    My Midweek Musings

Hi there. It's me, Tera. I'm sitting at the computer tonight at a little after 10. Honey is in bed as is everybody else except teen (night owl) Devin. My problem isn't what to write - it's what "not to". Life, as usual, is fun and interesting. Let's see.....

    CAT

Yesterday we had a new little kitten join the Wolf Pack. He is a sweet little tabby who was bottle fed because his momma was very sick. He is a lover! His name is Chumlee. Our 5-yr-old Onnalee is thrilled that Chumlee (named by the family who had him) has a LEE in his name like her. She has been running around the house chanting, "Onnalee bummalee has a Chum-a-lee." So, now we have 6 kiddos, 2 dogs (Daisy May & grandpa's dog Sam who is semi-permanently visiting), 2 cats (our outside kitty "mouser" Licorice and now Chumlee - who will live inside), 2 parakeets (Paige and Bluey), and one leopard gecko (Geiko, of course). No.....we do not have an ark. ;0)

    GARDEN

Anyone who has ever been to my house knows that I love to garden. Plus, my garden is clearly visible from the road. So, we try to keep it thriving and beautiful! This morning I was able to play in the dirt! My sweet hubby bought me several vegetable plants, leaving them on my planting table. When I went out to water this morning I was so thrilled. I had already planted MANY veggies from seed, herbs, and even some raspberries, blackberries, and strawberries. But, honey didn't think we had enough bell peppers, eggplant, or hot peppers for salsa. He also bought me some cantaloupes and watermelon. They are planted and growing in the sun. YUM!

    CROCHET

Two weeks ago I learned to crochet - now I'm HOOKED, literally. Odette is a "leftie" and worked long and hard to learn to crochet. It was hard finding someone who knew how to teach a left-handed crocheter. Anyway, she has always wanted to make beautiful scarves, etc. so when we were invited to go to a FREE crochet class I decided to try to learn too. We are both making cotton shawls for the lil girls. I am making a purple shawl for Olivia (is there any other color in Olivia's world?) while Odette is making a pink shawl for Onnalee. Our next project will be to make Cranberry-colored alpaca wool shawls for all four of us girls for Christmas. Won't that be pretty? I think so.

I'm tired....... Good night. Thanks for reading a little of what's going on in my life this week. God bless you.

  • Pay Attention, Tera!

    Hi again.

I took 11-year-old Odette with me to our local Costco this afternoon. We had a lovely time getting what we needed and snacking on samples. As we walked out the exit and headed for the parking lot it suddenly occurred to me that EVERYONE was standing still looking at something. What? Oh, my! Just about 20 feet away from us was a woman who was yelling and waving a knife at the Costco security guard. Apparently, we stumbled upon a robbery. The woman along with her male companion robbed Costco and then fled the store with stolen property. The security guards were trying to apprehend the pair when they began waving and threatening the guards with knives (LARGE ones). My poor daughter is so traumatized!!! I re-learned a valuable lesson today. Pay attention, Tera! Thankfully, no one was hurt. The pair did "get away"; however, several police were in pursuit. I feel fairly certain they will be apprehended. I'm just thankful for God's providential protection, and I'm also thankful she did not have a gun and that she did not use her knife. Okay..........Pay Attention!

  • "I can't reach it. Get it for me, Drew."

The sweetest thing happened tonight. Our 13-year-old Drew was holding our just barely 2-year-old "baby" Dylan out in the yard tonight. With clarity of thought and words, Dylan looked up at the crescent moon and said, "I can't reach it. Get it for me,  Drew." (We talk a lot in our family - so our 2-year-olds do use complete sentences.)

Drew ran to tell me. I just melted. Dylan wanted the moon and actually thought Drew could get it for him. This is the beauty found in a large family. Drew adores Dylan who adores Drew. MMMM Good!

  • A Little Cry

Well, I knew it was coming. I just wasn't sure when it would arrive. You see, I've been running around for several days in the "doing" mode. I pressed clothes, bought shoes (our home owns 16 feet of the human variety!), and I have been cooking up a storm in preparation for my grandfather's funeral that was held yesterday. I really thought it would happen yesterday....but NOPE. I did get misty at the burial, especially when the children dropped roses into the vault (or whatever you call it - the shaft where they had lowered his coffin). I purposely gave myself permission to just do anything/nothing today. However, children must be fed, and the laundry must be done. So, I ended up "doing" more today than I planned. The dirty floor made me mop it. The lack of bath towels (clean ones, that is) forced me to wash, dry, fold, and put some away for Saturday night showers. After all, 3 of our guys went fishing today (stinky!) So.......I got through the day. I started my own blog, too. Then, I went to my room, and IT happened. I had a little cry. No box-of-tissues cry. It was just a little cry. I feel better. I miss my Papa Paul. I'm sad for my Grandma, his bride of nearly 61 years. I'm certain now that time really does fly. Soon, it will be Kevin and me.Well, maybe not soon....but it will happen. Thankfully, the end is just the beginning. God is good. Heaven will be a wonderful place. But, not yet. Anyway, I'm glad the kiddos are all tucked in bed now. My eyes keep leaking a little. I may have just a little more cry in me.

    G'night.

    Tera
