Those of you who know me, already know that I am the newest employee of Bar Natasha in downtown Kansas City. Thos of you who know me also know how happy that makes me. I have been wanting to work there for some time. So, that is a bit of good news in the storm of unemployment and bills. (not a good combination, by the way)

I really believe that this is all going to work out eventually. This will all end with me in a better place than I am now. I'm going to hold on to that, because pessimism will accomplish nothing now. So, all of you who still bother with this blog, hope with me. There will be a solution and a job will arrive.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee....

This is my life while being unemployed. I am currently sitting here watching the circus that is the National Spelling Bee. This is truly crazy. Kids ranging from any age up to 16 spelling words that language seems to have saved purely for use in a competition like this...Physis...Saponin....Nephrosclerosis....Ophthalmoplegia...Diaphoresis...
Where do they dredge up words like this? Seriously? And how do all these kids know how to spell them all!?

Being unemployed is truly an annoying state. I don't much like working, but sitting at home is way worse. I don't know that aven if they payed me to do it that I would. I don't like who I am right now. It's not that I'm not looking. I've had a couple interviews... I've got a couple more lined up, but I feel pretty worthless. I can't gain employment. Hopefully, something will work out soon. The situation has just become more dire. I had to CANCEL my recurring subscription to World of Warcraft yesterday for fear that it would automatically withdraw and send my account into overdraft. (this is a serious situation) Oh yeah...cell phone payments, and car payments an insurance too, but let's focus on that which is important here....WoW!!!! Anyway, wish me luck, all. This too shall pass. I don't think it's gonna kill me, so purportedly, it's supposed to make me stronger...Maybe it will.

Ok, so....Season Finale was last night. I've heard one out there refer to it as "somewhat disappointing." I suppose that it might be viewed that way. However, unlike their normal fashion, questions were answered. Which to me, as a pretty avid viewer is refreshing. Granted, in true Lost fashion, there were more questions asked than answered, but that is the name of the game. However, for some reason at the end of this season, I wasn't as intrigued as I was at the end of last season.

As the episode wound down, we saw Jack, Kate, and Sawyer on a dock bound by the "Others" Obviously, making the viewer apprehensive as to their plans with our 3 main characters. However, we do know that nothing bad will befall them because you don't kill Jack, Kate and Sawyer and expect to maintain a viewing audience. But, here is my issue. And here is why I'm not as worried/apprehensive as I should be. The more we focus on the others, the less scary they become to me. I mean, yeah, "Henry Gale" is a creepy fella, but when these people aren't shrouded in mystery, and walking around barefoot through the woods, they don't seem as scary. They are a mystery, yes. With their fake beards, and make-up and things, but, while a mystery, they're not scary. Perhaps, I am interested in knowing the origin of their mystery. What they're really all about, but interest doesn't make me anxiously anticipate any info that might slip out over the summer, and make me wait with baited-breath for the first episode of next season.

Anyway, I will watch next season. But, I'm not sure if mere intrigue was enough. So, perhaps, this long entry is simply myself stating that I agree with the "somewhat disappointing" assessment of the season finale of Lost. Thoughts?

I am without a job, and all of my efforts thus far have come up short. Commerce Bank, Office Team, Able Employment, Lab One, Appleone...It's not like I haven't tried. It's not like I'm not hireable! WTF? Someone just give me a frickin job!! Substitution is starting to look like a viable option...jeez.

NFL.com reports that Jason Taylor of the Miami Dolphins was stabbed recently in an apparent hate crime. Here's an excerpt....

"The passenger in the truck, who wasn't charged, allegedly got out and started to bang on the hood of Taylor's trunk. The 6-foot-6, 255-pound Taylor then got out of his car and was confronted by the 5-foot-11, 168-pound Burns, who was allegedly yelling racial insults and threatening to kill Taylor, according to a police report."

Let's put this in perspective, shall we?

The fight of the century!!!...if you enjoy watching idiot hicks get PWND. Becuase I'm pretty sure that's what tould happen.

I guess my question is this: What drugs do you have to be on to get out of a car and face someone a full 7 inches taller than yourself, and roughly a hundred pounds heavier and call them a ni**er? SERIOUSLY, WHAT DRUGS? Would they numb your body enough that when you got pounded into the ground you wouldn't feel it?

V For Vendetta

Having never been associated with the comic that this movie was based on, I didn't have any preconceived notions walking in. I didn't have any standards that this movie had to live up to to be accurate with it's source material. Which is possibly why my opinions of the movie may be a little nicer than those who had read or seen the comic.

I thought V For Vendetta painted an edgy, dystopian view of a world in which politicians use fear and propaganda as a means for unification, and subjugation. It's an interesting look at the pursuit of power and control. Not to mention, the ends people will go to to obtain and keep it. Countered by a rebellious citizen who is able to see through the smoke-screen. A man who refuses to concede that this is reality, and nothing is to be done about it.

I also think that it takes a subject laced with strong feelings and makes people take a look at it through different lenses. Terrorism. V's grand finale is to blow up the Houses of Parliament. An act meant to defy the unjust government in one final destructive show. It is apparent to the audience member who watches with a critical eye that we are meant to identify with V, and his act of destruction is meant to appear as an act of rebellion. A rebellion against the injustice that is horrible and repressive. If we're to be honest, V is nothing more than a terrorist. A sympathetic, and empathetic terrorist. Yet, we're with him! Even though his ultimate goal is to destroy a symbol of the oppression that is facing people through a massive explosion.

Which I guess, leads to an interesting question. When does a reactionary become a terrorist? Is the line crossed when we discover that they're not fighitng for what we believe in? Up until then, are we content to believe that since their cause is just, their actions are justified?

This is the umpteenth time I have attempted to incite discussion on my site...we shall see how it works.

Immigrants' firing leads to protest

15 women lose jobs after attending rally; manager says they were warned

A manager at a Detroit meatpacking plant said Monday that 15 immigrant women were fired last month after attending a protest for immigrant rights. He said they had been told that they would be terminated if they missed work on the day of the protest.....

....They were fired "for standing up for their rights," Herrada said.

...."It was not fair,'" said Mercedes, a 31-year-old Detroit woman who attended the rally and was fired. "We went to fight for our rights." Mercedes is undocumented and asked that her last name not be used.

"It was really unfair of a company to do that," said Edith Castillo, head of the Detroit-based Latin Americans for Social and Economic Development.

I presonally can't beleive how unfair it is for a manager of a company to fire someone for skipping work. That is complete and utter bullshit. How dare my manage ever even think about questioning my attendance habits. That presumptious son of a bitch. I will come to work when I damn well please, and if I get fired, then I will bring a suit against the company. Because this is America, it will actually make the courts, and if I were a minority living in this country illegally- and consequently, working in this country illegally- I might just win. Especially with tensions so high about immigration right now. Welcome to America.

Nineth Castillo, a 26-year-old waitress from Guatemala who joined the Atlanta march, said she has lived in the United States for 11 years "without a scrap of paper."

Asked whether she was afraid to parade her undocumented status in front of a massive police presence, she laughed and said: "Why? They kick us out, we're coming back tomorrow."

Taken from a newspaper article describing the immigrant rights protests. Not only is this person not here legally, they have utter disregard for the laws. But no worries, their American flag t-shirt brands them a patriotic American....HORSE HOCKEY.
