Dare You to Move

The year that was 2007:

-New Years 07. I drove to Remus just for a fountain beverage with Jake Sproul.

-Rafting down the Chippewa River in the middle of January.  It was cold but it was something I will never forget.

-Spring Break with Brett and Eric in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  We drove all that way just to see Cartel and Boys Like Girls in concert.  Before the show we ate at the Hard Rock Cafe that was right across the street from the venue and we met Martin, John and Paul of Boys Like Girls.  We also met Will, the lead singer of Cartel at the restaurant!  It was a pretty amazing trip

-The wrap up as my first year as a Resident Assistant was pretty amazing.  I had some of the best residents anyone could ask for.  They def. taught me a lot about the job and a lot about myself.

-Orientation 07 as an Orientation Program Assistant.  I had a great time working with everyone again and creating the lunch program with Cortney for the freshmen.

-Summer conferences.  Highlight of my summer!!  I had the absolute BEST camp ever with some pretty sweet campers.  I will always remember soccer camp as the most memorable camp I worked in the past two years as a camp counselor.

-Summer Reading.  I finished the longest book I've ever read since high school.  I disovered my love for Harry Potter.  In celebration of the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, I read Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.  Not only did I read that book, but I also finished the final book this year.  I have never been so into reading before.  I consider it a major breakthrough in my life that I found books that I actually enjoy reading.

-Move-In 07.  My residents this year are pretty sweet.  I am a lot closer to them this year then I was last year and I love it.  I am thankful for all of them and I look forward to having one more semester with them!  I also have two wonderful roommates.  Steve is a great friend...kinda like the little brother I never had.  Jordan...well...he is pretty much the brother I never had because he is never in the room.  But none the less he is a good guy!

-Homecoming.  Best week ever!!  It meant so much that Michelle and Curt came to see me that weekend.  I am thankful for being able to experience that and it was SUCH an honor to be a part of that group!  My Merrill/Sweeney group was another huge highlight of that week.  They did an amazing job with their mock rock, and it meant so much to me when they cheered for me when I was on stage!

-Family Communication.  I studied so hard for the two exams in that class and it paid off.  I have never done so well on an exam before.

-Spending time with my Grandma Doane.  I used to spend a lot of time with her as a child.  As I grew up, I never really made time to see her.  Partially because I was just getting older, but I also think it was because my mom didn't really encourage me to spend time with her because it brought up memories of my father.  I remember seeing her one time when I was in high school and she nearly cried and asked me if she did something to offend me.  I've never forgotten that...  I was able to visit her three times over break and spend some good quality time with her.  I also was able to fill her in about what I've doing at college.

-Family Christmas Parties.  It has been a good two years since I have been able to go to the Christmas party on my mother's side.  I loved catching up with everyone and being able to feel a part of the family again.

-Christmas in Florida.  I thought it was going to be difficult to go to Florida with my parents.  I ended up having an amazing time and I really feel like got to spend some quality time with my mother which is something I haven't been able to do for several years.

MOVIES of 2007
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Hairspray
Transformers

It has been such a great year.  I really don't know what else to say about it except I thank God for allowing me to experience everything I have experienced this year.  I also thank God for the amazing people he has brought into my life.  I know there are plenty more things about 2007 that make it amazing...I will add to the list if I remember more things.

Happy New Year!!

...23 now got my life in my hands

This is the song of the moment...it probably will be for the rest of the semester.

Cartel - Wasted

It's 2:45 the baby takes his first breath
The mother never knew he only had a few left
And the father gets a call in the middle of the night
His breath gets short and his chest gets tight

But he's 16 and he's driving too fast
Takes a turn to the left, it would be his last
Nobody knows what happens if he turns to the right
Nobody in the car woulda died that night

But he's 32 and invincible
The cancer he had it was visceral
He never saw it coming
Thought he had his whole life
Sick in the morning and he died in the night

We're all so
We're on the line
We're all
We're all [oh]
We're wasted, no no no
We're all wasted
We're wasted, no no
We're all wasted

He's 7 years old, got his bat in his hand
He's looking for his father and he doesn't understand
Cuz dad's too busy got some deals on the way
His son sits alone as the children play

And he's 18 he couldn't wait to move out
His parents wonder what the rush is about
They never bothered with his dreams only thinking of theirs
Wonders why he doesn't call and why he doesn't care

But he's 32 and invincible
With everything he is based on principle
He never had a truly happy moment in his life
He didn't want the kids and he didn't want his wife

We're wasted, no no no
We're all wasted
We're wasted, no no
We're all wasted
We're wasted
We're all wasted
We're all wasted, no no
We're all wasted

23 now, got his life in his hands
He's looking all around and he doesn't understand
Cuz life's too busy, things get in the way
We all feel alone every single day

And I'm 18 couldn't wait to move out
It's been five years and now im starting to doubt
Whether all my dreams are just aimless stares
Looking out to someplace that isn’t there

When I'm 32 will I'll be miserable?
With everything around based on principle
Well, I have a clue,ooo wouldn't it be nice
To never be alone in this wasted life

We're wasted, no no no
We're all wasted
We're wasted, no no
We're all wasted
We're wasted
We're all wasted
We're wasted, no
We're all wasted

Radioheadish by Cartel

Take the best
The best is all that i can give
And find a way
So again I fall
To me it means nothing at all
But I rise again
Fear the plane
It's pretty but it's oh so vain

And it shapes me
Swear I'll find truth
In the past, the pull of time
Even if I die

Tonight I will follow
I've made my mind
And I, I will follow
I'll make this path
The last good thing I've done
And I, I'll be gone.

If nothing else,
Carry off with what you can
Find a place
I just though of what you said
And it's much to soon
For all of them but not for you

And it shapes me
Swear I'll find truth
In the past, the pull of time
Even if I die

Tonight I will follow
I've made my mind
And I, I will follow
I'll make this path
The last good thing I've done
And I, I'll be gone.

by far the worst day of orientation I have ever had.  Session 25 was TERRIBLE.  From printer problems in the library, parents who refused to allow their students schedule without them, to students who were uninterested, unresponsive, and down right rude to everyone.  At least I know it can only get better tomorrow!

I love orientation and I truly believe that tomorrow will be better.
