  • To my dearest 1994 Honda

Not too long ago I got rid of my trusty sidekick that rode with me throughout my formative years in college.  I had the pleasure of knowing it from the 93,458th mile up to the 149,566th mile, but I never slowed myself down to tell Amy how much I really cared.  Here is goes:

Not only did she get me to campus from my parent's house, I like to believe it was the trusty friend of numerous others throughout the 4 years of those 46,108 miles driven.

I immediately found a good home for it on the penthouse suite of the parking lot across from my dorm.  I'm sure the countless starry nights I walked around campus, Amy comfortably enjoyed the view of the entire campus and kept watch for my return.

Amy brought the best out of everyone, especially on several spring breaks like the one to Colorado:

    or to Memphis:

On the times we drove alone back home for the summer or a random weekend Amy wasn't the jealous type either when I sought other company for those lonely trips:

Amy was on equal footing when she either roamed through the cornfields of the Midwest or the big city with some other friends at the wheel:

Unfortunately, she was roughed up a few times, both on the front and the back by careless drivers, though never by me as some may have you think.

All in all, there were some bad times, but definitely a lot more good times.  I'll never forget!

    The Three Questions

    Tolstoy

I found a good book last week while browsing the children's section of Barnes and Noble searching for a book my nephew might like.  Can't say I was looking for something in particular but definitely something with more meaning beyond the Golden Rule.  I found this short book based on a story by the Russian novelist, Leo Tolstoy.  The best thing about looking for children's books is that you can read it in less than 5 minutes.

The story is about three questions that I think almost everyone finds themselves stuck in throughout their lives.  In the end, the story is wonderfully pleasing (you can't go wrong with turtles and pandas as characters) and provides simples answers to the three questions.  It's got zen mixed in with morality, but more importantly it gives a quick reminder to cherish the now.  Not in the 'carpe diem' go skydiving sort of way, but rather make whatever moment you're in the best it can be.

All I know is that this weekend I had a lot of fun rolling around a dirty floor playing with dozens of action figures, a Hotwheels and Jenga blocks with my niece and nephew.
