The Reverend Derek Rigby donned a wig and some torn clothes and
surrounded himself with lager cans and syringes in the church doorway
on Sunday morning.

Most of the congregation at the Trinity Methodist Church in Prestatyn, Denbighshire, ignored the intruder.

Mr Rigby said most were "embarrassed" by their behaviour when he finally revealed himself during the service.

He said: "I couldn't take the car in case anyone spotted it, so I
walked from my home to the church. That was interesting, because my
neighbours avoided me.

"I had bought clothes from a charity shop - which were immaculate - so
I had to dirty them up a bit and I poured a bit of lager on them.

"When I got to the church I arranged a couple of cans and some plastic
syringes, without needles, which I have at home for the dog. It gave
the impression of a real down and out."

He added: "None of them spoke to me, apart from a few who told me off
and told me to get away from their cars, which they kept checking.

"They all ignored me."

He said: "Some were very embarrassed. Nobody was angry with me but they were shocked they had ignored me in the way they had.

"They could have given me a cup of coffee.

"I was surprised rather than disappointed. Some people said they wished
I had been there because I would have known how to deal with the
situation."

Mr Rigby said he had intended to communicate a "serious message of
acceptance in an emotive way", and used the example of the Disciples
not recognising Jesus on the road to Emmaus after his resurrection.
..."
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/wales/north_east/7497411.stm
/nothing like an extra dose of being self righteous on the way to church.

of course, had he really needed some extra attention, he could have just walked out with a wafer.
nothing like death threats filled with the love of jesus!

just keep on revising'

"...
President Bush was at Monticello for a 4th of July celebration and
he delivered an address. But it's quite telling that his speechwriters,
in quoting Jefferson, cut out an anti-religious statement from a long
and famous quote. Here's the way Bush put it:

Thomas Jefferson understood that these rights do not belong
to Americans alone. They belong to all mankind. And he looked to the
day when all people could secure them. On the 50th anniversary of
America's independence, Thomas Jefferson passed away. But before
leaving this world, he explained that the principles of the Declaration
of Independence were universal. In one of the final letters of his
life, he wrote, "May it be to the world, what I believe it will be --
to some parts sooner, to others later, but finally to all -- the Signal
of arousing men to burst the chains, and to assume the blessings and
security of self-government."

Now let's look
at the full quote, including the part that was cut out. This is from a
letter he wrote to Roger Weightman reflecting on the upcoming 50th
anniversary of the Declaration of Independence (which, it turns out,
was the day both he and John Adams died):

May it be to the world, what I believe it will be, (to some
parts sooner, to others later, but finally to all,) the signal of
arousing men to burst the chains under which monkish ignorance and superstition had persuaded them to bind themselves, and to assume the blessings and security of self-government.

Jefferson made many such statements, of course. Clearly they are
best edited out by those who advocate nothing if not monkish ignorance
and superstition.
...."
http://scienceblogs.com/dispatches/2008/07/bush_edits_out_jeffersons_reli.php
/Pfft. A web of deceit and hatred had closed around
him. As the sixty-nine year old man faced the Inquisition on this day, June 22, 1633, he hoped to get at
least two changes in the statement his judges insisted he sign. "Do not
make me say I have not been a good Catholic," he pleaded,
"for I have been one and will remain one no matter what my enemies
say. And I will not say that I intended to deceive anyone, especially
with the publication of my book. I submitted it in good faith to the
church censors and printed it only after legally obtaining a
license."

The judges agreed. They rewrote the words of his "confession"--as
they should have been. For, as Galileo knew, most of the men who were
sentencing him held his same opinions--that the earth spun on its axis
and orbited the sun.

With the new injunction before him, Galileo knelt and repeated the
words demanded of him. He was strongly "suspected of heresy." He
had "held and believed that the Sun is the center of the world and
immovable and that the Earth is not the center and moves..."

Galileo then signed another statement. "I, the said Galileo Galilei,
have abjured [renounced], sworn, promised and bound myself as above;
and in witness of the truth thereof I have with my own hand subscribed
the present document of my abjuration and recited it word for word at
Rome, in the convent of the Minerva, this twenty-second day of June,
1633."
....."
http://chi.gospelcom.net/DAILYF/2002/06/daily-06-22-2002.shtml
/Teach that controversy!

tees from: http://controversy.wearscience.com/
you know you want one.

could be a while.

remember that guy?

"...

President George W Bush has enlisted British special forces in a final attempt
to capture Osama Bin Laden before he leaves the White House.

Defence and intelligence sources in Washington and London confirmed that a
renewed hunt was on for the leader of the September 11 attacks. “If he
[Bush] can say he has killed Saddam Hussein and captured Bin Laden, he can
claim to have left the world a safer place,” said a US intelligence source.
