So this was a paper I really enjoyed writing. Just felt like posting it.

THE IMPORTANCE OF INTELLECTUAL FREEDOM

In the world today we as Americans, put a great emphasis on freedom, whether it be of speech, of religion, or from oppression. The driving force underlining these is the one freedom to think independently; an intellectual freedom. From an economic perspective, intellectual freedom, or property, is extremely important in that it promotes business ventures, progress and growth, and diversity, which in turn improves the quality of life in the world to some degree overall.

Private property is a characteristic of the market system in economics that extends to intellectual property such as ideas for songs, novels, software, etc.  The importance of this concept in our lives is then, that new ideas and concepts can enrich our lives through its notion and physical creation. The rapid progress of technology in the past 2 decades has completely been set into overdrive where almost everything that used to only be in movies actually exist now. A “portable” phone, a credit card, the Nintendo Wii all would have been science fiction about a century ago, but today they are almost everyday terms, except the last one perhaps. Through the internet, many processes such as doing taxes, paying off bills, applying to colleges, and purchasing clothes or gadgets have literally put the world at your fingertips. Bill Gates III has become the world’s richest man through starting with a company he built from the ground up and has continued to expand to this very day. The name Microsoft is widely renowned for being at the top of almost anything computer related. He could not have possibly made it that far from almost nothing if it had not been for the freedom to build on his intellect. New innovations are spurring up almost everyday and the ease of acquiring a patent or copyright for each project is easily attainable through the freedom of enterprise. If all of these thoughts were oppressed or just kept inside, we wouldn’t have half of the comforts of life we have today.

With the freedom to franchise on your own thoughts and ideas, a world of business venturing options is open to you. Within your interest, you can expand the mindset of art through conception or expression. A knack for words may land you a profession in literature writing novels, short stories, or a sort of connoisseur in various rhetoric techniques. The numerous genres of music present today mark the thriving 21st century music industry’s freedom of expression. Food as the sort of art/business it presently is is made apparent through the fact that presentation plays a key role in the patronage of customers along with price. New sorts of “fusion” style restaurants, largely popular in California, are emerging through mixing Oriental-Spanish tastes and sport bar/ family style establishments to cater to a larger crowd. Unique architecture found everywhere around the world reflects the diversity of intellect that goes into each institution on the designers’ part per the investors’ request to make their establishment unforgettable, thus promoting thriving business. An eye for fashion could have you designing clothes that are distinctly yours and highly profitable. Basically anything you have a passion for can earn you a cozy sum. It only takes an idea to spark a difference.

As America is a sea of diversity with its variety of different backgrounds, it is a given that an abundance of new ideas and a greater knowledge of different cultures by mere exposure blooms every day. A better understanding of the cultural composition of a nation can improve its economy in ways that maximize profitable products and minimize production of things that may not be too popular or practical in a specific region. The freedom to learn about various religions and cultures, aside from your own, gives you an advantage in understanding your consumer pool and thus allowing you to refine the use of your resources to solely cater to their preferences and maximizing profits. In this way magazines and newspapers include subjects of interest on a regional basis. This intellectual expansion will ultimately lead to the development of an economy on a grandeur scale. It will allow the economy to thrive not only regionally, but globally which will expand its market greatly.

The importance of intellectual freedom draws on the fact that everyone is free to think what they want in their heads, but to think it aloud is rather a more risqué notion. To be able to act upon one’s ideas and understanding is to be able to make a difference. The benefit of this from the economic perspective would be that one could be successful in any trade so long as the execution is permitted and it is a profitable venture.  It allows for new innovations that can increase the quality of life in many ways, shapes, or forms. It provides for a more informed public with the intellectual freedom correlated into the freedom of the press. Intellectual freedom acts as a basis and hope for prospective pioneers in years to come.

I'm going to start posting some songs on here every so often. So stay tuned if you're interested.

So ringing in the new year was fun @ the casa de Eduardos! We got gipped of a countdown, so we did our own haha.. We jiggled noisily to grow. We shot off alien fireworks that wizzed around the sky and shot bak at u like something from a sci-fi movie! We shot roman candles out of our arms. We lit up the skies with our mortars and misc. It was a great night filled with laughter, pictures, noises, and vibrating surprises... So the great warm way we exited an incredible year to enter a new uncharted year, is the way i intend to end this chapter of '05 and this year! 2006 BEWARE THE YEAR OF THE DOG!! *howl*
