    in celebration of the holidays

To me, Christmas means warm fires, books, blankets, playing Christmas music, Starbuck's, and lots of pictures. On a whim, I think it'd be neat to play in areas I haven't gone before...at least, not very often.

So, effective immediately after Thanksgiving, I will:

    1. Play Christmassy music in university/sundance square sometime soon.
[either one...although sundance might be way more fun.
    maybe i'll just do both.]

    2. wander downtown after thanksgiving and just take pictures.

    3. find a new coffee shop every two weeks until Christmas. Starbuck's doesn't count.

  • lions and tigers and bears, oh my!

    greetings
yeah, it's been a while. Facebook is my homebase, more or less, and I just don't really write all that much here anymore. There's not much to rant about in my life these days, and what little does exist, isn't worth ranting about on xanga. Besides, it's not like i've been that much of a ranter anyway.

    writer's block

I feel as though I've lost my touch.

    No, I don't have nerve-damage.
But I'm starting to wonder why it is that I can't seem to write as easily like I used to. It's not that I can't really write anymore, but really! I used to be able to sit down for an hour with a pen and some music and spit out something that passed for mid-level intelligence and creativity.

Now, I think I've still got the intelligence portion nailed, but my ability to remain comfortable with it is fading [and thus, my creativity].
But next semester starts my beginning as an English minor, so maybe with more practice, I might be able to recover.

PHC people, don't hurt me, but the more I think about it, the more I really miss the essay assignments of 8-12 pages. My English prof is shocked when a student turns in more than a page and a half for an essay...I'm shocked when I turn in less than four.

    in other news
I've discovered that country music isn't really all that bad. [ok, who are you and what have you done with rachel?]
Seriously, though, I like the values in the music, the accent doesn't bother me too badly after a while, and as long as the "pick-up" and "trailer" are not the subjects of the song, I can handle it with the windows down, 45-50 mph, and sunshine.
Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, Taylor Swift, and Rascal Flats are favorites.

you say autumn, i say fall
Fall has come to Texas Wesleyan, and by that, I mean that we have weather down in the seventies on a regular basis, and the leaves have changed colors. In many cases, there was a two week period where the leaves were a different color, and now they're pretty much gone. I'd love to capture it digitally, but unfortunately, my casio lithium battery died, and so casio is graciously shipping me a replacement for free. I do my camera.
Anyway, mid-terms have come and gone, and it feels so weird to realize that thanksgiving is next week. Not only is thanksgiving next week, but i'm currently writing an article for the Rambler about Christmas traditions. [currently procrastinating]. I'm saving some mulah for shopping Black Friday [black friday because most of the time, corporations are in the red, but because they do so much business on the day after t-giving, they go in the black. - courtesy Dr. Bell] and will hopefully get to go shopping. My car is making funny noises again, though, so we'll see. :sigh:

  • life as i see it

every great once in a while, i have one of those irresistible urges
    to sit back and ruminate for a moment or two on life in general;
marvel on the how, wonder about the when, ponder the why.

the feeling is usually brought on by a la madeline's setting,
a hemmingway quote, or a picture of a fall leaf.

    amused ramblings

Sometimes, I think that life exists for only two purposes; one of those is our entertainment.

    Jen's visit in sum
When Butlers are combined with Hortons, random vowels are added to words, conversations are carried on even in sleep, visits are made to places like Aledo, Barnes and Noble and the Apple Store, and many adventures are had and survived.
In short, it was five days of wild and crazy fun.

    moving in.
Wal Mart, the Container Store, and two trips to Target were sufficient to equip me for college life. My family successfully moved me in on Friday, and I think my suitemates and I shall get along well. Three of us have the same bed-spread, and one of the girls brought DDR. I don't think that equals soul-mates for life, but it has a nice beginning.
After a chat with the chair of my Poli Sci dept, I discovered that I'd be able to compete in a couple of activities despite freshman status. So for those of you who compete in either Moot Court or Model Arab League, I'll be seeing you around, I'm quite certain.

    canoing
Canoing was nothing short of interesting, random, and quite exhausting. Oh and funny. Really truly very funny.

words for the wise: sunscreen, water bottles, and even numbers.

    life as I see it

So yes, one of the two purposes to life must be entertainment. The other is quite serious. At least no one has 60-80 kids anymore. There may be nothing new under the sun, but that's only because Solomon didn't live before the flood. I'm going to miss not working at the museum in two weeks, but school will be a new and exciting adventure. I'm actually, and quite literally, living on the other side of the tracks, but I think I'm going to like it after all; especially when it rains.

ipush. i pull. together, we make idoor.
I still have to move my actual clothes out there tomorrow morning. This translates into a very frantic and insistent call for laundry.

    hi-dee-ho?

About Me

  • it was a pleasant cafe, warm and clean and friendly, and i hung up my old water-proof on the coat rack to dry and put my worn and weathered felt hat on the rack above the bench and ordered a cafe au lait. the waiter brought it and i took out a notebook from the pocket of the coat and a pencil and started to write. -hemingway
