| Random thoughts...
Plus ca change, plus ca la meme chose, or in other words, things don't really change as much as you think...
SIGNS is a very good movie, IMHO, and the best "bump in the night" thriller I've seen in a long time...
MINORITY REPORT... also very good. story, production values, direction, acting, the whole 9 yards...
8 LEGGED FREAKS made me laugh AND jump, sometimes together...
SPIDER-MAN lived up to the hype...
Getting married for the third time; as they say, third time's the charm...who really says that, anyway? (In this case, it really appears to be true...)
The SUPERMAN comics continue to enthrall, particularly the latest sequence involving an "alternate Krypton"... and Supes gets to keep Krypto. a boy's dream come true...
STAR TREK: NEMESIS.. the trailer looks great, though we know how trailers can set up for disappointments. I'm enough of a died in the wool Trekker(ie) that I'll probably love it warts and all... And if you read a review of it based upon the reviewer seeing a DVD of a "rough cut" of the movie, send that site a long letter about copyright laws and the unethical use of bootleg materials...
S'all for now...be well, y'all... | | |
| FILM REVIEW: LILO AND STITCH
Go to see it. It's REALLY good.
What, you want more?
Okay, it's a solid story about a little girl who needs a friend and the destructive little alien who doesn't know it at first but needs one just as much. They both find what they need, after much craziness and mayhem. (It's PG, not G, which makes it unusual for a Disney film.) The animation is beautiful, especially the 2/3's of the film in Hawaii, and the characterizations are all spot on.
Go see the film. You don't have to have a kid if you're an adult, just go anyway.
It helps if you like Elvis, but it's not necessary.
Go. Don't wait. Go. It's the best Disney animated film since CINDERELLA. (Okay, all you LION KING or BEAUTY AND THE BEAST lovers, don't flame me for that, just go see the movie.)
You'll love it. I promise.

| I had to suspend one of my staff the other day. They hadn't been performing up to the department's standards - and they'd already received a written warning which made it very clear what would happen if they didn't improve - and I suspended them for a week. Everything documented and by the book. No Human Resources Director could want more documentation. The staff member went to the VP of Operations and complained. So I spent a good hour this morning, after a day off, making SURE that I'd done the right thing. I did. My staff member has been slacking off, blaming it on an "an ongoing cold." She doesn't understand that when she slacks off, customers suffer. (She's a photographer, paid to take pictures of customers vehicles for sale.) She only knows she's going to be missing a week of work, meaning a whole week's paycheck. She also doesn't understand that this company, like ANY company, has the right to set standards of its employees and expect those employees to meet or exceed those standards, and that when an employee falls below those standards, the company has a right to exercise some sort of disciplinary action. She believes that as long as she shows up for work, she deserves a paycheck. It doesn't work like that, at least not in my department, where my staff are paid per performance. If someone doesn't perform, they don't get paid. Listen to me, I sound like a manager. That's because I am. And this is the part of the job I hate. Disciplining a staff member who doesn't think they're doing anything wrong. Personally, I'd rather spend more of my time like I did on my day off, in a movie theater with some truly escapist film making. (In this case, SPIDER-MAN.) Loved it. You'll believe a man can swing from a web. But dutie calls, and I knew the job was dangerous when I took it, so I gotta be ready to dish out the discipline when it's necessary. I think that chicken farm in Ojai is sounding better every day. | | |
| I set this Web page up shortly after 9/11. I never got any response from it, and that's OK. It's only been 8 months, and I think it's still worth keeping up...
