Post 236: The Gift of Leadership

Welcome back friends.  The sixteenth gift of the Spirit that I'll be talking about is the gift of Leadership.  (notice that this is not the same as Administration.  They are often given in tandem but not always.)  (From the book: "Network" by Zondervan)

Leadership

Literal Meaning:  To stand before.

Description:  The gift of Leadership is the divine enablement to cast vision, motivate, and direct people to harmoniously accomplish the purposes of God.

Distinctives

1. Provide direction for God's people or ministry.

2. Motivate others to perform to the best of their abilities.

3. Present the "big picture" for others to see.

4. Model the values of the ministry.

5. Take responsibility and establish goals.

Traits: Influential, Diligent, Visionary, Trustworthy, Persuasive, Motivating, and a Goal Setter.

Cautions:

1.  Should realize their relational credibility takes time and is critical for leadership effectiveness.

2.  Should remember that servant leadership is the biblical model, the greatest being the servant of all.

3.  Do not need to be in a leadership "position" to use this gift.

References:  Romans 12:8, Hebrews 13:17, Luke 22:25-26

If this sounds like you then the only way to know for sure is to ask God to give you opportunities or ministries that require the use of this gift.  A Leader may have issues with not seeing themselves as gifted because their gift is "less supernatural".  We all must remember that God is smart enough to make sure all of our gifts have a place and a purpose.  All of our gifts are selected by Him and they are the ones that suit us best.  We should be respectful of that.

We should be respectful of our leaders and authority figures. However, self-respect comes from within us. :)

Well, now I know why no one follows me at church. lol I thought it was because I did not have any good ideas.

I hope you and wife had a nice Dad's Day. I was kind of lonely. The wife has been gone two weeks, and Pam could not drive up from Los Angeles. So I chose to feel sorry for myself. lol I am so pathetic.

I love your jumping in on the scripture that I use.  I hope my wonderful Xanga family reads your excellent teaching. I have some very strong Christians attending my site--why, I have no idea. Anyway they keep the pressure on me not to get to trashy in my commets. I  think I am doing better, but I hope I get them down to the scripture by my sharing my real life--how I feel and think and what I do. I firmly believe that if anyone reads God's Word, the Holy Spirit will use the Word.

I am in a real dry spell spiritually now. I need to snap out of it. I guess when Norma gets back will do our devotions together again. I am lousy by myself.

Have a great week Alex.

Blessings

frank
