  • New and Improved Fiction Friday...

I didn't think I'd have an entry for this Fiction Friday, but I decided to make myself write today.  This is what I came up with.  I'm pleased!

    --------------------

When her back was turned, I silently unwrapped the shining piece of sugar from the crinkly wrapper (something I'd been practicing at home for weeks) and pushed it past my lips.  The sweet citrus taste flooded my mouth as it hit my tongue and started to dissolve.  I shoved the evidence of my disobedience in my pocket, making a deafening crackle in the silent room.  Twenty-six eyes were soon riveted on me.  All was going accordingly to plans.
My arch enemy dropped her chalk into the tray and turned.  "What is going on here?"  Her glare was instantly upon me, freezing me in place.  She was famous for that, and wouldn't I be the hero when I defied that ultimate power?  Her eyes narrowed and she held out her hand, "Give it to me, Thomas."
I shook my head and waited, hoping I hadn't botched this one, too.
She started towards my desk at the back of the room, her chunky heels click-clacking menacingly as she neared.  I panicked and stood up.  It wasn't working!  I had to stall.  I pushed the hatred out of my voice and filled it with the most pitiful tone I could muster under duress.  "Umm...Mrs. Truckenbrod, I don't feel so well."
"Thomas, you don't think I'm going to fall for that twice, do you?"  Her eyes narrowed impossibly more.  I couldn't resist her.
Then, I felt it start working.  The citrus taste faded away and the foam started to build at the back of my tongue.  I clutched my stomach and moaned.
"Oh, what nice theatrics!  I should recommend you to the junior high drama teacher with that kind of skill!"
I just moaned harder, knowing I had ten seconds to kill before I needed to aim.  My stomach could already feel the foam I had swallowed churning.
"Now sit down, Thomas!  I won't have you ruining another of my classes.  Principle Roquet, I'm certain, doesn't want to see you any more than I do!"
And with that, it was finished.  I opened my mouth and let the thick, colorful stream of pizza and fruit cocktail splash down over her white sweater and black dress.  She recoiled and screamed, sending the class into a frenzy.  The look on her face said one thing to me:  Success!

  • What is your favorite summer activity on a low budget?

Reading.  Video Games.  Writing.  Updating.  Oh, and you can't forget checking out joggers.  That doesn't cost anyone anything...except Robb.  Last summer he rearended someone while he was ogling some jogger.  And then right after he got his car back someone came within two inches of rearending him doing the same thing at the same place (but not at the same guy, apparently).

And even though we have a looking-is-fine policy, I told him that it's just his punishment for looking at someone other than me.  Although, I think maybe I told him that while watching a particularly studly man jog by...

I guess it's a pretty popular summer activity!

I just answered this Featured Question, you can answer it too!

  • You Are Not Lost...

I know, I know...big changes here.  I finally decided to jump on board and get a new layout.  The old classic one was good, but I actually like this a little better.  Now I can have a photostrip and a pulse section like everyone else!  Those are two things I've been hurting for lately.

If you see anything that seems amiss, let me know.  And in general, let me know how you feel about the change.  Going back to the old way would be oh-so-easy, so don't be afraid to tell me you hate it.

In other news...my site was apparently in the results of a Google search for "most disturbing places in web."  There you go.

    ***EDIT***

On second look, half of the stuff that's supposed to be here is, in fact, missing.  I'll have to try to figure it out.

    ***Re-EDIT***

Apparently it's all here in the public preview but not in whatever version I was looking at...how very queer.  Let me know if you can't see the pulse and photostrip and all that junk on the sides, please.

  • Photos Delayed...

Here's the issue with showing you photos of my new place:  my computer (the one I upload my photos to) is still not hooked up.  Why, you might ask, after all this time, is your computer not working?  If I could show you photos, you'd understand.  I need to bring my heavy, bulky, filled-to-the-brim-already-with-crap computer desk from home.  This requires that I set aside some time to go down there and get it, and since my mom is the only one allowed to drive her truck, she has to be free as well.

My mom works an assload of hours.  Her free time is scarce.  But on the plus side, she makes her own schedule, so all I would have to do is let her know in advance when I needed the truck.  The problem there is that I don't plan ahead very well.  So...

No computer, no photos, and soon, no battery life in my camera...

What I really mean to say is that I need to stop making excuses and just get it done.

And then you will see our new apartment.

In other news, I am thinking of having a contest.  Would anyone be interested in participating in a contest where they send a photo to me via email and I pick a winner in a certain category?  I think it would be loads of fun!  Anyone?

  • Lunch Break...

I don't really have much to say.  I just wanted to share this momentous occasion with you.

This is the first time in my life I've actually gotten to come home for lunch.  It's great living so close to work!
