Good Morning,

My friend Alina and I are reading through Lord of the Rings- aloud (she has read it before).  At first I wasn't too sure about the book, but now I have really enjoyed the journey.  Now we are in the last book: The Return of the King.  In the previous book, there was this one really dark part where Frodo and Sam are climbing up this dark, stinking stairway, Cirith Ungol, lead by their guide Gollum.  This was a really hard section to get through, because it was so dark and seemed to go on and on!!  But in the end Frodo and Sam escape from the dark area and break free into the light of day.  Tolkien writes,

"Come!" cried Frodo. "On! On!"  Wild joy at their escape from the very mouth of despair suddenly filled all his mind.  His head swirled as with a draught of potent wine.  He sprang out, shouting as he came.

Last night as I lay in bed, thinking about certain difficulties of late, I thought about this section.  And how I know that if I just stay the course in these dark times, by God's grace I will break free and feel the warm sun once again on my face. And a little like Frodo, I want to come out shouting!!

Life is not merely the sum of our experiences, but the way in which we have allowed these experiences to change and mold us into the image of our divine Creator, the King of kings.

Have a good day…

A Poem

Years come and years go,

Changing seasons and changing stars

Swirling, swirling, spinning, spinning,

yet some things remain the same.

Love, laughter, and a childlike faith

Never cease to stop the hand of Time,

We stand and pause.

Looking out to horizons unknown

With dreams fufilled and a heart that is full,

He is there in the misdt of this

Watching, caring, and guiding,

Leading us to a better awakenings than

Any enchanted dream.

This is a poem I wrote today in memory of my own recent struggles with life, and my encounters with God, and the gentle questions of a friend:

Waves of Light

As I stand on the edge of reality

Waves of light wash over me.  I hear

The hiss and sting of past things

Resounding in my ear. I push

Them out. I look up and cry to the One who

Truly sees.  He reminds me that He

Is the one who flung the stars in the

Sky and knows each one by name. He

Knows each grain of sand and said to the waters

"Here you shall stop and go no further".

And then He smiles, looks at me and says

"Be still my child and know that I am".

I am He that watches you,

I am He who numbered the hairs on your head,

I am He who created life and said

Here you shall stop, and go no further.

So be still, and know that

I AM.
