| Tuesday, my b'day & Wednesday, the day after.Tuesday, I woke up at about 8:30, my bride was gone. She went to the Dr. for her sinus symptoms. He gave her medicine. I piddled around until she returned. We left to go to the bank to cash our check from the house sale. We arrive and the bank says they will have to put a hold for a week on the check until they see the money arrive to cover it. Or we could go to the other bank and ask for a certified check . So we left and went back to the Title Co., my nephew Christian's law office. He was out, but one of the ladies called the bank and they wired the money to our bank....done! We went ride by Tate and Sarah's just to say hello. Sarah was at LSD and Tate was editing...duh! We then went for lunch at Brubacher's, a local eatery. After we stopped to visit our friends Kent and Kim at about 1:30 P.M. We had a nice visit until we left at about 4 P.M. When we got home Iva's sister Carla called and invited us to join the compounders for chicken stew at their home. All four couples were there and Tate and Sarah joined us. Van brought ice cream, Randy brought homemade rootbeer, we brought gumbo, potato salad and lemon dobeauge (sp) cake. It was all very good. We sat around and visited for a while and then walked back across the yard home. Turned out to be a good meal/b'day cake and ice cream party. Thanks for joining us Tate and Sarah... it was good huh? Today, Wednesday, Iva and I left home around 9:30 A.M. to go to her middle school and load 50 chairs. She borrowed them for a friend who is hosting a wedding rehearsal party Thursday evening. We also stopped and bought 7 cans of black paint. We delivered the chairs to her sister's back yard, set them all up in three rows and started touching up all the scrapes on the black chairs. They looked new again when we left. The tip of my trigger finger is still a little numb from spray painting for over an hour. Tate is standing in the wedding this Sunday at 5 P.M. between Lawrence Olivier III (Law) and Tracy Wimberley. We'll be there. They're getting married at a wedding/reception place in Baton Rouge called White Oak Plantation. We returned home, Iva left to go run errands... I chilled. When she got back around 4:30 P.M. I left to go watch a 9th grade football game. One of our friends deaf sons team was playing. I went to support him. After his game we watched half of the Jr. Varsity game and then went to pick him up at the school. We, Josh, his Dad Don, and sister Jorie and I, then went out for fast food together. We said good night at around 9 P.M. I stopped at Wal-Mart to pick up a light switch; the one in our kitchen is acting up. Got home at 10 P.M. My bride had picked up 120 t-shirts that were made for our family members who will walk in the annual Alzheimer "Walk to Remember" fund raiser. She sorted, labeled, and bagged them to hand out at the fasmily reunion this Sunday. The walk is next Saturday the 18th on LSU's campus. It's a beautiful walk around campus, under the oaks, around the lakes, etc. We'll have one of the largest groups if not the largest. Our team is called "The Big Bad Bourgeois". Join us and register online at www.BRhope.com. All for today...cheers! | | |
| Sunday & MondaySunday my bride went to 9 A.M. in St. Amant because she had to come home and finish preparing lunch for our guest. I went to 10:30 mass to share with my family, my great nephew is preparing for his confirmation (Catholic) and their was a special mass for them today. I raced back home about 11:45 and changed and waited for Tate and Sarah and Brooke and her parents. They all showed up around 12:30 P.M. We ate lunch and walked around the compound. I showed them the crawfish pond and told them all the facts and figures. We had a nice visit and a great meal. Her parents were really nice people and we told them to come back anytime. They left around 1:30 to go see Tate and Sarah's home and to go b'day gift shopping for Brooke's gift. Iva worked the rest of the afternoon on her pictorial project she is putting together for our family reunion on the 12th. I tried to watch 20 football games. Monday: It's official... WE HAVE SOLD THE SORRENTO HOME. Signed the final papers today and have the check in my hands. I wished the new family health and happiness in their new home. I went to Tate and Sarah's and cut their grass. Tate and I raked up the last remnants of sticks that were left where all the limbs and debris were piled. They were finally picked up by the parish workers. He hauled about five wheelbarrow loads to the burn pit. The yard looks really nice now. I weed eated about half before I had to go pick up the check. My bride is not feeling well. She will go to the Dr. tmw morning. Sinus & sore throat. I hate when she's not her perfect self. This is the only thing that ever bothers her, sinus problems every year about this time. I also have to admit, the old trunk she bought Friday looks pretty good in our living room. If I had been with her I would have done my best to talk her out of the purchase... I would have been wrong. "eating words". All for today fans... cheers! EDIT: I just realized that it is now Oct. 7th, the anniversary day of my birth. 62 years, who would have thought I would have lived that long! Please don't send expensive gifts...no, no, really. If you'd like to do something for my b'day... do something nice for a stranger today and leave me a comment telling me what you did. Thanks! | | |
