My arm popped back in after 10min.
April 3rd: I had my Legal Psych midterm
April 5th: I had my Social Psych midterm
April 6th: A Ford Explorer crossed my lane to exit at a 90* angle in front of me, and I crashed into it.
April 9-13: Spring Break couldn't drive anywhere or do the things I planned on doing.
April 16th: I dislocated my arm going into the pool again, but my arm didn't pop back in the socket. I had to painfully get out of the pool, get dressed, walk to the health clinic in school, and wait for a doctor

[In the Exam Room]
The doctor looks and feels my left arm, he says he will have to manually put it back into place. I say "alright". So I hold on to the bed's rails and bite my teeth. And didn't work but it F***ing hurt. then he gets a towel to slide under my arm, and says he's going to try again. I say "alright". So I get ready again. It didn't work again. then he tells me he's gonna need another man to help. In the meantime, he gives me a shot of Valium for the pain (which I appreciate.) The valium only makes me sleepy, and the pain is keeping me up. he comes back with a woman, and she helps me lay down (which hurt my arm) and then holds me down while the doctor forces my arm again. It didn't work. So he leaves to look for a man to help. he comes back and looks at my arm and is still confident on forcing my arm back into place, then a nurse gives me another shot of Valium. doesn't help the pain. The doctor comes back with a man (*finally). they help me sit up (which hurt), tell me to bend my knees and hold my left knee with my left arm (hurting) I finger my way up my leg to wrap my arm around my knee. Then I hold the rail with my right arm, the man holds my torso from my right, and the doctor pulls the towell up and my arm out. NOTHING. it didn't work, in fact, I felt my skin burning. Now the doctor decides to give me an IV. it must have been the valium in me cuz i tell him "oh yeah just wrap that rubber band around me and flick my vein, the vein will just pop up, just watch, I've seen my dentist find my veins really easily" iono why i said that. anyway, the doctor gives me a shot of Valium through the IV. by now I have been in that exam room for 4hours. My arm in pain, I finally sleep. When I wake up another man is with the doctor, they help me sit up tell me to wrap my arm around my knee, and they pull again. It still didn't work. He tries again, and nothing. Then he just checks my arm to see how much I can move it. I can twist my wrist, I could move my elbow, I could move my arm forward, but not out. then he moves my arm back and *click. I tell him "Oh that felt good", then he moves it back more and *click. I tell him "Oh yeah, I think you put it back into place"

I got a sling, got picked up, went home, ate a Chicken Bake from Costco, took some Vicodin from my wisdom tooth visit, and slept till this morning. I missed my first class, and had to walk with my arm in a sling to the shuttle stop.

I'm getting X-rayed tomorrow.

this is the 4th time my arm dislocated from its socket. the first two happen last year on my first snowboard trip.

Saturday, March 24, 2007

Why didn't anybody recommend this movie to me? I was so afraid of stalling, but I didn't. after getting off the stop and go traffic on the freeway, I took to the streets trying to find the EA building. Let me tell you that the street signs in that area are only visible in the day time. I've been there before and I had an easy time finding that place, but at night time (especially in my unfamiliar car) I was lost. So at some point I decided to go the other way. And I found the street i needed and got to the EA building where my friend works at. I get the two games and easily get on the freeway going back to Daly City (DC).

going up 101North was a bitch driving stick, but I liket it. Again i was so afraid of stalling, but i didn't. This time however, traffic was worse. I had a hard time getting to the fast lane, but i was calm. I had Marvin Gaye on MP3 playing through my stereo. And then I had Michael Jackson. I was just cruisin' with my window down, and volume set to 26. I love drivin'. All I need is someone in the passenger seat to give suggesting glances while having Barry White in the background.

So I finally get to the left lane on 380 to 280, and no one wants the left lane. "WTF" i wonder, "is there a cop around?" so i check...check back...check sides....check front....*clutch to 5th... and vrrooommm. so i get home, and find parking quickly (a miracle) and think "damn I need to get better".

*I'm getting the hang of the blip, and downshifting. (thanks Marcos)

Saturday, February 24, 2007

Alright, I've been driving stick three nights already, and I am confident in my driving. Although I still need to learn how to donwshift effectively, I am proud to inform everyone that I can now prevent the car from stalling -- even when I almost stall. Hills are challenging, and I still haven't driven in the rain. I don't think I will want to even try driving in the rain uphill; but if i'm on a hill and rain starts to pour down, you should all feel confident that I will give it my best in being safe, aware, and enthusiastic in tackling that beast.

For anyone intimidated by manual transmission, driving on the freeway is easy because the gears are at 4th or 5th. Its the low gears that are tricky. Starting to move is and shifting to second is the hardest (in my opinion so far). But i am getting better fast. Just imagine yourself with the three pedals (clutch, brake, and gas). you're pressing clutch and brake all the way, then clutch and a little of gas, then a little clutch and a little gas, and finally just gas. Now picture yourself shifting. From 1st gear afterjust gas, press clutch and let go of gas a bit, now shift to second, then let go of clutch and give some more gas. After you've done that take care of the wheel and shift the same way to third when the engine sounds overworked. After you can see yourself doing this, all you need is on the road test. Practice makes perfect.

Sunday, February 18, 2007

I got the honda civic ex.

I drove it today...and, damn. I suck.

I started my lessons in Daly City, and the car kept stallin'. But that's okay, it was the very beginning. Then I went on the freeway. I love it. Driving stick FAST is so much fun. Although the civic is stock, I still loved driving it. I got off around the Mission, and that's when frustration hit. From stop to gas, I kept stalling. My friend Mark kept trying to put clutch, brake, and gas into perspective. But there is a difference between saying and doing -- I tried anyways. I then went to Noe valley (where there are steep hills). I was glad no one was driving around there, cuz I would've held all them back. I was proud of being able to brake every time the car stalled cuz those hills are steep. On the way down I only stalled once. Downhill is so much easier, I barely have to do anything. Finally Mark got sick of me stalling, so we switched. We went to a bar called "Toronado" in the Haight to meet some ppl. They drank some barley wine, and I felt left out cuz I still wanted to drive. When the conversations died, Mark and I decided to leave. I started the car, backed up, and drove off w/o stalling. I decided to tackle the Twin Peaks route to DC through Market, so I made my way. I didn't stall. As I gained confidence, took more risk. I loved it. Once I got to the end of Market and up the mountain, I sped on up, remembering that I need to let the gas go, press clutch, shift, let go of the clutch and floor it. I loved it. I got home w/o any trouble (mostly because the rest of the way was downhill) but I need a lot of practice b4 i take Tyler in the car w/ me. Hopefully i can stop stalling soon so i can practice my route to Tyler's school -- it is the only time i drive.
