I'm not really sure how many of you still read this, but for those of you that do, and those I have not told... I've to a decision that has been very thought out, and very painful for me to make.

This summer, I will not be marching with the GLASSMEN Drum and Bugle Corps of Toledo, OH. Due to financial issues, and personal health issues of my father, I've decided to take this summer off to get my personal affairs in order. I plan on spending quality time with my father (what little I have left) and not have any regrets.

As we journey hand in hand my friend
To the music that will never end
Filled with hopes and dreams we send
Echoing in Time

All through the tears
We faced our fears
In search of strength and truth
And as we grow, we'll always know
We found it in our youth

As the years go by in history
In each other's heart's we'll always be
We sing now as family
To You...
Glassmen.

Sonnet XVII by Pablo Neruda

"I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way

than this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep."

                   I, Chadwycke Smith, hereby retract all statements made about Bob Evans. It turns out, my shitty supervisor got canned for two no call no shows. Now, THIS GUY gets to work 4 nights a week as a host. ONLY as a host too. Last night I did everything by myself (without trainer supervision at least) and didnt make any serious errors other than when I forgot to include a tip on a credit card bill. So other than that, its all good.

                   The SCC Youth Wind Ensemble concert with Dr. Andrew Boysen, Jr. went really well. I pictured a really haughty old guy who was one of those "oh you kids" types. As it turns out, he's only 31. He actually sat with a group of us and chatted like he was one of the gang. It was really cool. He got his conducting doctorate from Eastman, so yeah... we sounded good.

                     Does anyone know of any reputable schools of music around the country who need euphonium players and are handing out free rides? I'm going to need names so I can schedule a college visit.

             Guess who's got two thumbs and was featured on DCI.org yesterday? *points to self* this guy! You can read my full, and as Mike Millhaem put it, "classy and professional" interview here. While you're at it, be sure to check out the full Glassmen 06 press release ( and sweet show logo graphic ) here.

             I still have yet to hear from Perkins or any other place I've applied for that matter. The good news is, I'm gonna actually be getting more hours at Bob's as a host, so my hands won't look like they belong to one of the lepers Christ healed BEFORE they met the Good Shepherd.

            You know how I had that OMEA honor band business last weekend? Yeah, I went to the rehearsal on Saturday. Sunday, however, I was too tired, and needed gas so I didnt go. Take that District XII!

Yep. My life is rullll boring.

I love you.