| SaturdayMy bride left early to join friends to attend the district meeting of their education society about an hour away from here. I went to my friend Ory's home to assist his son Scott and Ory's brother Gerald in preparing food for his birthday party today. We roasted a pig in a cajun microwave (my first time) and made a small jambalaya. Tons of other foods: sausages, boudin, vegetables, cakes, cookies, brownies, pralines, and pastries showed up. I ate my share! It was a very nice gathering. Most of his large family showed up and a few surprise guest also. A couple older cousins he had not seen for many years and his son who lives in CA, among the surprises. The food was great, and lots of laughing took place. My bride arrived at about 3 PM, she got to visit a wild, eat a piece of cake and then she and I went to pick up an antique chest she bought today. it was too large for her toyota to carry. It's now in the living room. When we returned she came home to prepare lunch (make a gumbo) tomorrow with Tate, Sarah, Brian, Brooke and her parents. I stayed another hour and helped Scott clean his pots and pick up stuff. I left the party with about 20 people still sitting together talking at about 4:30 P.M. Today was another beautiful day, clear, sunny and pleasant (in the shade). I look forward to meeting Brooke's parents and having lunch together. Hope you have a nice Sunday also. Cheers! | | |
| Friday - a good dayThis morning Iva and I went to the Plant's meeting facility at about 10 A.M., the former site of Tezcuco Plantation (Tez-coo-co). About 70 retirees met, visited for an hour, had a brief meeting, and had a great lunch. We also sponsored a meeting after the lunch for anyone who wanted to hear two Humana Insurance reps talk about supplemental insurance. Iva and I left with containers full of left overs and came home around 1 P.M. We then met at Superior Title, owned by my lawyer nephew Christian (Lola's dad) with the people buying our Sorrento house and property to take care of the paperwork associated with the closing. We signed all the papers and will receive the money Monday. When I get the check in my hand you will probably feel the vibrations from the happiness yell. It's time to move on and away from this part of our lives. I wish the people buying it much happiness with their new home. We left the office and went ride by Tate and Sarah's home for a few minutes. They were on their way to a support meeting for LSD tonight. Iva and I left for Baton Rouge. We had some fast food, shopped for about 30-40 minutes and then left for a little production of "Chicago", by the Baton Rouge Little Theater. It was very good and was the best performance we have ever seen at this theater. We got home about 11 P.M. and my bride crashed. She has an early alarm call tmw. She is leaving around 6:30 to meet other ladies who will be traveling to the district meeting of their education society in New Roads. LA. An all day meeting, she said she should be back around 3 P.M. I will go help one of my good friends son Scott cook a jambalaya and roast a pig for a lunch celebration celebrating his dad's birthday. It'll be fun. Sunday we are hosting a lunch here for Brian, Brooke and her parents. Tate and Sarah will also be here. We'll give them a taste of Louisiana. Today was/is Brooke's birthday. I hope she has about 70 more of them, right here in LA. I love Brooke... and Brian's okay too. ha! Hope you are having as nice weather as we are. Have a wonderful weekend... Cheers! | | |
| Wednesday & ThursdayWednesday... I washed Iva's Toyota and my truck. Wow, I had to wash them twice in most places. I hadn't washed them since a week before the hurricanes, a month ago. They look nice and shiny, clean now. I also used a broadcaster and put out ant poison on our two acres yard. B-i-l Randy picked up my seven piles of limbs with his Kubota tractor and delivered them to B-i-l Van's fire pile, they burned in no time at all. Today, Thursday. Uncle Tom and I trimmed out a tree in b-i-l Randy's yard. I then packed up some salvaged treated 2" X 4" boards (circa 1985) in my truck and two salvaged screen doors from my Dad's home, circa 1945, and went to Tate and Sarah's home. I went to work on replacing the fragile, flimsy, broken screen doors on the back porch. The porch was in the sun and it was hot. I took the opportunity to go inside and help Iva, Tate, and Sarah replace hanging cane blinds with wooden slat blinds in six windows. It was much cooler in there. All I got done on the screen porch project was removing the old screen doors , salvaged the screen, and beefing up the door frames to install the two "new" frames. Sarah & Iva will sand and paint the "new" doors and 'll replace the screen and then hang them. They all left to go party; Iva to pokeno and T & S to celebrate Brooke's birthday. I went inside to pick up my stuff and saw that Big brother was starting so I watched it and the first hour of the VP debate and then headed home, almost. I first detoured to returned a shower head at Home Depot and after stopped for a burger at the King's place. Tomorrow is Friday. At 10 A.M. I have to preside over the retirees quarterly meeting and lunch. Then, hopefully, tmw afternoon we will do the closing on the Sorrento house. Should take place around 3P.M. Please cross your fingers that it gets done tmw afternoon. All for now...cheers! | | |
