  • Here's what happens when I'm sick at home all day and get really bored.  This is something I did today based off of the saying, "Whoever dies with the most toys wins."

  • Well, now that school's over, I again have time to waste just sitting at my computer...well, at least until I start work. So, let's recap my whole last quarter. I took 4 music classes and 2 non-music classes, was hospitalized, met some awesome people, sang, danced, and had had a blast doing all of those...except for the hospital thing.

This was my first quarter in choir at BCC and our end of the quarter concert was AMAZING! On the last day we got to listen to ourselves on the CD and it sounded so incredible.

This was my second quarter of class voice and we had a little concert at the end of the quarter which was a blast. We all had way too much fun. My other classes (Music Theory, Psychology, and Geology) were much harder; but this was mainly due to the fact that I was in the hospital for 9 days.

May 2nd I was brought to the ER at 10:30 and was admitted for surgery May 3 (My birthday) at 12:45. I had my appendix removed and an abscess on my small intestine drained. Yeah, so I pretty much missed two weeks of school and catching up was insanely hard.

This summer from Aug. 9-14 the swing group I'm in, The Eastside Swing Cats, are going to California to perform at Disneyland. This is something we auditioned for and were accepted to perform. Aside from that our group is putting on a fundraiser dance with workshops, dinner & show, and dance to raise money for the trip. Outside of the swing team I have been dance crazy, and going to every dance I can.

And the best part about all these things are the friendships I've made along the way and the friendships that have been strengthened. I have been encouraged by so many of you this quarter and I appreciate the bond that we share. And through weird and unpredictable circumstances I met a beautiful young lady named Mary and we have been dating for 2 1/2 months. She has been a strong and generous encourager and has supported me through everything.

Last night at two a-clock I got an email that is going to change my life starting next school year. The letter read as follows:

    Dear Keith,

I am pleased to inform you that you have been selected for The BCC Vocal Jazz Ensemble "Celebration".

We have an exciting year ahead next year with two Major Conference Performances – as our group was chosen to perform at the International Association of Jazz Educators Conference in Toronto, Ontario, Canada – and the American Choral Directors Association Conference in Vancouver, BC. This will be a great honor. In addition we will do our normal travel with a special trip to California for the Fullerton Jazz Festival and Magic Music Days at Disneyland.

Our group promises to be an excellent one as we have a great group of singers and players.

    CONGRATULATIONS!

I am so excited to begin again.

    In Harmony,

    Tom Almli

I auditioned for this in the last week of school and I have been a nervous wreck ever since. I am still in shock!! This is such a high honor to be selected for this group. Celebration in nationally renowned and last year they won best overall group, and best soprano, alto, and bass solos.

Well, summer is here and I'm ready for the sun...sigh. As for now, while I wait eagerly for the sun, I guess I'll continue to drowned myself in music and dancing.

It Don't Mean a Thing if it Ain't Got That SWING!!!
