Going Indie

Title: Two Violinists
Written by: Weien Wang
Performed by: The Free Lances (feat. Zephyr Vladismar)
Click to listen (2.23mb mp3)

Violinistic puns/theme inspired by Carley Anderson
Melodic motif inspired by "I Won't Say" from Disney's Hercules
--------------------------------------------

She eyed the mirror
Tomorrow she would turn twelve
Not thinking clear
She swabbed her lips with peg salve
Her mind was full of violins

He lay awake
His CD looping Mozart
Until daybreak
And a bright-morning head start
His mind was full of violins

Cause more than music happens violinistically

For outerwear
A blue and beige concerto
And in her hair
A pretty violin bow
Her mind was full of violins

Fixed his lapel
And checked his tie one last time
Then rang the bell
To hear a Brandenburg chime
His mind was full of violins

Cause more than music happens violinistically

She gave the A
He sounded all strings attached
They interplayed
Making a harmony match
Their minds were full of violins

From once upon
A time they started to play
A marathon
The music con amore
Their minds were full of violins

Cause more than music happens violinistically

The cake she chose
Was a new birthday rosin
Which fed their bows
Steadfastly through thick and thin
Their minds were full of violins

At last the friends
Packed up and said their goodbyes
Two young bookends
Who'd formed a musical tie
Their minds were full of violins
His mind was full of a violinist
Her mind was full of a violinist

I've spent longer than I'll admit trying to find an adjective that would properly describe my view of this piece...ahwell, listening to the MP3 a couple of times or so has at least allowed me to choose my favorite parts, properly categorized:

Poetically:
•The general feeling of focused distractedness (i.e., being so focused on a goal or idea that the other things [such as living] get put aside or done half-heartedly) that I get from this poem is really neat; though I'm not sure that was what you were trying to convey...possibly instead just an obsession with violin/music in general, possibly?
•"He lay awake/His CD looping Mozart": Perhaps I'm not the only one who's last waking thoughts are, "Opps, forgot to turn of the music..." and then proceed with loudly dropping the earphones on the floor? Hahah...
•They interplayed/Making a harmony match": The feeling one gets from playing with someone else who perfectly understands the musical inclinations of the other and both perfectly, uh, interplay.
•The music con amore": I never had considered using other languages in my poetic vocabulary. I may have to consider it sometime [though my current venacular is so limited I'm sure I wouldn't come up with much...*sigh* Must. Have. More. Diligence.]
•Which fed their bows/Steadfastly through thick and thin": Ah, neat. I never thought of the rosin "feeding" the bows before...very awesome word-picture here.

MP3ishly:
•The "background vocal" really adds emphasis and character at the respective places within the piece; I think I'll always be a second violinist at heart 'cause I love harmony so much...
•And I love the aural reiteration of the storyline created by the violin descant/duet.
•Total favorite part probably would have to be the last one-line chorus thing, likely because of the stuff mentioned in the first point in this list.

Sum up: Awesome piece of art. From now on your faithful readers will be expecting corresponding MP3's...and pretty soon you won't be "going indie" anymore because some label will want to pick you up and start selling the stuff.

*scrolls up* Opps. Rather long. O_O But you know, long poems call for long comments. And before this gets any longer... *click*

Hey, thanks for your reply! And thanks for the humorous advice on giving out water! I think I'll leave that up to God for the time being, but in a few years I'll definitely keep that comment in mind!
