The Girl In The Library by: Gary and Josh
As I sat in the library, I saw that girl that was sitting next to me. She was not doing much. She seemed like she was the quiet type, but I wanted to move in closer to find out for myself. I always noticed her in class, but I never had the courage to actually talk to her. She was usually with her group of girls who were the most popular kids in school. I, not being part of the "in" crowd, was unable to find anyway to communicate with her, but this was my one chance. As she was doing question number 6 in her AP calculus hw, I slipped my pencil out of my hand and let it roll to her foot. She looked at the pencil, then at me, and for that one instant my heart stopped. I felt connected to her somehow, but then I realized that she was looking at the boy behind me who happened to be starting point guard for the Townsend Harris Seagulls. It was the ruggedly handsome Noel, the only boy who I had ever felt envy for. Noel, however, left the library after checking out some Maxim magazines, and the coast was once again clear. Then I saw her pick up my pencil, and her long, luscious, black hair fell over her soft and pretty face. She looked around curiously, but with a spark of sexiness in her eyes, wondering who's pencil it was. I was about to say "Mine", but the words got caught in my mouth, and I made a gagging noise. I tried so hard to make myself known but all that came out of my mouth was "boggowaine." At that moment, by face flushed the reddest of reds and I felt all my hopes and dreams come crashing back down to the ground. However, she somehow caught sight of me and stood up with such elegance and beauty that could stop a million men in their steps. She smiled at me with her perfect teeth and I felt better all so soon. She walked over and asked me in her sweet sweet voice, "is this pencil yours?"
I summed up all my courage and I said…. "yes". She looked at me with those light blue eyes and smiled, such a smile that made me speechless. She returned the pencil to me and in doing so her soft, beautiful skin came into contact with mine, and I fluttered. As she walked away slowly, all I could seem to stare at was her ….. hair. That big, voluptuous, finely shaped….hair. She sat back down in her seat and started up on question number 7 for her AP calculus hw. At that moment, my whole life flashed before my life; all those times that I never took the initiative and wasted away in that boyhood fear. I decided that this was the time for a change. I pushed my books away and stood up and attempted to make my move as I walked toward her table. I summed up all my courage and I said to her "Um, uh, do you know what the math hw is?" I silently cursed myself at my ineptitude. She looked up at me with her beauty once again and told me to do number 6 – 174 on the AP calculus text book page 2299. I said "Um ok then" and then I realized that she was laughing at me. She said "I'm just kidding, its on page 3205, lighten up!" I giggled like a little girl, feeling so silly about how I could believe such a joke. She then said "You know, I never talk to you, my name is Garyella" I felt that this was my chance, so I said back to her in my girly voice, "hey my name is Joshua". She smiled at said, "Hey would you like to sit down next to me?" She flung her hair with her hand and I realized from watching MTV that this was a sign of flirting. I then proceeded to run my hand through my long Asian bangs to show my real intentions.
I pulled up a seat next to her and slowly sat down as close to her as I possibly could. I could smell her Pantene Pro-V shampooed hair, and I was pretty sure she could smell my Old Spice. I tried to say something but she was simply continued doing her AP calculus hw completely ignoring my presence. I was surprised at this indifference towards me, as she just asked me to sit down next to me. Was this how all "hot girls" operated? This was so confusing for a nerd like me and all I could do was pretend to be reading off her AP calculus book as well. After a while she said "Excuse me, could you please not sit so close to me". At this moment in time, I felt my heart shatter into 3.14 million pieces, which is the approximation of pi. When I was about to move away I saw Noel again, and I felt a new surge of masculinity flow through my feeble body and I said to her "I know my Calculus, it says you plus me equals us!" She looked up with a confused look, but it soon turned to a smile so warm that it could melt away my heart. She said "I'm sorry I was a little blunt before but I can't understand some of my math hw". Since you're a nice Asian nerd, you don't mind doing my hw for me do you?
At that moment, I felt proud of my Asian heritage and I said "sure no problem". I agreed to do all of her hw, wishing that in turn, she might talk to me in the hallways sometime in the future. I couldn't help notice that as I was doing the homework she couldn't take her eyes off me. I felt a rise of self-confidence and I turned to her and said, "Hey I really like your light blue eyes". She then gave me a look of disgust and said "Um, they are hazel" I was so embarrassed at this point. How could I not notice the color of her eyes. I had to say something. At that moment I had no shame and I said "It's just that I stare into those big pretty hazel eyes all day that to me, they turn light blue". "Your eyes look like the heavenly sky and the color just brings warmth to my heart." She then said, "I never knew how sweet you were Joshua, thank you for your warmth and compassion" As I completed number 174 on her AP calculus hw, I turned to her and told her I was finished. She turned to me with a suggestive look and said "But we're not over yet!" "Stay here and talk to me about yourself, I really want to get to know you a little bit better," she said while flashing her eyelashes.
It was at that moment that I felt at peace with myself, her and the world and I said "Sure, I would love to!". However, I looked at the clock and it showed 1:55, I knew that the period was about to end and I had to step my game up a little. So I said, "Wait, Garyella, give me your heart, give me your soul, and most importantly, give me your number!" At this moment, Garyella seemed to have a change in personality. She no longer looked at me as a nerd that I was, but rather had the same look toward me like the one she gave toward the tall muscular Noel. She said… "It's…it's 212-676-5866". I had no pencil or paper, so she simply took my arm with her soft soft hand and wrote the numbers on my wrist. At that moment my hand shook so violently that my shirt ripped in 3 different places.
She looked at me, shocked to see that I had the perfect body that any boy my age would die to have. She took off my glasses, gelled my hair, and applied the tenderness that I have always needed and craved. I didn't know what was going on, only that I trusted this girl and I would do anything to be with her. She then took out her mirror and I looked at myself in shock, I was now the Noel of the school. I had everything he had, and I think that I was even more handsome than him in this case. She then expressed her true feelings to me, and I expressed mine to her. Leaving her AP calculus hw on the table, she grabbed my shirt and took me to the back room. She said although the AP Calculus book has 5986 pages, our book is longer and we're only on page 1!"
