Hm hm hm. My last entry was in September, and now I hear it's November. That is not perfection.

We finally, finally, finally moved in to our new house on...oh, some time late October. It still seems a bit unreal; for so many months it was just something dangled in front of us, always threatening to be taken away...and now, all of a sudden, it's a reality. Woo-hoo. That sounded like a very sarcastic "woohoo" but I ensure you it was entirely and utterly enthusiastic.

Contrary to what I had expected, I don't miss our old house at all. Sure, I have a lot of memories there, but not all of them are good. It's like...oh look, that crack in the wall is from when Gary threw this, or that broken doorjamb is from when Gary tried to kick it in... So, a new house, ready for new memories. That's exciting.

I had the fortune of being able to visit one of my older sisters last month. I saw, for the first time, my younger nephew, Caleb. He is totally, entirely, unfathomably adorable. I love his dorky little grin and the well-practiced pout of his lower lip. He doesn't have a bratty bone in his body, I tell you. Arrrgh, I could just SQUEEZE him, even though that's incredibly annoying and I always told myself I wouldn't be the aunt to do such a thing. Caleb's older brother, Tommy...oh, my...I don't think he liked me at all. He liked hitting me and telling me with great gusto to GO HOME, and (my personal favorite) tattling on whatever I did. The day after I arrived I was eating breakfast and Tommy ran to Christina and said, "Mom! She's eating!" Ahah. Charming, charming, charming, all around...
It was nice seeing Christina again, and I hope I was some help to her. I didn't help as much as I would have liked to; shortly after arriving I got sick and recovered rather slowly. But yeah. It was nice.

Oh yeahhhhh....I saw The Prestige. I liked it very much. It's one of the few movies I've seen that I haven't read dozens of reviews for...I think, as a result, I enjoyed it even more. And Christian Bale is awesome! I want to watch Batman Begins. >_>

There you have it, my recent life in a nutshell. I would go off on some social commentary or something, but I've already rambled enough. Time to go get some snazzy new layout!

Monday, September 18, 2006

Yesterday Mom casually informed us over lunch that she's going to Israel next year.

    Israel.

Turns out she'd put down a deposit for the trip nearly four months ago, and is just now telling us. And yes, I do have some objections on the matter. Our financial situation is in no ways permitting us to run off to the other side of the world...and secondly...it's Israel. You know, the place that is in no ways very peaceful at this point in time? Yeah, that.

I've heard a lot of Christians arguing about why one should go to Israel. "Don't you trust God?" they demand. "He won't let you get hurt!"

I'm sorry. Where's the Bible say that God will protect us from all harm, even if we throw ourselves into it? It's like what was said to Jesus in the wilderness--"If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written:
‘ He shall give His angels charge over you,’
   and,
‘ In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone."

So, figuratively speaking, are we supposed to be jumping off cliffs and expecting God to catch us?

"Well," others argue, "If you die, it's for a good cause! And you'll be going to Heaven!"

Rubbish. Let's say someone runs off to a war-torn country and gets themselves killed. What about the children left behind, now orphaned? Are they unimportant? And frankly, if I was to die, I'd like to die for a cause more important than a sight-seeing trip.

It's annoying to see people who view Israel as a Mecca, a place to make our holy pilgrimage to and somehow become more spiritual through seeing old sights. Aren't we blessed if we believe without seeing? Will the stones of two thousand years ago teach us some new insight?

Rant over. Now... I don't think wanting to visit Israel is any bad thing. I'd like to myself. But practicality outweighs such desires in the matter, I think. And the arguments some people present are so frustrating and unbiblical that it turns my stomach. Hence the above rant.

That said, we convinced her to not go. She's too dear to me to just sit back submissively while she goes into a place where people are dying every day. The pleasure of the trip is not worth the risks presented.

I don't like Mondays.

Oh ho ho.

Basically -every- possible username has been taken. I kid you not. Everything either profound, poetic, or amusing is unavailable. Hence my VeryEmoUsername. It's a rough translation of "YouBrokeMyLifeAndI'mSoSad." Though, of course, it's quite untrue.

I don't have the time to write anything more exciting than that, I'm afraid. Yes, it's quite a shame...
