H'oky doky, For the past week, I've been extremely busy with all sorts of work. On Monday and Tuesday, I did nothing but work with wood. See, Dad decided to have some tree cut out, so he hires this guy to cut 'em down. Guess who was hired to haul the cut stuff around? Heh heh, me. What the guy did was cut the trees down, then he cut them into sections so we can use them for bonfires. What I did was put as much logs as I could into our tractor bucket (we used the tractor because where they were cut, and where they were going was quite a ways) Example, he cut this tree down and sectioned it, and I was supposedly driving the down the driveway to come at it from below.

I'm about to turn to the right onto a little dirt and grass road you can't see. (that's Penny in the grass there)

Kate and Jesse camping, and logging 003

Here you can see that the majority of the tree fell down to the road.

This is an average load of wood.

I just backed up onto the driveway, and you can see how the road lies next to the driveway. <grins> You can also see the tracks the tractor made just by driving on the grass.

Penny La Pooch for some reason loves big loud machinery, like the mower, Grandad's truck, and the tractor. I keep asking myself, "Is she sticking her tongue out at me?"

Kate and Jesse camping, and logging 033

The only thing I didn't like about all this, was this (look down) hill. Doesn't look too bad does it? Well...you try walking up and down it carrying three or five large logs. The hard part is not getting down the hill, that's easy. Still standing at the bottom is hard. Underneath all those loose branches and limbs was a lot of loose dirt, which made the whole hill seem to slide sometimes. I slipped more than once, and always I fell on some branch or limb, sheesh. One time I fell that stands out, I was carrying four logs, slipped and fell straight backwards onto a log I had dropped... the weight of the logs on top, shoving me down suddenly onto the log underneath...I felt like I had nearly broken my back, but I seriously doubt it got near that drastic, I just got a bruise, nothing to call home about.

Kate and Jesse camping, and logging 035

Fortunetly for me, the hill isn't very long. I stood at the top to take this picture, and the road is at the bottom, so it wasn't too bad.

Kate and Jesse camping, and logging 039

These were the average logs I had to carry down the hill. Later, I got a bright idea, and just chucked the logs down the hill, they'd stop rolling before going over the next "cliff", and I didn't have to carry so much.

Kate and Jesse camping, and logging 037

Then... after loading the wood onto the tractor, I took it up to our wood pile... (again, you can see where the tractor has been)

Kate and Jesse camping, and logging 040 This was what it looked like while I was bringing all of it up.

Now, it looks like this: logging 001 ...from the side...

logging 002 From the front. Stacking that took two hours.

I had some awesome fun times stacking it too. Some of those logs were huge!

logging 004 That's my hand there. My hand, from thumb to Little Finger, has a spread of 8-10 inches. And my hand isn't near to the side which makes it harder to realize the size of this log, but I'd guess the diameter was a good foot and a half. It wouldn't be so bad if it was dryer, but all this wood was very green, so it was pretty heavy.

All in all, I had fun this past week. Oh yeah, I got a truck too! Heh heh, I like it.

Y'all will never guess what happened today. At about 5:45 or so, I was about to start digging a hole for a rose bush, when, a sound like a screech owl came from the bottom of the South lawn. I looked around the corner of the hosue, and to my wondering eyes saw Penny (our dog) carrying a fawn! At first I thought it was a cat,a nd I yelled out to Penny to drop it, which she did, and then slunk toward me like she knew she did something bad, and knew she couldn't avoid it. Then, I went over to see the "cat" and I ahd a hard time seeing it too, it was lying so still in the grass, and so low down. When I realized what it really was, I softly spoke to it and very softly and gently touched it and stroked it, until I knew I could pick it up. I carried it down to near the creek and put it near some brush and tall grass, then went back to the hosue to finish my hole. When I was done, just on a whim, I went back down to the creek to see if the fawn was still down there, or if it's mother had found it. It was still there, and still calling, and just wandering around in the brush. It saw me, and turned towards me, then eventually came up to me and sort of nuzzled anything it reach of me. I felt like I was right out of "The Yearling". I carried him/her back up to the house, 'cause it looked real scrawny and scared, and I thought maybe Grandad could shed some light on the subject. He said the only thing one can really do is take it somewhere safe and leave him for his mother to find. While I was there talking to Grandad, Grandma came out, and Liz, and George, and later Mom, and they all said we shoudl take some pictures, so here they are.

See how small he is? That's my hand right there, and he's only about three times the size!

the deer 001

He was so scared he practically stuck his nose in the ground!

the deer 004

He's quite the little Bambi.

the deer 008

He was alright, just scared like crazy.

the deer 006

I put him back down by the creek so his mother can find him. So, a busy day, filled with yardwork and kidnapped deer.

Alright, I have had several suggestions on a post, so I'm doing it.

We have an incredably large expanse of lawns and yards, so I'm, going to show y'all some of it. This first picture is just on the side of the driveway coming up, looking toward the northeast. You can see some trees and a bit of the house in this one.

pictures of the lawns and stuff

In this one, the shot shows a little more of the house, and a tad of the lawn on the south of the driveway. (South is to the right, North is left, East is forward, and West is behind)

pictures of the lawns and stuff

This is almost the entirety of the South lawn, but not quite. This does however, show the entire lower South lawn.

pictures of the lawns and stuff

Some newly planted trees next to the field, this is still the South lawns.

pictures of the lawns and stuff

This is the lower North lawn, looking almost directly North, if you could se up the hill a little, you'd see the house.

pictures of the lawns and stuff

See?

pictures of the lawns and stuff

And then a little more. you can see the South side of the house, the fence that Luke (my future brother in-law) and I built, the shop, and the top of the barn in the very back there.

pictures of the lawns and stuff

Now you can see more of the South lawn, but still not quite all of it.    Yeah, it's big.

pictures of the lawns and stuff

This one shows the entire uper South lawn, but it's a little dark. (I steped out into the sun to take this)

pictures of the lawns and stuff

And now a break from the South lawn for a while. This is the South side yard that runs next to the house.

pictures of the lawns and stuff

This shot is looking North, I was standing on the corner of the South side yard.

pictures of the lawns and stuff

And then I stood by the corner of the suburban...

pictures of the lawns and stuff

And this is right next to the Northwest corner of the house, looking East. (see all that lawn below?)

pictures of the lawns and stuff

And even more grass to mow... And y'all can see the yard between that white building and the wooden structure right?

pictures of the lawns and stuff

Yeah, all that combined is a heck of a lot of land to mow, expecially if you have a tiny little push-mower. Whic is why, I am SOOOO thankful for this beauty!

pictures of the lawns and stuff

This thing is the all-terain-vehicle of lawn mowers. It will go anywhere you can walk, while mowing, and even pulling you if oyu fall over. Have any of y'all every tried to hold back a horse? Have any of y'all tried to hold back fifteen?

pictures of the lawns and stuff

You heard right, this engine has fifteen horses backing it. I absolutely L-O-V-E my mower!
