write "ROFFLES" really big on your comment and I'll be happy to know that at least someone has acknowledged my absense. I'm expecting maybe 1 comment. (2 if I'm really really lucky.) |
