Heart of Service"Pray for me that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly as I should." Ephesians 6:19-20

Sucker Punched...

So yesterday morning I show up at Critter Camp with Rocky to drop him off for doggie daycare...yes he goes to daycare, it's a long story that will have to be explained another day though! :) Anyway, as soon as we walk in the door the lady is like, awwwww....Rocky needs a brother. I was like, what are you talking about. Then she started telling me about this little black corgi that they had that had been abandoned and if it didn't get adopted by Friday they were going to have to take it to the pound. Well, of course, I was sold, however, I did what any good wife would do and went home and talked about it with my husband when he woke me up at lunch. Of course he was all for it, so when I went back to pick up Rocky, who was soaking wet from playing in the swimming pool all afternoon, I signed all the papers and paid my $80 and will go pick him up tomorrow afternoon. I'm excited for Rocky to have a playmate and I pray that he is as well behaved as Rocky. He seemed to be when I met him yesterday. He's really cute. We are now trying to think up a name for him. They people at the kennel were calling him Handsome, but Billy is not a fan of that one and so he's working on thinking up a new name.

As a side note: Please be praying for one of Billy's players. His name is Tommy. He broke his leg fairly severely last night at practice and had to have surgery on it. I went and checked on him this morning before I came home from work and he's doing good, just in lots of pain and pretty bummed. He's a senior and definitely had a chance to play in the NFL. I don't know how that will all play out now. Also be praying for his family as they travel over here to be with him. He is from Hawaii and so they have a long road just to get here.

Well, it's time to take my grandma rollers out of my hair and finish getting ready for work. Later!

New Blog

Don't anyone die of shock, but yes, I am actually updating. Thanks to lots of prodding from my dear friends Courtney and Melissa, you are getting another brief glimpse into the Best household. To pick up where I left off, we had a blast in Colorado with all of the other coaches and their wives. We went whitewater rafting again and it was great. Billy and I left a day early so we went and camped out at Red River for a couple of hours and then after the torrential rains and cold temperatures that we were not prepared for, we packed up and went and stayed in Pueblo. The next morning we got up and went into Colorado Springs and toured the Garden of the Gods and looked at Pikes Peak and then we went to the Air Force Academy. We had a lot of fun there and enjoyed getting to look around a ton. That afternoon we went on up to the cabin and spent the rest of the evening hanging out with everyone and then the next day we went to the crazy man's castle and whitewater rafting. I say crazy man b/c he really is. He is totally anti-government. He wants to remove his land from the United States and make it it's own country and he has built this castle (which is beautiful) completely by hand, but it is SO dangerous when you get down to it. There are not handrails anywhere, parts of it shake when you walk through it. It's nuts. After we got done whitewater rafting, we all ate at a park and then most of them went to Cripple Creek to the casino and we went back to the cabin and went fishing. We didn't catch anything, but it was great just to sit there and not do anything. We left early on Sunday to come back and stopped in Channing to visit with the rents for a little bit and pick up Rocky. The next weekend we got to stay home, but we had all the o-line guys over on Saturday for supper. I always love when they come over. It's a blast!!! It cracks me up to watch them eat, b/c they are bottomless pits I swear!! Since then it's pretty much just been work and hanging out at the house and getting to see each other occasionally. The first scrimmage of the year was this past Saturday and it was great to watch football again. I like watching pro, but nothing beats watching college. After the scrimmage, all the full-time coaches from all the sports at WT and their significant others went to a dinner at the president's house. It was a lot of fun and it was amusing to watch some of the other wives, who are not from Texas, and their amazement with the guys cooking meat on pictchforks. We were all sitting at the table talking and they were talking about how at a school in California b/c the traffic is so bad, the coaches sleep in the office from Sunday-Wednesday b/c they don't want to deal with traffic and one of the wives was like, oh no...we would not be doing that. You would be coming home everyday whether you liked it or not and I looked and Billy and said, well, we could handle that babe. I don't get to see you on those days/nights as it is right now, so it wouldn't be any different for us. Everyone started laughing except the one wife and she was like, you really don't get to see him from Sunday through Wednesday and I was like, yeah...and she was like, well why don't you just quit your job and find another one so that you can be home when he is. That's dumb that you aren't at home to spend time with your husband. (might I just add that at this point, I am having to deep breathe and think every thought through before I comment on anything...) I said, well, we wouldn't have survived this summer if I hadn't been working nights, I like my job and don't want to change, and he is only home for about 5-6 hours a night anyway, in which he is asleep all but about 30 minutes of that, so it's not like I would be getting quality time with him anyway. I am off on the nights when he is actually going to be able to be at home during the season and I'll be able to go to all the games, and that is what is important to me. I was so irritated that not only was she ridiculing me in front of an entire table of coaches and their wives, but also that she had the audacity to even say anything in the first place. Yeah, I would love to have a much different schedule and to have the opportunity to be home every night, but you know what, I don't have the opportunity right now and yes, it sucks not ever getting to see my husband, but that's life. We knew it was going to be this way when we started this leg of the journey of life. Anyway...enough about that. The first game of the season is on Thursday Aug. 30. I can't wait. I'm so excited. The guys are coming over for dinner again this Friday I think. It should be interesting. Eppie's wedding shower is on Saturday as is Lora's baby shower. Hopefully I'll have a chance to post pictures from those. Until then...

Six Days!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I'm getting married in six days.  It all seems a little surreal at this point.  I am slightly overwhelmed, but I think that once it gets here I will be better with it all.  I took my bridal portraits today and Carissa and I had a blast!  We of course were good and took the serious/traditional ones for my mom and then we took the fun ones!!  We took some downtown and then we took some out at Cadillac Ranch.  I can't wait to see how they all turn out!
