I never update twice in one day but now I’m on a mission and need feedback from you guys. As you can tell by the text added to the top of the site, I am going to start asking around and gathering people’s views on the “pro-ana culture”. Most people would say that having a "tips and tricks" site makes me pro-ana but since I myself am not pro-ana it makes me wonder how many other people are accused of being pro but aren’t. I have a lot to say on the matter but it’s all useless unless I have both sides of the argument. I’m hoping people will actually reply with answers that are worth reading and not just some random comeback as if I’m attacking their views by not agreeing with them.

Here are a few questions to take into consideration if you’re having trouble getting your feelings into words.

  • What do you think it means to be pro-ana?
  • Do you think that pro-ana’s really have eating disorders?
  • Who is hurt/helped by pro-anorexia?

If you’re offended by what I say in one of my comments there’s a 90% chance that you took it differently than I meant it to be taken. Comment me either way.

I don't really knwo what I am.. I just know that I hate it when 230 pound girls say they're "ANA."

The word is getting misused, and I really dislike that....

But pro-ana doesn't offend me.

hey. okay well first off im not pro-ana. and im slightly confused by what most people mean when they say pro-ana. i think that if ur fat, or chubby, and u lose weight by doing fasts or exercising, then u are dieting, i dont think that means u have an eating disorder. if u binge, u dont have an eating disorder, its called pigging out. if u purge after i dont even think much of that, but if u cant stop urself, then its verging on actaully being a disorder. i think that once u cant stop, and are having actual health problems then u have an eating disorder. but all the girls pages who i have seen who actaully seem to have serious eating disoders dont call themselves pro-ana. most of them write on their pages, for stupid pro-ana girls to not visit their page, because they arent ana. i think people who are pro-ana, are fakes or liars, but at the same time i really could care less whether girls want to give themselves fake diseases or not.

2) i thnk most pro-ana's do hve an ed, 'cuz othrwse, hw would thy knw so much?

3) i thnk pro-ana helps ppl who already hve an ed 'cuz it gves thm a place 2 go 2 find othrs like thm tht thy cn relate2 and stuff, but hurts those tht don't hve an ed yt 'cuz it mght end up mkng thm hve one...

No problem.. I feel that the "pro-ana" community is trying to glamorize eating disorders. As someone struggling with a disorder Im really ashamed of it.. Its a disease and thanks to some of these people its not taken seriously. Its almost like saying pro-aids or pro cancer.. seriously its not a choice or a lifestyle, its like a state of mind. Im on xanga because my eating habits take up my life. Honest truth.. they always have.. but i could never ever talk to any of my friends or family about it.. I think anyone supporting pro ana is just an attention seeking asshole. Its harsh but true.

To me pro ana means someone who promotes anorexia as something glamorous and fun, which actually anorexia is the exact opposite of that, it's complete hell and torture. I am not pro and never will be, I would never ever want anyone to suffer from what I do. It boggles my mind when I see girls say "I want to anorexic to look like Nicole or Mary-Kate because that's what's in."

I think it's quite a touchy subject to say that pro-anas don't suffer from the real disease or have an eating disorder, I just think they're open and encourage other girls/guys to do the same. It makes me think for a while though about it....

I think it just depends on our minds if anorexia hurts or helps, some cases it hurts us, makes us depressed, sad, lonely because we still see fat in our mirrors [yet were actually quite thin in some cases] and in other cases happy and cheerful cause we lost weight and look thin and we actually see it.

What's your opinions though?? Love to here them. =]

Hi.  Well, I'm not pro-ana... but I have nothing against people that are.

1) I feel that being pro-ana means you support getting an eating disorder.  I don't really know that much about it, though.

2) I think that some may have eating disorders, but definetly not all of them.

3) I don't think anyone is helped by it... but plenty are hurt by it by actually developing eating disorders with the help of pro-anas.

hey hunnn ...thx for the comment ! ..my opinion on pro - ana is if people are ana and need supporrt to help them along , then i think it is a great thing , it helps people feel they're not alone in the world that other people are going throught the same thing as them , but if someone is just trying to lose a few lbs and looks for tips / tricks on pro ana websites i dont think its right , i feel like pro- ana sites are only good for people who are already ana ...if new people are exposed to it , its not so good ..i think they're are pros and cons to it , i dont't support newly developed ed's but for people who already have them it helps ... stay stronG <3

I'm not pro ana, and would never encourage anyone to get into this hell. I don't think you can learn to have an ED, it's something deep rooted that comes from other emotional issues.

Girls who are like 'ana loves me' make me sick. Lol.

im not pro-ana. i think that the term makes eds seem less of a problem than they actually are. im not skinny but i restrict and exercise as much as poss, and purge at least 5 times a week. i have lost over a stone in the past 9ish months...its not sumthing im proud of and it shud not b glamorised (im ednos btw). people think an ed is the easy way 2 lose weight, but it is one of the hardest things 2 deal with i hav ever come across. u dont want 2 have an ed. simple. i think some pro anas may have eds but, the vast majority dont. but i think they kinda want one. because the pro ana community means they r part of sumthing world wide that is secret. i do think having an xanga account is v different 2 being pro ana tho. coz sum of us really do want support now, not coz we want 2 carry on but coz we have 2 coz this is what we have become and now the ed is part of us...screwed i no!

so ye, im not pro ana.

Hey

Got ur comment a lon while back..but didn't have time to get back to u until now.

Honestly I wish I never had an ED. But I do.

I'm currently seeking help for it. I'm more Mia then Ana...And I think neither should be thought of as a positive thing...It makes me feel horrible, I'm only happy when The scale drops or when I have the thin empty feeling...which the happiness does not last long it fades quickly as I also deal with Depression...I'm not sure how much of that is ED. inflicted.........

However I give support to ppl like me dealing with this...fact of life and talk about my daily stuggles on Xanga it helps me deal with it a bit better, because ppl on here can relate. Pro Ana or Mia does not offend me, Since At times I feel empowered by it.

Thats my take

i'm not pro ana.
because i think it means to encourage eating disorders.
which is ridiculous.
no one should wish to be anorexic.
i do offer support but not that kind.

i thinkthere are several definitions to pro-ana one is someone who supports ana as a lifestyle instead of an eating disorder. and the other is promoting people to get help but still supporting them in their eating disorder. i mean, i dont know....i have no opinion really. lol...im a pretty open minded person. i just try to understand everyones point of view and stuff.
